FTFA" " A roommate later found Barrasa's body in the garage - long after the therapists and police officer left, according to police reports."

excellent police work.

I know where I'm hiding my murder weapons from now on.

Having now RTFA, I propose a new joke category:
"How many behavioral health therapists does it take...?"

Calling a fark lawyers, if that was a regular "citizen" that found those items would we go to jail for failure to report a crime or a similar charge?

Near the end of the article, it mentions a resolution to notify local authorities when mentally unstable perps are released to an area or halfway house. Privacy be damned, sharing this information should be a part of any parole/probation agreement. We have two transition homes nearby and if there is someone with a history of violence moving in, I want to know. If I can't be told, at least tell someone with a little stopping power.

FTFA: "Magnelli kept the bloody knife to have it tested in a laboratory."

So one of these dimbulbs actually removed the frakkin' murder weapon from the crime scene? TFA doesn't say what she planned to do after the knife had been tested. Likely nothing, since at that point the knife was worthless as evidence. Probably picked it up with her bare hands too. Seems like that would be worth an obstruction charge, but what do I know. Stupid biatch.

I worked for awhile in one of those "halfway house" places. At first, you try to keep your back to a wall and your front near an exit at all times, while being ready to grab your panic alarm.
After awhile, when nothing happens, you relax. Make small talk with the guys when they're going on their weekend passes, asking if they plan on checking out any new flicks, that sort of thing.
Eventually you find yourself in the smoking room watching TV on your break, discussing which is the best crime movie with what you have to remind yourself are a child molester, two burglars, a pimp, a drug dealer and a guy who killed his cousin. And it doesn't bother you.
That's when you know it's time to leave, grasshopper.

evidence they unknowingly stumbled upon at an Upland homicide scene in January

So... they didn't even know they found it? That's means it is still hidden? And, no one know it exists yet, ami`rite?

How dare the cop not search the house without a warrant.

Given that this was a halfway house for parolees, the cops didn't need a warrant. In fact, IIRC if you're on parole the cops can pretty much come over at any time and toss the place, halfway house or no. Not to mention the whole probable-cause thing...
