Every time I see "accidentally hit the gas instead of the brake" in a news story, I have a very small seizure. How the hell do people do that?

Ive never done that but I have had my foot slip off the brake and onto the gas. I jumped a sidewalk and ran into the side of a convenience store. Didnt go through it but hit it hard enough to knock the candy shelves down. White Jeep too.........odd.

Seriously, tho, WTF? They've got poles that shoot out of the ground in Europe and can lift a truck off the ground and stop it cold without sustaining the least bit of damage. Surely, it can't be that hard to install effective, non-moving posts at a fraction of the cost. Wish I could find a pic of a big truck hung up on one of those poles.

Ah. Retractable bollards. That's the ticket. So if they can make retractable ones that can stop a vehicle the size of an SUV or delivery van or a freakin' bus without getting damaged, you'd think it'd be even easier to set up fixed bollards that can stop a vehicle.
