FTFY because Costner can't hold an accent on a bet. One of the reasons I love Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves is that about halfway through Costner just gives up any pretense of an English accent. And he looks good in leather.

Costner is the worst actor I can think of, regardless of how well he chooses his roles (according to the article, at least). In fact, he is the guy I reference when I want to knock another actor's talents; as in, "Keanu's acting in that movie was almost as bad as Kevin Costner." He does a great job of being 'flat' though, if there was ever a role that called for it.

Don't get me wrong, the guy has made some fine films. They would just all have been better if he wasn't in them.

lol true. was watching eastbound and down, love the show, and no one knows how to throw a ball or swing a bat. The same can be said for "the duke" in major league

He should have Oscared for The Big Chill.

Costner's accent aside for just a moment, Thirteen Days was a darn good movie. Great casting job on RFK, JFK, and Mcnamara in particular.

But yeah, goddamn was Costner's accent bad. When he first spoke I actually said, "Jesus Christ" outloud in the theater. A complete and total assault on the senses.

Marisyana: plus Alan Rickman

Costnerhood is a hilarious movie. Mostly because of Alan Rickman's frustrated scenery chewing but also because of Costner's staggering incompetence.

A Perfect World was an excellent film, and his small part in Silverado ranks as one of the most clearly fun things he's done. And he did hold his accent in A Perfect World, so there's that.

It wasn't a good accent, I should add. Just consistent.

Robin Hood starts with the hero coming up through a modern manhole cover and goes downhill from there. I hate this movie with a passion but I don't blame Kevin for it. He's just one of the victims of bad casting, bad directing, bad editing and crappy dialogue.

I didn't read the article and I probably won't read this thread either, I just wanted to say how much I loved Mr. Brooks.

Wow, I actually thought he had directed it and it was a Costner vanity project. I see I was mistaken. Thanks, IMDB.

Amusingly, the director of Costnerhoood wrote Red Dawn, and also directed Waterworld.

"The Duke's" major league baseball career (new window)

Yeah, you're probably right.

Mr Brooks was good, not great but good. People forget No Way Out and Silverado all the time when they talk about his career too, good movies. Don Johnson was really good in Tin Cup too, although I don't think he was acting ;).

sickb0y: Silverado

He had a very small role in Silverado, and was just starting out- the top billing was reserved for most of the rest of the ensemble who were established actors when the film came out.

That, and it was a highly underrated film. It did poorly in theaters and only developed a cult following years later. Such is the fate of westerns, sadly.

First half of Waterworld was great. After the Atoll sinks? Not so much.

I enjoyed the heck out of Waterworld. I enjoyed The Postman a little less, but still a decent movie. Mr Brooks was very good. I actually enjoyed Dane Cook's character, especially when he was killed.

When I was a kid, I couldn't tell the difference between Kevin Costner and Bruce Willis. Now that the former has largely dropped off the radar, it's less of a problem.

Also, whenever I come across a reference to Adlai Stevenson, I automatically imagine the actor who played him in Thirteen Days.

I liked him in the Avatar prequel.

That was a fantastic movie! I really don't understand the Costner hate. The guy's a good actor, and he's clearly very creative in multiple ways. Dances With Wolves was awesome.

He came by the network I work at last year when he was touring with his band. Only had one "handler" and was a super nice guy both off and on set. Many times artists don't talk to the staff... but he did.

Whenever I see that shot of whatshisname in Avatar getting ready to shoot the bow with the blue girl beside him, I think of the scene in Costner's Robin Hood when Marian blows in his ear just before he releases the arrow.

I can't seem to find the equivalent Robin Hood shot.

Dances With Wolves is an excellent movie, and I think Costner does a good job. His "dullness" works for it.

I also admittedly love Field of Dreams, but not so much for his role. The other characters are awesome.

And he was superb in Silverado. I first saw it a few years ago, and within five minutes of his character being on screen, I said, "holy crap, this is Kevin Costner? He's...he's....ANIMATED!" So different from his other stuff.

Robin Hood was pretty hilarious though. For me, it was probably because I saw Men in Tights first, so I was laughing because I finally understood what was being made fun of.

Gunny Highway: Two words, Open Range.

Very good movie. I can watch it over and over again just for the 'Shootout' scene. Ear rattling real, and one of the few shootout scenes in a movie where more shots fired are misses instead of hits.

Say what you like about Costner, the guy can direct a movie.

sheesh. Check out the director's cut.

Tin Cup and Perfect World are two of my favorite movies. both great, and Costner really shows his range. He doesn't always have to be the big hero of the movie. He can be an over the hill schlub going for one last shot of glory at golf, Or a truly heartless killer who finds that one last bit of humanity while spending time with the kid he kidnapped.

His range is wide open.

Thirteen Days was wonderful.

It is.

And, not mentioned for some strange reason, so is 'Open Range'. I would put in the same general area as 'Unforgiven'; a movie that made Westerns interesting again.

I also think his version of 'Earp' is good.

And while 'Dragonfly' wasn't great, it didn't suck, either.

But 'The Postman' is just terrible (but still better than the POS book).

2010-03-10 04:32:19 PM
I'm not sure when exactly or why KC became a scapegoat. Even John Travolta's been forgiven for making sucky career moves.

Was it when Madonna insulted him in Truth Or Dare? Or because he couldn't save his marriage (and, yes, I remember the love child he had during that time)? How much exactly is Waterworld or The Postman to blame?

Was it because he didn't know how to be a bad boy, good guy, or somewhere in between? Somehow, Charlie Sheen and Mel Gibson are still Hollywood royalty ...

2010-03-10 05:19:04 PM
I liked him in Wyatt Earp and Mr Brooks. They really need to do a sequel to Mr Brooks...some back story about him and the Mason character.
