I've worked with the wake and bake crowd, they aren't reliable, don't want nothing to do with them. Other than that, well, I can't get over that.

A letter to weed about my dad

Dear Weed,

Holy sh*t, dude. Holy sh*t. Holy sh*t, you know? I mean... wow. Damn. Damn!

So you know what I'm talking about right? Right? That f*cking letter.. this LETTER. I'm reading this thing.. and I'm like.. "Oooooooo SH*T!" Haha! Hahaha! You know? Yeah!

YEAH. F*cking exactly, man. Yeah! That's PRECISELY what I'm talking about. You're like a f*cking GENIUS and sh*t. You should teach. Be a teacher. Teach the world. Have you ever wanted to teach? You could teach. People would call you Teach.

Teach.

I like that.

Teach.

You know, and I know you know this- I KNOW that you KNOW this; I know it, I'm going to say it anyway, because seriously.

Damn.

You LOOK like a "Teach."

It suits you.

Look at you. Look at how much you look like a "Teach." I'm just.. holy sh*t.

I'm going to call you Teach now.

Haha! You're TEACH now! That's awesome. You're teach now.

Hey. Hey. You're Teach now.

Love,

Rebbecca.

On the subject of weed, my parents said to me "I don't care what you do just don't end up a bum or break the law". I was just a visitor, though i still enjoy it nowadays a few times a year.

y'know what our problem is? with the war on drugs I mean. Our problem is that we don't treat addiction as an illness. For some reason, our society ignores addiction. Our society assumes that if someone is addicted, then they're weak. And we despise weakness, so we punish them when we find out about it. we create the cycle of shame, drug abuse, prison and more drug abuse and then we blame the addict for the whole thing.

addiction isn't a moral weakness. it's a valid, measurable biochemical condition. it's no different than any other disease, and just as treatable. I'm not excusing crimes committed under the influence of drugs mind you...but what I am saying is that we need to treat addicts for their addiction. locking up addicts only means that when they come out of prison...they're still addicts. you don't lock up a cancer patient and expect them to not have cancer when they get out of jail.

*sigh*

sorry. it's late and the whole 'war on drugs' thing just pisses me off. especially our hypocrisy when it comes to drugs.

I have been a wake and bake for forty years...Never miss a day of work...Pay my taxes...Deal with a bunch of dumb farks every day who want to push their ignorant bullshiat onto others...Have car insurance...Toke while driving...That has been always, and fill up the bowl, will always be...Don't care if the boss suspects me of being high...He has had his differences with me, but...Am in the top 5% of the food servers of the USA!..Dealt with my fair share of crap throughout...Home paid for...Photoshop for the Fark of it...Am in a state with medical marijuana, but have never been to a doctor so can't prove no ailments, but smoke it just the same.
There are a lot of STONERS who actually provide sunshine in life. I play with and treat others with respect whether or not
they are smoking a bowl with me by the dumpster, although I get a bit frustrated when one tells me they would vote for Sarah Palin to run our country. smoke on.........

I have no problem with this article, save for the following line:

They smoke all the time - they may even "wake an bake" which means smoking first thing in the morning instead of coffee.

...to which I call bullshiat. Coffee is a neccesary part of the wake-n-bake. Almost as much as the pot itself.

My only issue with the article is when he's listing off various names for pot and he lists 'spliff'. That's not slang for pot, it's what they call joints over in the UK. He might as well have gone full Michael Scott and put hookah on the list too.

Is it just me or did the whole article come off as "I used to smoke pot and I turned out fine, but if you smoke it I will ruin your life because there's a small chance it'll lead you to becoming a PCP-addled crack whore?"

It is a plant. It has been on Earth for eons. Now, in this small window of time in human history, some people have decided that you can't even posses this plant.

It is no different than a rose or a sunflower, or even a spot of crab grass. Except this one is illegal.

It is only illegal because some authoritarians have said it is. These same authoritarians have said that the tobacco plant is OK, and it is OK to ferment plants to make a toxic poison known as alcohol.

But you can't have this plant. If it grew on your property you could lose everything including your freedom.

The Founding Fathers would be pissed. One of them particularly so.

Actually I believe a spliff needs tobacco added in order to earn the term, otherwise it is just a joint.

Generalizations are useless; yes there are wake and bakes that are reliable and run their own business. But, anyone can ruin their life by overindulging in an intoxicant and then making poor life decisions. I have a family member who is in his early 30s and smokes every day. He works as a clerk in a DvD store and has held that job for over ten years. Some will find this funny, cue the clerks references, but it hurts me to see him just float in the nothingness. I can't even tell his mom what the problem is, because I'll lose his trust. And so it goes, I love him though.

I got more of a "you never know if you may become hardcore, but if you do, don't be afraid to tell me about it, I can probably help" vibe.

But then again, I just burned one after I walked my dog for 45 mins at 6am this morning.

I know Washington made 140 proof rye whiskey, but for the life of me I can't recall if it was Jefferson or GW that grew the Hemp.

I do remember that it was industrial hemp though, not the smokable. Somehow, even that is illegal.

It's just you and your weed-induced paranoia. The whole article came off as "Watch out who you hang out with" which is pretty much stellar, if not obvious, advice.

Shakespeare's Monkey: He works as a clerk in a DvD store and has held that job for over ten years.

Is he happy? Weed might be sapping his motivation to get something new, but maybe the amount of motivation he has is miniscule to begin with.

Not everyone has the desire to fight the current their whole life to make a few extra bucks, some people let the current take em. You'll usually be able to pick those people out in a crowd because they'll be smiling, and they'll have all their hair.

Perhaps he's happy living simply and has no desire for the wealth-driven lifestyle pushed on us from birth.

Or he's just a lazy burnout. Pick one. On the plus side, he's responsible enough to maintain steady employment for a decade.

spliff is actually the name of one of my favorite bands from germany that was way popular in the early '80s. i've always wondered when it became slang for a doobie.

I don't smoke, I don't drink... I agree with the article. I think it's ridiculous how much pot is maligned while drinking alcohol is treated as some sort of vaunted state. From my observations, alcohol seems the far worse of the two.

But having said that, I really have no patience for people who paint pot-smoking as some sort of evolved virtue. Look, you smoke a foreign substance, it makes you feel good for accomplishing nothing. It's really nothing to be proud of. But as long as you don't hurt anyone with your vice, I'm cool with it.

2010-03-11 07:04:38 AM
That pretty much sums up the weed smokers I know.

Personally I began as a 'Visitor', graduated to 'regular' for three years in my twenties, became a 'Stoner' for about a year, then moved away from home. I mean to a new, strange, expensive city.

At that point I was worried about things like rent and bills. The folks weren't paying for anything and calling for money wasn't an option. Plus I had no idea where to get some weed.

After that, I regressed to 'Visitor', where I remain today.

Don't look for it, don't buy it. If someone slips me a joint, I might take it and smoke it by myself, four months later.

/not hating on weed smokers
//just sayin'

It is not a plant. It is a weed. However, your high-school "Dazed and Confused" logic is not lost on us.

Comparing hemp as a fabric to marijuana as a smoking agent, is like saying your poppy seed bagel is a reason for opium to be legal.

It sounds like you're the one who wants / needs him to do more. Sounds like your problem, not his. Let him have his life, such as it is. Steady employment in a seemingly menial position is not 'poor life choices' for many people.
