When I was a kid, we lived in New York City in a tall brick building with gargoyles on the roof. I was friends with the door man, Henry Warnimont. One day, he was opening a limo door for a heavy metal singer, and one of the gargoyles broke off the roof. It fell on Henry and crushed him. It's silly, but I've never trusted heavy metal after that. I think that singer was a demon.

That headline "joke" was nothing but a sci-fi reference that only obese British neckbeards would get. Way to stoop yourself to the level of Family Guy, Subby.

If you see one move and it tells you never to tell anyone, don't. If you do your wife will turn back into the gargoyle and kill you. Obscure?

"Blink!"

And the best news is that Stephen Moffat (sp?) has taken over as head writer for the entire new series. Can't wait to get better plots, with darker developments. And scary stuff!

Also, it can boil an egg at 30 paces, whether you want it to or not, actually, so I've learned to stay away from hens. It's not pretty when they blow.

Demon/monster/ugly person sculptures on buildings are only gargoyles if they have water spouts (gargoyle comes from the same Latin root word as gargle) otherwise they're grotesques.

Dear god save us from the Russell T. Davis "everything must be deus ex machina!!" I swear RTD has never ended a single episode with anything that had anything to do with the preceding plot.

But Steven Moffat's not immune to it either. "The Empty Child" (you you my mummy?) was GREAT as it went along, but again, the ending went deus ex machina IMHO. I mean, creepy reconstructed boy contacts his mother, and that suddenly reverses everything? Well, it kinda made sense because the nanites somehow recognized her DNA and realized the mistake in constructing gas masks for faces.

That one's better than RTD- at least it was in some way related to the plot, as opposed to the Doctor rerouting hoses on some piece of technology, throwing out some technobabble, and "a miracle occurs" which negates all the problems and turns everything back to normal. The Empty Child still ended with a miracle that didn't make a lot of sense in any intelligible way... and, of note, it "reverses" everything that happened before. That's not strictly part of the deus ex machina definition, but it often goes hand-in-hand with it.

Now Blink, The Girl in the Fireplace... no deus ex machina at all. Silence in the Library was problematic in the ending in that somehow her soul was saved in an intercom?? Didn't make a lot of sense. But, notably, at least it didn't outright reverse all the casualties and bring everything back to Square 1 like the whole thing never happened.

THE WEEPING ANGELS ARE COMING BACK. Moffat's up for a two-parter "The Time of Angels" / "Flesh and Stone" based on them.

great. now i have to go home tonight & start watching Doctor Who from the beginning again. Or at least from season 2. it's sad that i crush on a fictional character so hard. (but at least he's a badass & not sparkly vampire.)
