Welcome to Farktography!
This Week's Theme: "I'm a Geek, and I'm Proud of It."
Description
: Everyone's a geek in their own right. Take photographs that display the awesome power of your geekiness.
We ask that before submitting your photos you read and adhere to the following submission
rules
, including but
not
limited to the following:
- Submissions must be photographs; screen captures do not count as photographs.
- You must be the original photographer of your entry. Do not submit anyone else's photography as your own.
- You are only allowed to enter a photograph once. Do not submit the same photo to another contest later.
- You may enter 3 photos in each contest as long as each photo is of a different composition.
- Please post each photo separately so they can be voted for individually.
Ideally, your photograph should be presented as taken, with as little alteration as possible either digitally in-camera or in your image editor during post-processing. No selectively applied digital effects! No removal or addition of image elements, no spot treatments, and no HDR images, please.
With few exceptions (red-eye removal, sensor or scan dust removal), modifications to the original photograph must be made evenly across the image.
See the
rules
for more information on acceptable modifications, or check in at the
Farktography Forums
.
Legal:
All photographers submitting photos to this contest are the legal copyright holders for the photos submitted and the photos are not to be considered free for any other use without written consent from the submitting photographers.
To have your photo website listed on the Farktography home page, please send your Fark username and url to admin(at)farktography.net and we'll get you up forthwith. (also, indicate if you're willing to share your photographs for use as source images in PhotoShop contests)

A geek might recognize this as the basis for some of the lightsaber props in Star Wars
but a camera geek should recognize a Graflex 3 cell flash unit.

Yeah, I'm a train geek.
I took this photo sometime in 1983, after an all-nighter painting the locomotive with my pal Mark, seen there in the red cap. I did the white striping and the lettering, he did the rest.

Old-Skool geekery
My office at IBM Cherry Hill, NJ, circa 1989-90. Note the state-of-the-art equipment - the Toshiba 320x480 monochrome lappy with *two* floppy disk drives, the IBM PS/2 model 80 with a rare (working) 8513 monitor, and the *color* 3271 mainframe terminal. Note also that the internets ran in
square

"365 Days"
I did a self-portrait 365 Days project last year, and at the end of the year I looked at all my photos for common themes. This is what I came up with: A Brit-Lit reading, latte drinking, dark chocolate and whipped cream addicted, tequila swilling, belly dancing, digital and film photographer.

"Full Frontal Photo Nerdity"
I like to shoot digital photos through the viewfinders of antique twin lens reflex cameras for fun vintage photo justice. Last year I got this 30+ year old 12.5 pound large format camera at a yard sale for $10. I rigged up a light shade for it out of the box my tripod came in and started taking pictures with the camera either on the ground or on my tripod. But I wanted better portability. I still had some baby slings that I never got rid of after the kids outgrew them, and I figured the camera weighed about as much as a baby. Et voila!

Hi, my name is Ranger Joe, and I'm a modelholic. This is a 1/35th scale M-1126 Stryker Infantry Combat Vehicle with photo etched metal anti-RPG slat armor. This is probably the nicest model I've ever built, and without a doubt the most expensive. All in all, I have a collection of over 100 tank and military vehicle models.

In the course of building that many tank models, I've amassed quite a collection of extra parts as well. Most of them live in small plastic drawers, guarded by King Kong. Don't ask what's under the loincloth (let's just say I build very detailed models).
