I liked Happy Feet, but that facial animation is tumbling into the uncanny valley.

2010-03-04 10:38:26 PM
Why do producers pick immature sh*t like this to make, hoping for another LotR?

2010-03-04 11:31:02 PM
I dunno, I don't think it looked too terrible. Much better than a lot of the animated crap American studios other than Pixar put out these days. It's been a long time since there's been a mainstream animated film with a darker tone, ala Secret of Nimh or The Last Unicorn. I'm not completely convinced this will be along those lines, but at least it's a step in the right direction.

Kids are now subjected to crap like Shrek, where burp and fart jokes + dated pop culture references pass for entertainment. I hope this one can actually do well, and then producers will maybe green light more films for kids that don't cater to the lowest common denominator.

Don't tempt fate, subby.

We could still end up getting Old Dogs II: New Tricks.

2010-03-04 11:41:29 PM
How do they put the helmets on? they have no thumbs.

2010-03-04 11:45:08 PM
If they're gonna do that, I think we really need to see Adolescent Radioactive Black Belt Hamsters.

Or Pre Teen Dirty Gene Kung-Fu Kangaroos.

2010-03-04 11:48:20 PM
Hey, at least it's not a retread of some low-rent 70s or 80s cult movie.

2010-03-05 12:03:50 AM
Did they move Australia to Hollywood?

2010-03-05 12:39:58 AM

It's been 8 whole posts and no one has posted a certain snowy owl?

RLY?

At least it's neither "edgy" nor a remake.

So it's got that going for it.

/Which is nice.

I was expecting a Clash of the Titans thread.

The message of "Happy Feet" was to stop overfishing.

Is the message of this movie that spotted owls shouldn't be on the Endangered Species List because they can defend themselves?

Watching the trailer made me want to masterbate. What's with that?

2010-03-05 01:52:41 AM
It's like Watership Down for retards. It should be a big hit.

2010-03-05 01:57:16 AM
From 300 to Watchmen to.....this?

Whatever pays the bills, I guess.

2010-03-05 02:01:09 AM
Looks decent to me. I wish they'd do more traditional animation, kind of tired of cgi epics, but still looks okay.

AgnosticAngles: Watching the trailer made me want to masterbate. What's with that?

That depends...

Is this your normal reaction to movie trailers? Because if so, showing up to the movies early must be a biatch for you.

I guess I am starting to understand more and more why I am banned from my local theatre.

Cyborg Pirate Ninja Jesus: No Mercy

2010-03-05 02:29:06 AM
I really don't give a hoot about this film.

2010-03-05 02:34:36 AM
Wow, Hollywood must be lower than a Bangkok hooker in the sewer then, because I've thought they were in the toilet for years now.

2010-03-05 02:35:56 AM
So there's lots of flying and crappy music?

2010-03-05 02:50:14 AM
If they're not fighting an evil army of mechanized Bubo's then forget it.

Your name isn't Paul, is it?

No

So it's Finding Nemo in the sky?

Riiiight.... I think I'll skip this one.

2010-03-05 03:29:26 AM
Hey--at least the soundtrack didn't break down to accommodate some rap.

2010-03-05 03:29:57 AM
That looks great. I'm not going to see it.

Last I had heard talk about that movie, everyone was saying Happy Feet's message was about gays being people too or something to that effect...

Sounds like your typical semi-autistic Rice University student.

2010-03-05 04:01:17 AM
More 3D? Really? Jesus.

2010-03-05 05:00:17 AM
The flying looks great, much like the flight sequences in Avatar were the best part. It looks to be based on some "bestselling" series of books I've never heard of, but it's not Redwall.

2010-03-05 05:08:13 AM
After watching the trailer, my interest in the story borders on zero.

"They are sworn to protect the innocent and vanquish evil" - Jesus, how cliche can you get?

Technically very nice, though. Uncanny valley is right, it's very odd seeing realistic owls articulating words.

2010-03-05 06:07:18 AM
They should make a photorealistic version of the Plague Dogs. That would cheer everybody up!

swahnhennessy: So there's lots of flying and crappy music?

Plus cheesy dialog with horrible accents.

2010-03-05 07:26:11 AM
Some of the shots were quite nice, however that horrible, modern-disneyesque, quasi inspirational song made me want to hurt someone.

Came here for Hollis Mason/Dan Dreiberg. What, do I have to do everything for you people?

Subby, if you're under the age of 50, go back and watch your favorite movie from when you were a kid. And when you realize how absolutely awful it is, you will realize that A) Hollywood's been the same for a long time and B) it doesn't matter to kids anyway - they'll love the adventure despite the flaws

2010-03-05 08:52:19 AM
Looked like a pretty epic kids flick to me. Heck might have to check it out myself actually.

2010-03-05 08:55:41 AM
Lots of funny snark in this thread.

It's being made in Australia, so...correct.

I dunno, Neverending Story and Secret of Nimh are holding up pretty well for me.

The sequels to both of those then prove the above are exceptions to the rule. It's a wash.

If you need owls in helmets to defeat the greatest evils of the land, I doubt the evils of the land are that big a deal.

2010-03-05 09:22:07 AM
Whatever music genre that was (auto-tune emo?), I'm really really sick of it. Next big thing: carving owls on ones wrists.

2010-03-05 10:05:54 AM
If it were a click away I'd watch it with my coffee right now anyway

2010-03-05 10:10:52 AM
It looks ok to me. Not something I'd go out of my way to see but it doesn't look horrible.

/Fark hates everything

2010-03-05 10:11:15 AM
fairly good trailer... way too much flap over it tho.
