Sorry to tell SUBBY but UCoon Ladies are pretty much making the Men's teams look sad. I am fairly confident that the Ladies would trounce at least 15 of the top 25 schools in the NCAA top 25. I'm undecided on the last 10, but think it might make a fairly excited tourney to give it a shot.

71 women's games? That's like - what - 25 in men's games?

Yeah but has anyone come within single digits of them this year? That would be an improvement.

Nope. Closet margin of victory was 12 against then #2 Stanford. They were up by 22 with 5 minutes to go before Auriemma put the subs in.

I think it'd be more fun to make the men's team that loses the 64 vs. 65 play in game the 16 seed in UConn's bracket for the women's tournament.

Yeah, that is what I am hoping for. It would be fun to see Jackson St. or Quinnipiac going to town on the greatest women's team of all time.

When one team or individual totally dominates a sport, it gets to where you wonder if that team is really that good, or the rest of the sport really that bad?

I don't follow women's basketball, but in international sports, generally it's a case of the rest of the sport being horrible. Think about basketball in the 80s and early 90s, women's ice hockey currently, etc. It could be different in this case considering this is one college program blowing everyone out, compared to the Canadian women's hockey team crushing Slovakia or something.

Nice try, but the Uconn womens team would get destroyed by every single DI mens team. I am not sexist, just with the difference in player size, the difference in ball size and the ability for the mens team to dominate the court inside the three point line, you would be looking at a blowout.

Who are you and what position do you play for the UCONN women's team??

2010-03-09 12:10:51 PM
I am a fan of UConn ladies b-ball. I grew up minutes away from Storrs when UConn basketball was only about Tate George's buzzer beater. Now it's about which All-American Geno is going to recruit and how the team will rip a new one into Tennessee, Stanford, Notre Dame, or any other top ladies program. I have no problem with this.

The Uconn Lady Huskies (cringe) program went through the motions so I like seeing the success they're enjoying now, as I know it can't last forever. I believe once the WNBA goes out of business, expect more NCAA recruiting parity.

Every D1 men's team would not or could not beat the Lady Huskies. There are plenty of ranked D1 men's teams that rely on jump shooting with small forwards and guards occasionally making a drive.
There are some D1 men's teams that are just terrible as well.

I'd say the Lady Huskies would go 2-8 against the top 10.
10-5 against the top 11-25 teams.
Win 75% of games against non-ranked men's teams.

One of the reasons the Lady Huskies are dominant is because they have women the size of men in the paint.

Not a chance. They'd get blown out by almost any D1 mens team, except maybe Fordham.

Camille Cooper graduated in 1997, Miss Kentucky basketball.

Scott County won the girls state title in 1995.
Boys state title in 1998.

Pay attention to the line-ups between conference tourneys and NCAA bracket.
Nov 1996 - RoN Mercer was 6'4"
Mar 1997 - Ron Mercer was 6'8" in the SEC and 6'9" in the NCAA tourney.
I walked past him on the way to class every other day. He was about 6'3".

It's not just size. It's strength, speed, etc. Men are dominant in every aspect athletically. It's not sexist. It's fact.

I loves me some athletic women, but it's preposterous to say they would have a shot. An olympic caliber female sprinter in the world, couldn't beat the top high school boys. Flo-Jo set the world record at 10.49, the high school boys record (just in the US is 10.09).

There is an obvious disparity in most sports that can certainly be overcome by skill. The top female pool player in the world could easily match up with the top guy, but if a competition comes down to raw athletics, the guys have a distinct advantage, though the gap is certainly narrowing.

You are out of your god damn mind.

1st - Every team in the top 25 would beat them by at least 40. The girls won't be able to play the post(they don't have the size, the tallest girl on that god damn team is 6'4" and she would have about 50 lbs less muscle than even an average 6'4" male b-ball player.) No post, you basically take away half the court.
2nd - The smaller ball size that the woman use would give the men another advantage, and their fg% would go up huge.
3rd - Most shots taken within the 3 point line by the women would be swatted into the stands, and a good percentage of the ones take outside the line. Just look at the arc difference between mens and womens shots. Men have to compensate daily for defenders who are 6'6" and above where women do not.
4th - Anecdotal evidence is anecdotal. Ron Mercer is 6'7". If you saw someone who was 6'3", then that was not Ron Mercer, that was someone who looked like Ron Mercer and was 6'3". Also, are you so completely stupid that you think the men might fudge the stats a bit while the women would not? I imagine if anything, the height stats move the same amount.

I refuse to debate this issue anymore as it is retarded.

and I will just leave this right here....

Also, I am not trying to be an ass, or sexist, or a troll with all of this. Those girls are great female athletes and that is one hell of a record, and they should all be really proud for what they have done. Just if they played against a mens team, they would have no shot. No. Shot. They just don't stack up physically.

While I don't agree with the argument you are trying to make, this bit of your statement is dead on. The starting QB at my college was listed at 6'5". I was about 2-3 inches taller than him and I'm 6'2".

Also, do you think they may inflate the height of the female players as well?

2010-03-09 04:50:58 PM
I'd be curious to see the win percentage for the teams they've played in the last two regular seasons. I'd be willing to bet at least half those teams were not even close to being over .500....

What keeps me from truly embracing this is that the coach behind this is the vile Geno Auremma, who may just be the biggest asshole in sports. Anywhere.

Do you think coach geno gets bored coaching the best team in the minor leagues year after year?
