Beckham returns to Old Trafford

And they've got like a whole box of his stuff they're hoping he'll take with him.

Agreed. The Champions' Cup format was better. Only league champions and last year's winner allowed and every round was a two legged knockout. Unfortunately, there's too much money in this new format for UEFA and the big clubs for there to be any change.

I will start caring about soccer when its not on 100% of the time throughout the year.

Now as for the world cup this summer, should be damned interesting!

We are Massive. Concacaf champions league today. Go Crew!

Arsenal should go through even without Fabregas. They score so easily that a 2-1 deficit should not stop them.

Bayern-Fiorentina should be alot closer.

Man U seems like pretty much a lock to go through.

Real Madrid are lucky to still be in it at all. They could easily have conceded 2 or 3 in the first leg.

2010-03-09 09:41:37 AM
I can't wait for Becks' return to Old Trafford! Then I hope we kill them 2-0. Rooney was listed as "very doubtful" as of last night. It's alright, we need to take Milan's approach of 11 men behind the ball and secure the win or draw.

poisonedpawn78: I will start caring about soccer when its not on 100% of the time throughout the year.

Well...European leagues aren't on during June, July and half of August...does that count?

SigmaAlgebra: there's too much money in this new format for UEFA and the big clubs for there to be any change.

QFT. UEFA is slowly becoming the NFL of Europe. I still love the Champions League though, it does let smaller clubs have the chance to play on the big stage. I mean, the people in Budapest sure as hell never would have expected to be playing Liverpool.

It's what keeps me from really enjoying club soccer. Too much crap going on at the same time.

You have the standard leagues and their tables, then domestic cups and tourneys and then international tourneys.

I'd find it so much more enjoyable if it was all consolidated somehow.

What about Fake Madrid?

Rooney is fit.

Wes Brown is out for 4-6 weeks.

I can definitely understand what you're saying. I grew up with the sport and the tournaments, so I'm used to it now. However, I have a few friends who are really trying to get into the EPL, but they get confused over what they're supposed to be watching any given week. Is it the premiership? FA Cup? Carling Cup? Champions League? Europa Cup?

I guess it just takes some while to get used to, but when you do, it makes every tournament that much more interesting.

689908: Wes Brown is out for 4-6 weeks.

Do you feel both Wes Brown and Gary Neville have underperformed since coming back from injury? I feel as though they haven't strengthened our defense at all.

I just think they are both past their peak. Wes has always been injury-prone, and two years ago when he got a consistent run in the team, he looked good at right-back. Neville hasn't been the same since he missed a year, but I don't think he's been too bad in recent weeks.

Rafael should be ahead of Neville in the pecking order at this point in time. He is going to be a real star.

I completely agree, I think he just needs to mature into his position a little more. He's too active, running up the by-line and acting as ALMOST a 5th midfielder. It leaves us exposed in the back on the counter-attack too often, but that's a part of his understanding of the game. It will only get better.

I'm crossing my fingers that Lyon have what it takes to shut Madrid down today.

That would be awesome.

Imo it's alot easier to learn a young player to stay back a bit more than to teach him to go forward more.

By the way, what do we think about Nani? He hasn't matured quite as well as I thought (although he's still young obviously)

labomba: By the way, what do we think about Nani? He hasn't matured quite as well as I thought (although he's still young obviously)

He had that brief spell of 3 or 4 good games, but the way he played against Wolves was quite terrible. He could not find his legs and could not get his passes together properly.

He's a hot and cold player, and his inconsistencies has lead me to believe he's not really a good match for United in the long run. It's been 3 years, and it's still the same inconsistencies. I just don't see him staying at United past this summer unless his form drastically changes.

Nani is still trying to play his natural 'look at me i'm awesome game' instead of doing what he is dispatched to do. Coaches call it passing.

Terrible against Wolves. Utd will stick with him as he has great potential.

Thank you. You're absolutely right. I forgot there was a 2009 between 2008 and 2010.

I can't help but cheer for Lyon tomorrow. I also hope Barca goes out, but that is less likely to happen (and for more selfish reasons). I will probably be cheering for the Arse today, but I just hope its a good game.

Hrm, the only ones broadcast for me on TV are Arsenal/Porto today and Fiorentina/Bayern Munich tommorow. I can DVR those and watch'em later tonight, but the others would be fun to watch.

Darn work rules against P2P streams.

Arsenal have the depth of a kiddie pool and the leadership of the line leader in a kindergarden class. Wenger is a complete and total sissy who would be better served coaching women's curling in Latvia.

Mr_H If you check here: BBC Site (new window) you may be able to find a radio stream. Not sure if that helps or anything, but its always worth a shot. Does your work block Windows Media streams as well as flash streams?

Oh I should also note that both Arsenal/Porto and Fiorentina/Bayern Munich are on today. Tomorrow is Man Utd/Milan and Real Madrid/Lyon.

ManUtd - we looked weak in defense at the weekend and unforch have to deal with a growing injury-list among the back four. I'm quite relieved VdS is back, but he and his 10-foot wingspan alone can't stave off continental attacking for 90/180 minutes.

What used to be an auto back four (Gaz, Rio, Vidic, Ev) is now a who's who of "Suit up, you'll do." We can perhaps get away with that domestically, but not at this level at every stage of the tournament. I'll settle for a nil-nil tomozz.

Thanks for the link, I'll see if it works for me this time (in the past I think it's told me that I was in the wrong country)

Work blocks only P2P streams. I've used Flash and Windows Media before on non P2P sites at work (I use the p2p all the time at home). I work at a university and we don't want students killing the bandwidth.

Man U playing a style they are not accustomed to against a Milan side that sees those tactics domestically week in and week out?

Bring it on!

On the bright side, that game would open right the fark up once Milan go up 2-nil

It'll be interesting to see how long Bayern Munich wait before they get a little reckless in the 2nd half, cuz they need a goal and the Viola are likely to be cautious
