Yeah, but American already gets that. Mind you, you have to go back to January 2009 the last time a dick was removed.

I know a girl with the last name Castro. Hmm, I wonder...

And, of course, it's not a sex change until after removing the penis, you put in a vagina. Otherwise, it's just a castration.

Not saying I agree, but that's taking the metaphor to its logical conclusion.

Whatever.

To most people, they're not. it's a TINY TINY TINY number of people ... like 2%.

MOST PEOPLE ARE STRAIGHT AND HAPPY WITH IT.

Please stop pretending that asserting this fact is hate-speech.

for most people, the narrative of heterosexuality and mate-choosing is very very true. Stop making people think that heteronormativism is evil.

+1 farking this.

How is this cool? Waaaa my genetics are at odds with my feelings. Someone else should pay to fix it for me! This goes in the bucket of not-a-social-problem with boob implants and cosmetic hair transplants. Pay for it with your own damn money.

2010-03-10 12:19:55 PM
You can have that done in the US to, all you have to do is go to prison and then sue to have government pay for it.

Yes. Because freedom is having the government take 25% of your pay to cover the cost of things like paying for people's sex change operations.

There is no need for that kind of stuff to be covered.

I didn't read the full article so I have no idea if the govt is paying for the entire deal like you stated or not. If so yeah I can see how that is silly. However, if it is just the genitals I don't see why it is a big deal. What about people who were born with both genitals? Transgendered have a large suicide rate, and I think having one simple operation to keep someone from killing or hurting themselves is by far better for society as a whole.

Fed + NYC + NYS + Salestax = 50%

That being said ... I'd really like to get healthcare with that package, even if it means we need handle a few TG cases. Seriously, this is reality. Society demands compromise. You want purity? Go build yourself a unibomber-style shack.

demonfaerie: I didn't read the full article so I have no idea if the govt is paying for the entire deal like you stated or not.

TFA didn't help - at closest it said these operations in the states can cost from $10k-$100k (that's quite a range btw). But Cuba wasn't releasing its costs. That said, I dont think there is any sort of co-pay down there.

Congenital conditions should be taken care of. Usually they are, at birth, and usually the person winds up being a girl (because it's easier). But that's not what we're talking about here - we're talking about a genetic-normal who "feels" like he should be a woman.

Now, funnily, I'm actually sort of ok with this happening (in cuba) because Cuban doctors are state employees and can operate only through state-policy. Policy says no operations for this, no operations will (legally) occur. There *is* no viable alternative for these poor bastards. So whereas I think they should be absolutely free to obtain this procedure if they so choose, because of the way the system is - they can't pay for these changes even if they wanted to. This is a pretty twisted result of a stupid statist policy.

Or they can pay for it themselves.

What if they picked the wrong sex for the child that doesn't go with the child's gender? The person has to go through another surgery? Also what about men or women who have an extra chromosome like XXY? Outside wise they are one sex but chromosomely they can be either one or both.

In my "perfect" world, the first situation you present, provided it's based on a congenital basis and not just because Steve wants to become Eve, would be considered a covered anomaly.

I'm not a geneticist, but based upon my understanding, the latter scenario still unequivocally produces a male, albeit with certain medical issues, but still a male.

The first cost is you have to live in Cuba. If I were in the market for a sex change, I think I'd be willing to spend a little money in Thailand. The best of the best don't live in shiatholes and work for free.

I watched the HBO show about the Bunny Ranch just last weekend and on it was featured a post-op trans formerly a man. His/Her fantasy was to be with 2 women. Of course such things are possible at a brothel. If you guessed he/she/ strapped on a dildo and nailed the girls, you win one internet. Irony?? Me thinks so.

And you know that Cuba is a shiathole because you've spent a lot of time there, correct ?

As far as healthcare goes, yeah in Cuba doctors are not paid a lot, but the standard of healthcare is still very high. For starters, thanks to free healtcare for all the life expenctancy in Cuba is actually higher than in the US (probably because child and infant mortality rates are lower).

While I won't disagree with you about government-provided health care, the 10th amendment makes that an issue for the state to consider, not the federal government.
