I used to contract with jails for medical services. My record for seeing someone out and re-booked for new infraction: 42 minutes. A couple of hours is pretty common.

I do know that sometimes cops will just follow someone after release just to see what they get up to.

You know, I'm kind of surprised that after being arrested for possession, the police don't return the drugs to the arrestees after they are free to go and then arrest them again for the same crime if they pick up the drugs and leave. I bet that would rack up a lot of requests really quickly.
