WTF? Farrah was best known for her work in TV. Her movie career wasn't all that stellar(the only movie I can actually remember her being in was "Saturn 3"). EMMY would be a better forum for "remembering" her.

How soon we forget some of the cinematic masterpieces she was in...like "The Cannonball Run", "Logan's Run", "Dr T and the Women" & "Sunburn".

BTW-they forget Bea Arthur too.

Brittany Murphy didn't star in too many masterpieces either.

Besides, I thought the Oscars was all about deifying mediocre careers.

I feel bad for the guy, honestly. The earlier article talked about how the producers were trying to justify the exclusion; and they still haven't given one to pacify O'Neal.

And making fun of the son was easier.

The Academy loves her. And love means never having to say you're sorry.

Ever since Leo didn't get a nod for Titanic I have boycotted the Oscars.

Man up, Nancy.
She had bit parts in a dozen or so big screen movies.
She had bit parts in a hella lot of TV work, and a few leading roles on TV too. She was a horrible actress. Great nipples, but a horrible actress. I'm sorry for your loss, but she wasn't Gene Kelly.

The douchebags at the Academy only left off an actor who was in films for 70 GD years. A-holes.

On one hand, I agree that she wasn't a movie star, but they had Michael Jackson in the tribute...

And they include studio execs every year and not just producer/execs, but just execs. People who never directly worked on a movie in their life. And hell one of the people recognized last night was a PR guy. When people who never actually worked on a movie are included, there's no excuse for omitting a well known actor, even if they weren't that good or ever that successful.

Er, he died early last year. I'm sure he was honored at the 2009 awards.

Jackson was in The Wiz, a bunch of short films (Yes, Thriller and Moonwalker are considered short films) and his documentary made a hundred million. Not to mention all the movies his music appeared in.

I wasn't even aware Fawcett was in anything or did anything other than a tv show in the 70's.

Was she actually a member of the Acadamy? I think that might make a difference, but that's pure conjecture.

For 40 years, yes.

And she was great in "The Apostle", which was one of her last films.

Also, the montage is limited to 30 names apparently.

I agree he could have been left off the list too. I don't think anyone would have had a fit either.
Montalban on the other hand definately should have been there. He starred in a hella lot of movies and was one of the first Latin stars who stood up against the negative portrayals of Mexicans in the movies. The Nosotros Foundation and the Ricardo Montalban Theatre are pretty important achievments. Oh yeah, and the Pope made him a knight.
Should I go on or can I stop?

Sean Penn brashly said he's not a member of the Academy, but if he kicks anytime soon I suspect he'd get double the John Hughes treatment.

Major role in blockbuster movie "The Wiz," the only one in the film with a bigger part was Dorothy.

But Ricardo Montleban should have been recognized as well, also major role in at least one blockbuster film. I mean, obviously the academy wanted to really piss off Ryan O'Neal for some reason, so they left Farrah out, but what was the logic behind excluding Ricardo?

KelvinTheClown: Also, the montage is limited to 30 names apparently.

I wondered about that as I watched. I've been working on some video montages lately and I'm starting tonotic editing techniques.
It looked like they were giving about 5 seconds per name, so at 30 names that runs about 2 1/2 minutes and Taylor started singing about 20 seconds or so before and after the montage so that makes sense.

I didn't realise Farrah was a member of the Academy. That certainly explains the hurt.

He was, along with a tribute at last year's SAG awards and Emmies. Doesn't stop people from biatching about him not being included in this year's, apparently.

And Ryan, STFU and continue hitting on your daughter.

2010-03-09 04:42:03 AM
Here are a couple of blog posts detailing other possible names for inclusion:

http://finaltaxi.wordpress.com/2010/03/08/the-black-carpet-of-the-2010-academy -a wards/

http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2010/03/08/the-academy-awards-memoriam-those-who-wer e- forgotten/

Both mention Farrah, neither mention Ricardo Montalbon. The MTV blog is mostly TV people, although a case could be made for Henry Gibson. The Final Taxi link has some additional good choices.

2010-03-09 04:45:10 AM
I stand corrected on Montalbon. (Not that I was biatching, I was just surprised he hadn't been mentioned. Poor research on my part.)

I'm still against honoring PR people and critics over actual actors/craftspeople though.

2010-03-09 04:48:26 AM
The 2010 list was:

Patrick Swayze
Maurice Jarre
Monte Hale (actor)
Jean Simmons
Tullio Pinelli (writer)
Eric Rohmer (director)
Ken Annakin (director)
David Carradine
Gareth Wigan (executive)
Daniel Melnick (producer)
Howard Zief (director)
Dom DeLuise
Army Archerd
Ron Silver
Brittany Murphy
Lou Jacobi
Simon Channing-Williams (producer)
Betsy Blair
Joseph Wiseman
Jack Cardiff (cinematographer)
Kathryn Grayson
Arthur Canton (public relations)
Nat Boxer (sound)
Millard Kaufman (writer)
Roy E. Disney (executive)
Larry Gelbart
Horton Foote
Robert Woodruff Anderson (writer)
Budd Schulberg
Michael Jackson
Natasha Richardson
Jennifer Jones
David Brown (producer)
Karl Malden

First of all, that's more than 30 names. Secondly, assuming that someone must be removed to make room for Farrah, who would you remove?

2010-03-09 04:54:42 AM
Ryan ONeal needs to STFU.

My first inclination is Army Archerd, but he has a history with the Oscars. So leave him in.

My second inclination is Arthur Canton. But he was actually a member of the Academy too, even if he was just a PR guy.

My third inclination is, stick Farrah in there, it's already more than your arbitrary limit of 30, and seriously, if you're going to give a giant chunk of TV time to the Modern Dance troupe, you can give 10 seconds to someone people actually want to see on the teevee box.

2010-03-09 05:19:28 AM
I'm inclined to not give a fark.

2010-03-09 05:41:22 AM
It WAS a glaring omission; I'm with him. Especially since they saw fit to include the kiddydiddler.

2010-03-09 05:51:12 AM
The oscars and all awards shows are a joke anyway IMHO. We have huge award shows eating up hours of tv time to honor farking people who stand in front of a camera and pretend to be someone else. Lets have an awards show for people who are really making a difference. Honor people who have fed/clothed/housed refugees in Africa. People who make genuine sacrifices to make the world a better place. Like those people in Haiti who were trying to help those poor orphans.

2010-03-09 07:39:30 AM
Because they only allow ONE person per day on the list. So shut the fu*k up O'Neal and sit the fu*k down.

David Carradine. I thought he was still hanging around somewhere.

What about Micheal Jackson?

2010-03-09 09:19:09 AM
I just figured it was because A) She died at the same time as Michael Jackson, therefor ensuring an obscure death and B) No one honestly gave a shiat about Farrah Fawcett outside of the 70's. The fact that she was a TV actress didn't even occur to me. Let the Emmy's or Golden Globes have her.

2010-03-09 09:50:26 AM
To be honest, the only way to make the death list complete and fair for last year would have been to have John Moschitta Jr read it but then he'd probably say "Remember, if it doesn't say Micro Machines, it's not the real thing." at the end and it would get all awkward.

How do you know, Gene may have had fantastic nipples!
That might explain why you never saw him shirtless, he was shy.

That's all very nice, except that by that logic, Michael Jackson should not have been included, since the annual NAMBLA awards would have been a more appropriate venue.

Although I agree the Emmys would probably be a better forum.

Back when I was 10 I was playing with Griffin O'Neal (we were about the same age) in a playground and he wanted to go back to the house and do some coke. I had no idea what he was talking about. Never saw him again after that.
