this is the 1st part of the unedited interview.
part 2 is here.

2010-03-10 09:35:01 AM
These discussions anger me because one party (Theissen, in this case) is simply not at all understanding what the other is saying. He keeps arguing in favor of his opinion, and Stewart is simply saying "yes but do you agree that it's just an opinion?".

How dumb can you be?

I Said: How dumb can you be?

I suspect you'll get some excellent examples here in a few minutes.

Marc Thiessen is just a vile human being. I don't know what else to say. I don't even know why he's given a platform.

Fritz Thyssen was in league with Prescott Bush and Harriman in backing the nazis.

But I dunno if there's any connection. The names are spelled differently. but that's not a confirmation either way.

"but that's not a confirmation either way."

Thanks, the similarity of the names just caught my attention.

Here's what I took away from watching that interview last night:

Marc Thiessen: GIVE ME TIME TO SPEAK LET ME SPEAK I WANT TO SPEAK YOU'RE NOT LETTING ME SPEAK.

Jon Stewart: *gives Marc time to repeat his same contradictory talking points*

Marc Thiessen: *continues repeating talking points*

Jon Stewart: Ok, I'd like to interrupt for a minute to ask a question...

MARC THIESSEN: YOU'RE TALKING OVER ME YOU'RE NOT LETTING ME SPEAK LET ME SPEAK.

Amazing stuff.

They understand completely. They're not stupid, they're just assholes.

I just want to repost this, since it should be plastered everywhere. This is the Convention against Torture, a treaty Reagan himself signed and championed:

No exceptional circumstances whatsoever, whether a state of war or a threat or war, internal political instability or any other public emergency, may be invoked as a justification of torture.

The next time *anyone* tries to defend the use of torture under any circumstances, you need to remind them that we have explicitly signed treaties which specifically say torture is literally unjustifiable. The moment you allow any justification, you are completely undermining the entire point of banning it.

TORTURE IS ONE OF THOSE THINGS WE WOULD RATHER DIE THAN COMMIT
. People who forget this are cowards of the highest and most despicable order.

2010-03-10 10:14:30 AM
This asshole is amazing. "You attack people who demonize a lawyer. Isn't it hypocritical to then attack someone and demonize a lawyer yourself?" "No, it isn't."

Jesus, what a cock. How did Stewart stop himself from just punching this asshole in the face?

I haven't seen the whole interview yet (no speakers at work), but what I saw last night on the show was pathetic. The guy sat there and tried to talk over Stewart almost constantly, and all the while complaining that Stewart wasn't letting him talk. Did it get any better than that afterward? It was hard to watch.

I think perhaps Stewart could've let him blubber a bit more and kept his mouth shut slightly, but this guy wouldn't even let Stewart get in his comments without trying to talk over him anyway.

2010-03-10 10:57:53 AM
Ugh. And then on top of it, to sit there whining that he got talked over, pouting, shaking his head and throwing up his hands when Stewart went to commercial? What a greasy little cock-wad. Stewart gave him WAY more respect than he deserved, there...especially towards the end.

Besides, it's the goddamned "Daily Show." Did he expect he'd just be able to show up and spew GOP pro-torture propaganda without being challenged on his pseudo-facts? What an über-douche.

I don't understand why the media doesn't actually go out and hire some real journalists.

Don't they understand that if they actually produced more news than the cable comedy shows they would get a large chunk of the viewership that are desperate for critical information?

2010-03-10 11:02:48 AM
Stewart made him look just plain stupid.

2010-03-10 11:03:15 AM
this guy was in way over his head with Jon.
Jon doesn't let you come on his show and pimp your book then let you spew your propaganda for 5 min without being called on it.

this guy interjected his opinion as fact, posited a false choice fallacy then when getting called on it he tried to talk over Jon. then he played the victim card and made an appeal to the (refs) audience like he'd been fouled.

total loser

2010-03-10 11:03:31 AM
Yeah, lawyers providing representation for Gitmo detainees are just like mob and drug cartel lawyers. Right. Horrible comparison there, douchebag.

Let's see... he's full of shiat when he claims Stewart didn't let him make any points. He got to make his points. He wanted to fill up all the air time with his points so they couldn't be adequately debated.

He complains that some of the five hundred or so detainees released from Gitmo previously under Bush went back and attacked Americans. He doesn't bother explaining how many people it's acceptable to detain indefinitely with no proof of their guilt just in case a few of them may attack us later. Is there a handy ratio? 1 terrorist, 3 innocents is okay? 1 terrorist, 50 innocents? 100? What's acceptable? And how long? The "War on Terror" is a war without end. There's no peace treaty that's going to be signed to end it leading to the POWs being released. He sounds like a man who would have argued in favor of the Japanese internment during WWII.

See, this is what I'm talking about. Why should the most investigative interviews in the American media come from a comedy host?

Someone hire a real journalist, give them credentials, and you'll get viewership from all demographics.

Pretty much. He basically argued that he was persecuted by the nasty, left wing talk show host. My first thought was that Bill farking Kristol even says Stewart will give you a fair shake, go ahead and go on his show.

Jesus. I'm watching the extended sections now. I could never, ever do Jon Stewart's job. He's got more self-restraint in his little finger than I could muster in any 5 lifetimes to NOT just lunge across the desk and deck this gibbering dolt directly in his pasty, Twinkie-creme-filled face.

Well, there's also the fact that he's way smarter and funnier than I am, too...but it's mostly the decided lack of face-punchery in this particular context.

He let the guy destroy himself in front of a very large audience. I wouldn't interrupt that either.

If that were me and not Jon Stewart hosting the show, it would have gone like this:

Marc: WHARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGOAGOAIOAFGUIOAFSUIOIOUADGOUIAGDUIOIOY UDGUIOGADIOUGIOUADGUIOGARRBL

Me: Wow. um, yeah. This is just too stupid. I'm sorry, I can't allow this on my show. I don't think it's morally responsible to let me give you a soapbox to infect my viewers with that poisonous idiocy. Get the fark off my show.

END INTERVIEW.

But Jon's way better at this than me.

So? That won't necessarily be a bad thing. This is one of those instances where the maxim "All publicity is good publicity" is pretty much correct.

Do it right, and you'll be able to laugh at them while tearing them to shreds.

Right you are, of course. It's always better when Jon just gives them the rope, and then they cheerfully proceed to hang themselves with it. In the hands of a deft interviewer like Stewart, a deceptively smart guy with a VERY long memory, it's nearly inevitable. They almost always slip up, contradict themselves, or both. It's beautiful to watch the "oh, shiat" moment spread across their faces when it dawns on them that they've been over-matched by a guy they made the mistake of underestimating.

Even so, and even knowing this, I'd still have punched this dick if it were me. Punched him hard. Even if for no other reason than just to make MYSELF feel better.

So, yeah. Stewart is the shiat.
