No way that stuff could hold up a zamboni.

Waesche said that the "thin ice" sign in the foreground of the photo was some distance away from where the Zamboni went in.

RIIIIIGHT. It's an optical illusion. I LOVE THOSE! If I stare long enough at the pic will I eventually see *FAIL* in 3D?!

It probably really was. Long enough lens shot from far enough away and that Zamboni could be 200+ yards past that sign.

A driver was grooming the lake at about 6:15 p.m., when the ice cracked and the 7,000-pound machine began to sink at about 6:15 p.m. As a precaution, skaters were cleared from another area of the 5-acre pond, at 6:15 p.m. resort spokesman Ryan Whaley said at 6:15 p.m..

If I remember right, hydraulic line leak.

Extreme_Lukewarm: wtf happened there?

The popular ice-cleaning vehicle began leaking a red fluid as it proceeded toward the center red line during a pre-game surface clearing. Jay Roberts, general manager of Mellon Arena for facility operator SMG, said the Zamboni leaked hydraulic fluid, and that engineers were slated to examine the vehicle last night. Roberts praised arena workers for their swift cleaning of the spill.

Most importantly, was it a real Zamboni or some other brand of ice resurfacer?

Pet peeve, like Kleenex and tissue paper.

Way cool! With it being 37 degrees- do they really expect the ice to freeze again? I've never skated on a natural pond before- I live in the south. It does seem like they would have a way of checking thickness prior to driving out the Zam or allowing skaters for that matter. I think I need to go to this place.

"...$3 for toddlers and senior citizens"

Charging admission for toddlers and seniors? Fail indeed.

2010-03-10 07:38:18 PM
Season passes are $59, but daily admission is $11 for adults, $9 for 12- to 17-year-olds, $7 for children and $3 for toddlers and senior citizens.

For skating or swimming?

We had just delivered shaved ice to the Atomic Sno Cone shack and were headed back. No one knew we were even on the ice that night. When the ice broke, it gave way with no warning. Ten Zamboni workers went in to that freezing water that night. She went down so quick no one even had time to call in an SOS.

Cold water's an icy foe my friend. First you lose your feet. Then your hands go. Like they's no longer there. The guys, one by one, stopped yelling. I was holding on to Mackey, I don't know how, my hands were frozen. I turned him around and I seen the cold water got 'im too. I just pushed him away.

Just when I was about to give it all up the the icy water, there comes a kid. He yells "Hey idiot. Can't you read? Thin ice! I'm getting the manager."

They hauled me out and I lost a couple of toes. The pener is a complete turtle. I'll not see him again for a long time. The manager was ticked about the Zamboni. Then, he got even madder when nine human Popsicles showed up under the ice. Really kept the skaters away. When the lake thaws in the spring, we'll fish them out. We tell the skaters they're just mannequins tossed in there from last Halloween but they know. They know.
