This game reminded me of the Barton game, where Anthony Atkinson scored 10 points in the last 40 seconds or some such, and brought the team back to win a game at the very end.

Only this comeback took a lot longer.

Montana comes back from a 20 point second FIRST half defecit to win an NCAA tournament appearance. Bonus: Montana player breaks Big Sky Tournament records for points in a game

If they came back during a 20 point deficit in the second half, there is no game, it's already over, subby.

Uh, what?

FTFA: Montana played probably its worst half of basketball this season before intermission, trailing by 22 at one point and 40-20 at the break. Shooting 28 percent from the floor with 14 turnovers, there was no reason to expect what transpired next.

Congrats to the Grizzlies. Now onto the Big Dance where they will hopefully administer the first round smackdown of Syracuse. Go Nova!

You should only do that when Vandy is down 20 at half, or up 10 with 12:00 to play against South Carolina, at home, on Senior day.

Last time the Griz were in the tournament they were a 12, beat heavily favored Nevada, and gave Boston College a run for their money in the 2nd round.

That said, I hope we (Vandy) plays them and beats them by 30.

Yeah, don't always count out the ol' Big Sky. I remember Idaho State beating a #2 (national rank) UCLA in the second round back when they were one of the perineal powers.

Are they likely to end up in the real tournament, or is there a good chance they'll get shunted off to the play-in game?

The PIG is always the SWAC or MEAC champion (whichever one is worse) and the next-worse team, usually the NEC or Atlantic Sun champion or if a team with a losing record gets lucky and wins their tournament. Montana's a good team, they're 22-9.

Incidentally, the PIG would be the SWAC vs MEAC champion every year if they didn't have the gentleman's agreement to not put the two black schools against each other in the PIG.

ETSU with a 20-14
Winthrop with a 19-13
Robert Morris with a 23-11
Montana with a 22-9
North Texas with a 24-8
ODU with a 25-8
Wofford with a 25-8
Oakland with a 26-8
Siena with a 26-6
St. Mary's with a 25-5
Cornell with a 27-4
Northern Iowa with a 28-4
Murray State with a 30-4

i think Montana is safe from the play in game, there will a few teams with even worse records that ETSU, Winthrop and Robert Morris.

kevinatilusa: Are they likely to end up in the real tournament, or is there a good chance they'll get shunted off to the play-in game?

Any number of reasons the answer is no:

-At least one will be the SWAC team (none of the remaining teams have more than 16 wins), and it's possible the MEAC (2nd-worst in the RPI, ahead of the SWAC) will be the other if 17-12 Delaware State gets in. The two conferences have sent teams to the play in game every year except the first.

-Big Sky is 19th out of 31st conference-wise in the RPI, though the team's RPI sucks.

-So far, at least two teams - 23-11 Robert Morris (NEC is 29th) and 19-13 Winthrop (BSC is 27th) - have more losses, and are in worse conferences. Winthrop also has a much worse RPI as well (251st).

I'd go with a 15 for Montana, if I had to venture a guess.

Finding out which teams will lose in the first round of the tournament by thirty points is so exciting!
