The Oilers aren't merely hitting the anus, subby. They ARE the anus.

However, I think the Cowtown record for consecutive seasons without a playoff appearance is 7 years. That's one record I hope the Oil doesn't match.

The seasons from 1996-1997 to 2002-03 were all playoff-less, so yeah, seven.

Well I jumped off my couch in startled surprise yesterday when I thought he scored a goal from the point. Turns out Borque deflected it, but still, I was pleased.

The guy is a shot blocking machine, I'll give him that, but Johnsson and a 3rd rounder is WAAAAAAY to high a price for 36-year old Staios.

This is true. He's in the same workhorse category as a guy like Jason Smith. His grit and commitment are never called into question.

it's because the frickin Sutters think that no team is complete without some grizzled stay at home D-man to round out the defensive corps. see Vandermeer, Jim.

That's about the only solace I can take in the season at this point. The funny thing before the year I was expecting a crap year from the Isles, but they hung around playoff-ville for a while and got my hopes up a bit. Oh well, baby steps.

That's a really cool graph. What can we extrapolate from that?

Let's use the end-of-first-period spike, the most conservative one. It looks like the delta is about 70ML, or 70 million litres of water (can that be right? or is an ML the same as a m3?).

Because it's a spike like that, we can presume that most of those are bathroom breaks. Nobody is running a bath or watering the lawn between periods, especially not for 5 minutes. Let's be conservative and take only half of that amount for potty breaks- 35 million litres.

The average toilet is about 4l/flush. Add in another few litres for a hand wash (as doubtful as I am about Edmontonians washing their hands), and round it up to 10L/ bathroom break.

That would put us somewhere in the region of 3.5 million litres, or around 3 bathroom breaks per citizen in and around Edmonton.

Now I know a lot of beer was consumed and Edmontonians have bladders akin to walnuts, but that can't be right. Where is my math failing me?

Two comments: I wonder if this fact is related to the one where Gauthier didn't move a goalie either. I know what he said about having two starters but man, they really could use a forward or two that's taller than 5'6".

Truly, this epitomizes what makes Fark awesome.

Where on earth other than here could there be a debate about how many flushes per citizen happened in Edmonton in the first period intermission of the gold medal game?

Traded for, and he wasn't completely honest. His nickname in the room was "Gorilla", or "Big Swede". And it was before the incident against Washington (for the most embarrassing moment question).

BTW, Wallin is tied for most playoff OT goals by a defenseman in a career with 3- He has 18 in the regular season in his career. And those 3 OT goals are the only ones he's ever scored in the playoffs.

Pardon Me Sultan:

They have been playing very well, and won again last night. At this rate, playoffs are not unthinkable.

Which means we'll lose the last game of the season and wind up at #9 in the east... again.

It's alright, I'll just curl into a corner and remember when the team used to actually make the playoffs and play an entertaining brand of hockey. Before John Ferguson Jr. showed up and decided that Raycroft Toskala and Jason Blake were the answers to our problems.

Tim Thomas has come up big with Tuukka Rask on the shelf. Still, as always, the offense is the big deal in Boston, where the Bruins have gone 2-2 since the break but have managed just seven goals. That kind of production won't get you into the playoffs -- even in the mediocre Eastern Conference.

*sigh* ...and now, no Savard for the foreseeable future.
