Let me help you with that, subby.

Former NBA star Allen Iverson "will either drink himself into oblivion or gamble his life away"

This happens to so many NBA players, it's ridiculous.

2010-03-08 12:59:35 PM
Who?

2010-03-08 01:10:17 PM
I'm drinking myself into oblivion, so I will probably get a kick out of these replies.

2010-03-08 01:11:45 PM
My only hope is that Iverson drinks Stephen A. Smith into oblivion.

2010-03-08 01:12:00 PM
A real man could do both

2010-03-08 01:17:14 PM
If he only had 230 kids like Shawn Kemp and Karl Malone did...

Nabb1: My only hope is that Iverson drinks Stephen A. Smith into oblivion.

It is impossible for someone that loud and obnoxious to be dealt with so easily.

YELLING YOUR ARGUMENT DOES NOT MAKE YOU RIGHT!

But Stuart, this pick HAS GOT.. TO WORK.

Either drink OR gamble your life away? Why not both?

2010-03-08 02:30:43 PM
He could return to Georgetown and finish his deg.... -snort- can't type that with a straight face.

2010-03-08 02:43:26 PM
As a former Philly bartender, I can state from experience that Mr. Iverson can certainly put away the Dewars. Glug glug glug.

rikdanger: Either drink OR gamble your life away? Why not both?

It's OR, not XOR. He could, and probably will do both.

Iverson, who played 25 games for the Sixers this season, returned to Atlanta in February to be with his family and deal with an undisclosed illness affecting his 4-year-old daughter, Messiah.

He named his daughter "Messiah"? Jesus Christ.

Well, that's sort of a pattern his family, because Iverson's mother swears to this day that she did not actually have sex with his father and that she was still a virgin when he was conceived.

Hear, hear.

Since this is being reported by Stephen A Smith, I will assume that the reality of the situation is this: Iverson will occasionally go out drinking with friends and might take a trip to Vegas every year to play blackjack and take in the latest Cirque Du Soleil show.

Was the obvious tag on strike or something?

He should try gambling with fake money just to get some....what is the word I am looking for? Damn it is right on the tip of my tongue.

2010-03-08 03:44:20 PM
So he's going to become the next Charles Barkley?

I'm not ok with this. Taco Bell makes bad food.

To get some game. Right?

If there is anything I can do to help this process along, let me know.

Oh god, I know what you're trying to say... if only there was some sort of humorous record of said athlete saying the word a few dozen times in a public setting.

Damn.

Not a game, not a game, not a game. What are we talkin' about?

Are you talking about PRACTICE!

I mean listen, we're sitting here talking about practice, not a game, not a game, not a game, but we're talking about practice. Not the game that I go out there and die for and play every game last it's my last but we're talking about practice man. How silly is that?

Gambling often doesn't work when you always bet the same wager, yet win less than 40% of the time.

He knows he's supposed to be there, he knows he's supposed to lead by example... He knows that.

But he's not shoving it aside, like it don't mean anything.

Or he can just slowly fade into Bolivian with me instead.

2wolves: He could return to Georgetown and finish his deg.... -snort- can't type that with a straight face.

He actually wanted to stay in school and get a degree. But his little sister needed a heart operation and his family is poor. So he went pro, signed a contract and paid for his sister's operation. He isn't a bad guy. Just never grew up.

My hope is that Stephen A. SMITH!!! has poked the wrong tiger, which will show up at Smith's house one night and shoot him in the face.

Drinking and gambling is not a game.

Option 1: give most of your money to your gold-digging ex-wife who filed for divorce the exact day your NBA career ended.

Option 2: drink and gamble it all away, die a tragic (but cool) death. F**k her.

If he's going for option 2, then I say good for him.

It was funny to see how the "Worldwide Leader" pushed Screamin' A to the forefront of their programming, then gradually reduced his role bit by bit until they finally just bounced him.

He went from having his own show, to being a panelist on the NBA show, to appearing maybe twice in hours of NBA draft coverage.

Why'd they even hire him in the first place? He's not talented or insightful.

Oh, wait, he knows the "word on the street"... meaning he's a gossip columnist. Now I know why ESPN hired him...

I SAY, THE MAN WILL DRINK HIMSELF INTO OBLIVION!
My best Stephen A. Smith impression.
annoying.

Wonder who would win a Stephen A./Brian Blessed Shout-Off....

2010-03-08 04:43:53 PM
Why do people have a problem with this? I say give him a handle of 151 and strap him to a chair in front of a poker table in Atlantic City, get some popcorn and wait for the inevitable.

TFA: ...he has been banished from casinos in Detroit and Atlantic City, N.J.

Hmmm, Detroit and Atlantic City... Is that a punishment or a reward?

I thought the "casinos" in Detroit were called "7-11". Looks like he's trying to pull a Nicky from the movie "Casino"

we still talkin bout "practice", Allen? try harder next time ...

to being THE most annoying person on the radio, on the most annoying sports network on the radio. And with Colin Cowherd in the mix across the dial on espn, that's a pretty high bar.

At least he has a plan, you know. That's half the battle right there.

2010-03-08 07:26:35 PM
Well, there's a big freaking surprise. That dude should be in prison, not in public, shooting other people baskets.

2010-03-08 07:54:41 PM
smrtone -- Why do you believe Iverson should be in prison? As far as I'm aware, other than a minor bit of craziness early on when he was in Philly, he has kept his nose clean.

2010-03-08 07:59:29 PM
I use to admire Shawn Kemp back when him, Payton, and Schrempf were tearing shiat up. Then I started to admire Iverson for his gaurd skills and being 6 Ft. (my height) and tearing shiat up. I have both their jerseys, the only bball jerseys I own.....I'm doomed.

Here's to Nate Robinson, please don't become an alcoholic with 5+ kids, please don't!

Isn't Stephen Smith the same man that announced last year as big, breaking news that Allen Iverson was retiring? Then a few days later Iverson signed with Philadelphia?

/Nice journalism work there, buddy.

Stephen A. Smith sounds like that friend that you ask to speak as your advocate in small claims court because he says important sounding phrases in a serious tone, then, five minutes in, you realize he has no idea what he's talking about and the judge rules for the plaintiff for $485.

He's such a clown. He's developed such a white-guy serious tone that grates against his obviously hidden-under-the-surface more casual tone (i.e. the one he uses with his friends). Be YOURSELF Stephen A., lose the accent and gain your dignity. Sure, ESPN will drop you, but come on, they're all about sifting through black culture and presenting it to whites in an acceptable way and you should be ashamed to be a part of it.

/didn't know i felt that strongly when i started writing.
