The difference is that Rubio is the self-loathing type, which seems to be a serious impediment to making good laws...

It's times like this that I wish Florida would let us vote outside our party affiliation in the primaries.

Meh, they both suck.

Crist only cares about looking good and getting elected. He will do whatever is popular and has no substance.

Rubio is a knee jerk wingnut.

I didn't vote for Crist, but I actually like him. He has been very moderate in comparison to other republicans in Florida. I'd vote for him for senate most likely.

So as a Democrat, would you vote for the stronger or weaker opposition candidate (generally speaking)? I'm not encouraged by Meeks.

So...is there a Democratic candidate? Because I'm enjoying watching the GOP eat itself.

This is Crist trying to make a big deal out of nothing because his poll numbers are tanking and he stands a better-than-even chance of being humiliated in the primary by losing to a guy who had 3% name recognition when the race started.

This flap has gotten a lot of play in the news here in Orlando, and from everything I've heard, Rubio paid the credit card bill out of his own pocket. He used the card as a matter of convenience, not because he was trying to get the RNC to pay for his personal expenses.

If you've ever had an American Express Corporate Card for business travel, it's pretty much the same thing. Reimbursable expenses go on an expense report and are paid by the company to AmEx. Non-reimbursable expenses are paid by you.

Bill McCollum (the current AG and wannabe governor) made an idiot of himself by talking about potential criminal investigations. This was a card issued by the RNC, not by any government or government agency. Rubio was free to use the card in any way that the RNC said was permissible.

Kendrick Meek. Seems like a nice enough guy and all, but so far he seems to be just doing the typical, gimmicky campaign stuff. Maybe he's holding out to see who his opposition will be.

Can't say I know much about him or his candidacy.

what_now: So...is there a Democratic candidate? Because I'm enjoying watching the GOP eat itself.

The likely Democrat nominee is Kendrick Meek, who is something of a political non-entity despite being a congressman. He trails either of the Republican candidates by double digits in every poll that I've seen.

Kendrick Meek would be a million times better than Rubio, and significantly better than Crist. I just hope his lack of name recognition and his minority status won't kill his chances....

The running whargarbl down here states that whatever Rubio used the card for over the years is strictly an issue between him and the GOP and is nothing for the commoners to be concerned over.

Crist is a lying cesspool of filth. See yesterday's NYTimes article on his sell-out of the Everglades restoration projects to rescue "big sugar".

Crist sends prayers written on paper to stuff into cracks in the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem.

Fark: To protect Florida from hurricanes.

And he is the less crazy of the two.

Good luck Florida.

I am not from Florida, but I would like to hear what any Farkers from there think of Rubio. I heard a very interesting interview with Crist on NPR yesterday. Crist seems like he is a moderate R, and Rubio gives the impression of being more of a neocon. If Rubio is the nominee, what are the chances he could lost to a Dem challenger in the election?

2010-03-09 12:25:55 PM
So my understanding of the race, is that the GOP has turned on Crist because he took stimulus money and thanked Obama for it, where as the rest of the GOP denounced the stimulus but still showed up for the ribbon cuttings. Besides that, he hasn't been nearly as monumentally bad as other Governors, like Arnold and Paterson.

2010-03-09 12:28:46 PM
Kendrick Meek is the Democrat? Seriously? Good luck winning national office with that name. Guess this is Rubio vs. Crist FTW.

2010-03-09 12:33:10 PM
Before the Governor's office was even redecorated, he blew a wad of taxpayer money, visiting his relatives in Israel, all under the Pretense of economic development.
We really don't need more people or jobs here,we need to encourage people to go back where they came from.We are bankrupt, feeding and housing all these breeding hordes.
Feeding, housing and educating a family of seven, picking a basket or two of oranges without draining the public's much needed revenue is not possible.

StrikitRich; I'm so glad that this 2 week old story is still going around. If this is all that Charlie can come up with in the way of dirt then Marco has nothing to worry about at all.

Christ is keeping these credit card charges in the news because sometime before the election Ray Sansom and his two finagling buds are going to court to face criminal charges for grand theft. At that time, the Florida democrats will once again attempt to drag the entire 'credit cards to get around the campaign contributions laws' deal, that the republicans narrowly avoided when Sansom stepped down at the last minute. Both Sansom and Rubio spent over 150k apiece on themselves with those credit cards; and both Charly and the democrats are going to use this against Rubio.

Rabid Cuban wingnut from south Florida. As someone who is left of center, I'll be pulling for Crist.

The problem is, GOP voters are world champions at amnesia/cognitive dissonance. I predict they'll passionately support whichever candidate gets the GOP nod, and forget all the nasty things they said about him during the campaign

Just look at Free Republic: during the '08 primary season, saying anything complimentary about that RINO McCain was a bannable offense. The Moment he got the nomination, you could be banned for saying anything critical of the proud GOP warrior McCain

This happens with Democrats and Republicans alike. I seem to remember a certain amount of anger and bitterness surrounding the 2008 Democrat presidential primary; but those disgruntled Hillary supporters still pulled the lever for Obama in large numbers when November rolled around.

Most people subscribe to the "half a loaf is better than none" philosophy of voting.

This is the same Bob Smith who used to be a senator from New Hampshire from 1990 - 2002. I remember him as being a bit of an oddball.

First I have many gay friends. That said, I am kind of tired of the gays dominating the news cycle and getting all up in my face. They can do what they want in private of course, but I don't wish to see it. So I will never vote republican again.

"He charged a $130 haircut, or maybe it was a back wax. We're not really sure what all he got at that place," said Crist.

$130 for a haircut, huh? I wonder what Crist spends on his beard.

I'm not sure what you're getting at but let me make my point perfectly clear.

Marco Rubio is a disembodied donkey penis oozing a syphilitic pus of baby diarrhea.

Anyone who votes for him is the enemy of freedom and deserves to spend their remaining years in a leper colony.

Oh, I'm in full agreement with you in regard to Rubio. But out of the two, he's the one the Teabaggers are behind. So he must have some appeal there. He's passed their "purity test".

So the first thing that comes to Crist's mind after "haircut" is "back wax"? Wow. Even I'm not that gay, and neither is my boyfriend.
