I didn't see where he said anything objectionable. All of it was true.

He can always hang his hat on outplaying Charlie Frye that one season.

DA's "apology" is the same kind that politicians come up with. The only thing he was sorry about was that his comment became public, as if he somehow thought sending an email to a journalist would remain private. While I think fans booing him while he was injured was a dick move, for him to basically throw every Browns' fan under the bus was as classless as they come.

DA is worse than Brady Quinn. Good luck finding a job next year with your low-ass qb rating.

As a browns fan, I disagree. I think his comments were warranted, and sadly true.
/Glad we are moving in a different direction, however.

Did you read the article? It looked to me like he owned what he said. He didn't hide behind context or claim a misquote or whatever politicians do. He said he was frustrated, said something he regretted, and apologized. What more could the guy do? Set himself on fire?

I hardly think burning that bridge to get back into Cleveland to play for their NFL team is one most players try to protect.

You can't look at a Cleveland Brown QB's numbers and say they make him good or bad...The fact that he is QB'ing for the Browns means that unless his statistics are really good (proving he is amazing), then there just isn't enough information to judge his talent on.

2010-03-10 05:03:12 PM
Now he has to make that difficult transition to the pros.

the thing of it is... i bet had he never made the initial comment, the fans would've given him a nice ovation if he returned as an opposing player. Now, they'll crucify him.

I'll say that the response would be nicer had he not made these comments. Had he kept his mouth shut and gone quietly, it's likely that nobody would have really cared if he came back for another team. However, since he chose to shame the entirety of the Cleveland Browns fanbase, it's likely he'll now be greeted with unanimous disapproval and likely more than one effigy.

CavalierEternal: since he chose to shame the entirety of the Cleveland Browns fanbase

I think they shame themselves when they cheer for any players much less their own getting injured. A Cleveland Browns football fan does not have far to fall on the ladder of shame.

A few drunken yahoos at a late-season Browns game != the entire Cleveland Browns fan base.

Also, if I were ashamed to be a Browns fan, I would cease to be a Browns fan and probably become another douchey, bandwagon-riding Steelers fan. I'm not. I wear it on my sleeve, just like my fetishes for giant women and feet.

As much as I don't associate with them, I've come to conclude that they are the prime representative of Cleveland Browns fans.

Exhibit A: Cheering when Tim Couch went down with an injury (once is an accident)
Exhibit B: Bottlegate (twice is a trend)
Exhibit C: "CHAR-LIE! CHAR-...er, BRA-DY! BRA-...er..." (what's three times, again?)

So here's the deal about Bottlegate. Real Browns fans rejoice in Bottlegate. The ref's screwed it up on the field, and the fan's let them know.

Newly minted Browns fans, who sip their red wine in section K-9, and cover their kid's ears when a profanity is uttered, were surely *strongly* disappointed at the ferocity of plastic bottles that bounced off of the people on the field. Maybe a few of those new Browns fans got a little Miller Lite on their pennyloafers and had to throw them out when they got home since they reeked of beer. My my, what a shame.

Cheering when players who are not playing up to their potential get injured? Awww, here's a band-aid for your vagina. The Browns fans used to throw batteries at players (mostly on the other side), but the occasional sharpshooter went after Gerald McNeil, the Fair Catch Specialist. These farking babies are professional athletes, and if they are being cheered when they get injured, maybe instead of getting a case of sandy-jock, they need to think about *why* everyone is so happy they are being carted off the field on the M*A*S*H wagon.

So, Cleveland fans (real ones anyway) are bastards. Live with it. We always were. In the 90's, if Chad Johnson had jumped into the dog pound, it would have taken a dozen cops to get him out, and we would have wound up on the injured reserve for a month. But again, back then, the fans in the stands didn't tolerate losers, so the team at least played average. We had rage to spare for the other teams who came to "Our House."

In summation, if you're not comfortable with this, may I suggest you follow the Indians? I hear those fans are very proper. Until the fans in the stands unite in their intolerance of mediocrity, and make the stadium threatening not only for the other team, but for any of the Browns that display massive amounts of fail, we will never be better than average. We, the fans, need to make playing football for Cleveland a priveledge by driving out everyone who uses it as a gravy train.

1990s home win pct, in your mighty threatening stadium era: .393
1990s road win pct, in your mighty threatening stadium era: .339

2000s home win pct, in your weak, sissified stadium era: .375
2000s road win pct, in your weak, sissified stadium era: .337

Yeah, being assholes was SO influential that they barely outperformed the roster of retreads.

2010-03-11 12:27:29 PM
You know the Browns didn't come into the League in 1990, right? And lets be straight here, its *your* weak sissified era, not mine. Here are my eras

80's, overall .546
70's, overall .497

Here are my father's.

60's, overall .691
50's, overall .747

So, if you aren't too sore patting yourself on the back for being only a little worse than the 90's, feel free to reflect on how *you* can help improve the Browns. Demand exceptional play from them, and in you can't bring yourself to do that, stay home, and let someone who will have your seat.

I don't give half a sh*t about the Browns. I'm pointing out that your point is stupid and has no merit. Your justification for being an asshole needs some work. Hell, just admit you like being an asshole because you're unable to cope with your own inadequacy so you take it out on others. Or hey, you just like being an asshole.

By the way, the Browns fans are the reason that they had to start using plastic bottles. The first incident was with glass bottles; hardly what I would call a "oh, get over it" situation.

Having talent in the early days got you wins, not your fans being c*nts.

I guess all the Pittsburgh fans have forgotten the fact that Bradshaw was booed mercilessly throughout much of his career in shiatsburgh. Or else they hadn't jumped on the bandwagon yet when that was happening.
