Smidget!!! That kitty litter question was mine, and thank you for your advice :)

I'm usually too tired after work/workout/shower/dinner/cleanup to even start thinking about scoopin' poopies, and the SO just really hates it, so we (I mean, III) scoop about once a week....

and it is really, really bad XD

Maybe we should just try scooping twice a day and see how that goes before springin' for those rolling boxes.

Maybe I should invent a cleaning kitty box that doesn't gunk up AND magically turns kitty waste into nice rose-smelling air freshener!

Eric doesn't seem to have any issues getting comfy in his collar either. Still, I'm sure he'll be glad to be rid of it. Monday, I think, if his incision seems to be well-healed.

He certainly shows me his butt enough so that I have no difficulty checking...

Then on Wednesday we shall meet his new vet and complete the deworming and vaccination process.

Got a new litter box too - one with higher sides and a hood that can be partially folded back. akimbotoo, I was considering the uber-deep Rubbermaid one too for a while - now I wish I'd gone to Petsmart tomorrow instead!

Lar Jorgen: quantum_jellyroll: jaynleng: anyone else having problems with fark? Seems they've been horfing up hairballs all day....

I've only been able to get 15-20 minutes total out of it for the whole day.

Edit: It puked on me as I typed this.

Anyone happen to capture the picture (Five Oh Oh) they put up while FARK was down? I didn't think to do it but, it might make for a good caption/shoop.

FARK is working for me right now but it's VERY slow.

This is why I have Abbey's cat box in the bathroom, between the commode and the wall - because if I'm sitting to use the people box, I might as well scoop the cat box. I have a device I bought for about $8 that has a scoop and containment bin; I scoop, place the clumps in the bin (lined with a plastic grocery bag) and replace the scoop/lid. The bag gets removed and taken outdoors every night.

Mine is in the kitchen. A plus for this is you are more motivated to scoop because that's where you cook and eat. I have a covered box with an air filter because we keep it in the kitchen and a swinging overhead door for privacy so the goggie doesn't stare and eat the poopies. We have two kitties, so we scoop in the morning, then sprinkle fresh litter on top, and powder with Arm n Hammer. We scoop into those little scented baby diaper bags. Those things are amazing, and just a couple of bucks for 100. In the evenings, we just scoop again, and we're done. Once a week we dump the litter and sanitize the box. No smell with the baking powder. We use el-cheapo whatever brand was damaged litter from the clearance corner in the Commissary.:-)

Soapbox Alert!!

I raised kitehs for about 10 years...so feel somewhat kwalified to speak here. Had as many as 36 cats and kittens in house at one time!!! Also had 10 litter boxes. Here's what I know about cat poop and boxes:

1. if you want to improve what comes OUT of a cat, improve what goes INTO the cat. Cats are obligate carnivores, which means they have no use whatsoever for grains. They can't digest them hardly at all. (this is one reason for diabetes in cats...grain breaks down to sugar and cat has few insulin producing cells in liver..no break down sugar...blood sugar skyrockets). So the more grain in the cat food, the less it gets digested and the worse the end product is. Iams is the LOWEST grad of cat food I will ever feed. Moving up from there makes a huge improvement in cat box care. Look for total protein in your cat food. Higher is better. Corn is WORST possible grain. Lowest or none is better. FYI: Corn allergy is number two cause of itchy kitty/scruffy coat, behind fleas.

2. I raised Maine Coons. They are huge and are diggers. All my cat boxes were set inside of a 32 gal rubbermaid tote and one of the long sides was cut down with an electric knife to half height. This contains the "overspray" nicely. You can also cut down one of the short sides too. Just beware: watch that a cat can't get "ambushed" in it by another animal or they will break litter box training to avoid being attacked in the box. Double check box placement so they can't be snuck up on or trapped while in it.

3. Cats get coccidia pretty easily. Google it. The main symptom is pudding poop. It is a self limiting disease which means if they stop reinfecting themselves, it will clear up. The easiest way to clear it up is to scoop cat boxes at least once a day and wash with hot soapy water at least once a week. That keeps kitteh from stepping in the pudding and then having to clean it off feet and fur...which is the route of reinfection. Once you have healthy kittehs with tootsie roll poops, you can slide back to every other day at MOST for scooping and monthly sanitizing of boxes.

OFF Soapbox.

I'm glad to see some people here this morning...

I need to call upon the great power of Caturday to help my roomate's kitteh, Tornade (that's French, not a typo :P). Anyways, he's wounded the tip of his tail a couple of weeks ago and he's been very nervous about it ever since. He gets what looks like shivers starting from his back legs, up his tail, then he claws at the scab.

It was relatively benign at first, but the last two days it's been getting much worse. Now when he gets his "shivers" he starts to growl and hiss at his tail, then furiously attacks it, to the point where he splatters blood on the wall. We try to stop him and care for him as much as we can, but now he sneaks around the house or wait when there's nobody home to do it. The last inch of his tail is now matted in blood almost all the time and he's got a couple of nasty scratches and bites on it. We've tried the cone of shame but he can still reach around with his claws. He will rip off any bandages we attempt to put on. The vet thinks it might be a psychological issue, but we want to avoid medication or euthanasia at all costs. This morning, we couldn't even pet his lower back without him hissing at us. Please, we're counting on you guys. I promise I will try to get pictures of the bad boy for next Caturday.
