Suck it, Detroit. Suck. It.

No excuse last night for Motown. You had your roster, you had the calls and you still lost.

There's few teams in the league I love beating more than Detroit.

do people in windsor root for the wings or the leafs?

The Wings will get the #8 seed and knock the Sharks out in 6 games. Book it. Done.

J.Garcia'sRightMiddleFinger: do people in windsor root for the wings or the leafs?

My dad's family (who're in Windsor) roots for whomever sucks the least at that particular moment.

So... Wings, yeah.

Also, Chelios just got called up by the Thrashers.

Also, no suspension for Cooke, but the GMs have come up with a new rule for penalizing "blindside hits to the head", with a possible minor or major penalty being called.

Yeah, we're starting to get to the point where our defense just isn't as sturdy as it was in years past, and it's exposing Jimmy and Ozzie as slightly above-average goaltenders, nothing more. But give everyone a chance to return from their injuries and start working together, and there'll be improvements. Especially now that Babcock doesn't have to worry about the Olympics. I don't think there will be a Cup Finals in the cards this year, but we should still make the playoffs and keep the streak intact.

Possible, and, I hope, true, but it's a bit early to do any dancing.

According to Sports Club Stats, Detroit's odds of making the playoffs are an even 50%.

I still find it hard to imagine that they'll miss, when all is said and done.

What, no "Cool" tag? Or even "Amusing"? How about "Obvious" or "Fail"?

Wings have had a near-20-year run of being good. Time to take a couple years off and recharge the team. In the meantime, lets enjoy some other teams that aren't having to use Hoverounds between games.

I submitted the obligatory Hoveround headline about the Thrashers and Chelios earlier today. I'm sure it was redlit.

Methinks the Wings shouldn't be counted out yet. They certainly aren't going all the way this year, but I think they'll make it into the postseason.

And as an Oilers fan, I am eagerly awaiting the 2018 playoffs.

A friend of mine, after every Wings loss, goes "We're doomed! No playoffs! Oh no!"

It's silly. They'll probably get in.

2010-03-10 03:04:38 PM
I've been saying it all year: The injuries certainly haven't helped, but the Wings just look plain tired. They've looked a step slow since Game 1 in Sweden.

They've been to at least the Conference Finals the last four years. There are players on this team who have averaged around 100 games a year for their entire careers.

Would I like to see them make the playoffs? Absolutely. Do I think it might just be best in the long run if they didn't? Quite possibly.

I know that's probably not the weeping and gnashing of teeth Wings haters want to hear, but it's true. It's been a good run. It's time to step away for a season and re-charge the batteries. They've got a sh*tload of money coming off the books after this season, a great farm system, and arguably 3 of the Top 10 forwards in the game in the prime of their careers.

They deserve a summer off.

Your team is only 6 points ahead of the Wings, FightDirector.

Good game last night.

In fairness, I think a lot of "Wing haters" really just hate Wing fans, which, as a Wings fan, I admit is entirely understandable and well-deserved.

I love how articles separate every sentence into its own paragraph.

Then double spaces the paragraph.

It makes everything that much more readable.

Plus, you don't have to think about paragraph structure anymore.

The sentence structure defines the paragraph.

There doesn't have to be a topic sentence.

No supporting statements have to exist at all.

And concluding sentences can go away entirely.

It used to be that paragraphs help enforce good communication by structuring the thoughts and arguments of the author.

Without them, people can just ramble on.

The ideas can be out of order.

Dependencies can precede their antecedents.

It's a very easy way to shiat out a column without having to think.

And people wonder why the "professional" press is going tits-up in this country.

I'm in MA and only get to see the Bruins play the Wings occasionally... never been to the Garden when the Wings are in town, so I've never really experienced Wings fans in person.

Why are they hated?

I hear the same thing about Leafs fans, but honestly, I've had a blast with the Leafs fans I've met at the Garden and before and after the game at Sullivans.

The only fans I've ever had any kind of negative interaction with are Habs fans, honestly (which is a given, I guess)...

The Wings were the last team to ever play my beloved Jets and took them out of the playoffs. I decided to hate them for years because of that.

In the past few years though, I've learned to love watching them play. The playoffs won't be the same without Zetterberg and Datsyuk dancing around everyone, and Franzen all of a sudden becoming the world's greatest goal scorer.

2010-03-10 03:27:01 PM
I'm not sure what would be better. Having the Pens beat the Wings in the finals again, having the Wings go on a tear, finish first and lose in the first round or have them miss the playoffs completely.

I remember that series. If it's any consolation, I hated (and still hate) the fact that Winnipeg moved to some city in the Southwest (I can't quite remember where...)

I am a Wings fan, and we have enjoyed a nice run of seasons going back to the days of Steve Yzerman as a young lad. I understand people hating the Wings the same way I hate the Yankees. That being said, and this only being directed in one place.....

Blackhawk fan, STFU. Are there a worse group of bandwagon fans in the world? I went to more than a few Red Wings "home" games at the United Center, where there were maybe 3 or 4 thousand Blackhawk fans. You have a good team now, but I didn't here enough from you when you were bad, so STFU.

Everybody else, good luck this year, and I look forward to a wide open playoffs.

As a Sharks fan, all I ask is that the Wings either (a) go on a run and finish 6th or higher or (b) flame out and completely miss the playoffs. Do NOT finish 7th or 8th.

The Flames, Predators, or Blues are all teams that I'd love to see the Sharks face in the 1st round. A 1st round date with the Wings would be a disaster.

In the western conference, basically used GF-GA to rank
top 3: SJ, CHI, VAN
middle 3: LA, COL, PHX

bottom 3 spots up for grabs: CGY, NSH, DET

Nashville just had a big injury?
Calgary has been playing well since the break, thanks to more offence and Iginla playing well. However much of that offence comes from former Maple Leafs, and so they could slump before the season is finished
Detroit is basically a new team with a healthy lineup, they're going to be pushing hard. They have 9 home games and 7 road games left.

fun fact: The Canucks lead the league in winning games when they are trailing into the 3rd period. 10 games this season apparently.

2010-03-10 04:34:24 PM
* bottom 2 spots

I think Nashville may get pushed out

Hypothetical first round
SJ - DET
CHI - CGY
VAN - PHX
LA - COL

a lot of interesting story lines in there

let's say, 2nd round
SJ - LA
CHI - VAN

wow, could be a good year for hockey writers

Losing over 100 goals in the offseason combined with the spate of injuries to begin the season does not bode well for the Red Wings. Fortunately, it's given them some time to evaluate their young talent to determine if they fit in with future plans. It's a great streak, but it doesn't look good to keep it this year.

Keep in mind, the Wings have drafted at or near the bottom of the league for years...it was bound to catch up with them sooner or later.

I could go on an anti-Chicago rant...but really...after all those fans have been through...they deserve to have success (just as I remember the horrid Wings' teams from the 70's and early 80's).

FTFY. By the time the puck went in to the net the penalty was over.
I know, I know, no actual difference in terms of line calls, but Higgins didn't get credit for an SHG
