I doubt the children will be at the boxing match. And if they are they better have some gloves on.

Jesus christ, its a boxing match. It isn't exactly a spa retreat. the few beers most of the crowd will be having will be far worse for them than the hour and a half of second hand smoke.

Misleading headline is misleading...it's a fundraiser for the kids, no children will be present at said event.

No kids at the bars I work in or frequent, either.

I agree, but....

Channel surfing a few weeks ago, came across some old basketball footage on one of the sports channels. You never see the ring of smoke inside the arena around the scoreboard anymore, unless they set off fireworks.

Why's boxing gotta be different?

/Oppose smoking bans, but expect there's places I can't smoke anymore
//If I still smoked, I guess.

Why would kids without health insurance box?

I was going to ask "Where?". "Where is a better place to allow a smoking ban?"

Really? Would you care to provide some evidence backing this counter-medical statement?

Regardless of where this MORON wants to allow smoking, just the mere fact that he only wants it in certain places that he attends shows what kind of ass this guy is.. Why the FARK do we elect people like this self-serving SOB?? I've known criminals with more sense than this councilman.

"Hey A**HOLE? If you need something to do, I'm sure DC has something else that needs attention"

as long as they still allow smoking at the strip clubs that employ underage "dancers"

It's called a boxing SMOKER for a reason.

Not only that, but the event, and smoking cigars at the event have been a DC tradition for decades

The "then substitution for than" really seems to have taken off in the last year or so. I don't remember seeing it as much in the past.

Really?

I guess you've never been to a boxing Smoker before.

Traditionally, you go, drink crappy beer, smoke cheap-ass cigars, sit around with the guys, maybe have hamburgers that taste like shoe leather, and watch amateur fights.

No, it's not Tyson vs. Holyfield. Not even golden gloves level. it's usually something like local firefighters vs. cops or two branches of the military to raise funds for families of fallen heroes.

Take away one of the above elements, and you kill some of the tradition. Kill some of the tradition, you lose some of the audience. Lose some of the audience, you reduce the money raised for the charity.

So...this guy getting an exepmtion and asking for a permanent exemption--which will in essence permanently enhance the funds raised for this and other charities, makes him a "self-serving SOB?"
how do you figure?

Well, thanks to SCHIP, smokers are already paying for health care for uninsured children. Seems only fair to me, doubles up the donations!

I was enjoying mine until the charger died after less than a week. Much better than gum or patch, and no freaky suicidal thoughts like the drugs.

/Gonna biatch at co. until I get a replacement, or I'll dispute charges on CC
//Bought a pack of cigs again. :-/

Samual Tweed a.k.a. Joe Frazier was called "Smokin' Joe" because he won so many of his fights by knock out in the early rounds [citation].

Frazier's battles with Ali were epic.

Most fighters I know take thier conditioning too seriously to smoke.
