"I don't think it's appropriate. It's a public space and people should not be able to go in and do what they want to do,"

I've got good money that says someone's house is about to get knitted

As a local, I think this should be like the guy who puts roses on Edgar Allan Poe's grave. Don't try to solve the mystery, just enjoy it.

This is not a new thing. Guerrilla knitters have been at it for a while. Know a chick that put an obnoxiously bright knit cozy on a metal knob because someone whacked their leg on it.

Isn't that exactly what public spaces are for? So people can go in and do what they want to do?

2010-03-10 09:05:38 PM
How long would that take to make, a six-foot knit tube around a light-pole?

Is it an entertaining lark or a freaky obsession?

"I think they're actually going out and knitting in the middle of the night. That's weird and that's why people like it," Flanegan said.

I doubt they're actually knitting at the park. That would Speed Knitting.

Oh, I love yarnbombing! I've been considering doing it around the hood but my knittas don't understand why I'd want to.

I love the bus cozy on what used to be knittaplease.

One neighbor, Mark Lukas, who has a house across the street but also lives in New York City, disapproves. He said Christo's "The Gates" was amazing but noted it was "appropriate and approved." Lukas said the Shade Tree Commission should step in as the tree cozies hurt the charm and authenticity of a borough with old Victorian homes.

"I don't think it's appropriate. It's a public space and people should not be able to go in and do what they want to do," Lukas said.

FOAD, asshole. You don't get a voice until you live there full-time. Don't like it? Go back to Central Park where the local "artists" just piss all over the trees.

/Fothermuckin' pompous-ass New Yorkers tellin' everybody what to do in the town they only go to because they think it's so quaint and rustic **mumblegrumble**

Too bad I live in the Midwest.
Step 1: Organize knitting party for college-age yarnbombers.
Step 2: Collectively knit house-sized cozy.
Step 3: ???
Step 4: Profit?

Unless they're knitting trip lines, I don't see what the problem is.

sew what?

2010-03-10 09:58:45 PM
The only thing that I'd get slightly worried about is whether or not the cozies get removed in a timely fashion. Sure, they're bright and cheery now, but 3 months of rain and sun and Cape May salt water spunk and those things will be worse than college dorm bath mats.

She could have dropped her stitches.
