Give it up. If it weren't for the two that followed him, Reagan would be known as the worst Republican president in history.

So the GOP finally admits they support tripling the deficit, raising taxes and ignoring social issues.

Good to see...

Okay, I dont' want to see Reagan on any money, but Grant did not "win" the Civil War. He just happened to be presiding over the Union Army when Lee decided enough blood had been shed for the "cause" and decided if the Union were going to be all butt-hurt and whiny about it he would just as soon stop fighting.

"I wish you libs would get over George W. Bush already"
"I wish you conservatives would get over Reagan already"

Seriously, it's getting really sad.

Yes, Grant "won" the Civil War (his actual contributions are still the subject of debate) as a general and military leader, not as President. In fact, his presidency was marred by scandals and is considered by some historians to be one of the worst in history. Not that I care that he's on the fifty-dollar bill or want to put Reagan on them. ATMs only dole out twenties, so it's not like many people use them anyway.

I'm kind of bitter about the Civil War- I see no reason why the South should be part of the Union.

FTFA: "Every generation needs its own heroes," McHenry said in a written statement. "One decade into the 21st century, it's time to honor the last great president of the 20th and give President Reagan a place beside Presidents Roosevelt and Kennedy."

S'funny... now they want Reagan to have a place beside Roosevelt. Am I the only one who remembers the Reagan Dime push? They used to think Roosevelt wasn't worthy of the honor of being on currency.

Well, he was a bad actor in addition to being a bad president. He just thought it was the scenery.

Reagan single-handily kicked all the hippies out of California. If it wasn't for him San Francisco would be a haven for bean sprout eating, Prius driving, democrats.

You didn't win, we just decided to stop losing.

Birthplace of jazz, delta blues, rock 'n' roll, some of America's most heralded writers, better food, warmer weather, more attractive women per capita than up north... Yeah, there's a lot to be bitter about.

As I said before, put Reagan on all promissory notes.

2010-03-03 12:14:18 PM
The South was never going to win unless they got the backing of foreign power. The North just had to keep throwing men and resources at them until they lost.

I always like Sherman for Civil War Generals myself.

I don't think I've had a $50 in my hands for 10 years or so. It's either $20s or $100s.

Yes, a man who directed his soldiers to rape women in South Carolina in retribution for starting secession is a hero, indeed.

I laugh every time they try to name something else after Reagan. It is like a man with with a small penis buying larger and larger trucks so he can assuage his feelings of inadequacy.

Plain and simple Ronald Reagan was a traitor to his country. A treasonous bastard who conspired with our enemies, sold them weapons illegally and used the profits to fund men who raped nuns.

Name all the shiat you want after him but he is still roasting in the 9th circle of hell and eventually history will portray him as the villain he truly was.

Abraham Lincoln? The Vampire Hunter? Really?

Reagan wasn't too bad. He was really douchey, but his dottering old man charm made up for it. It was impossible to be mad at the guy. It would be like being mad at grandpa for getting confused that david letterman wasn't merv griffin. I'm just glad his handlers kept him from outlawing pancakes, or making lawrence welk a cabinet member.

I almost put "football superiority" in there as well, but that would sort of dredge up some unfortunate memories of Jimmy the Greek if I were to add it now.

There was no reason to burn everything from the Chattahoochee river to the Atlantic Ocean.

I am not sure if the idea of "total war" is something to remember fondly.

It wasn't rock and roll until Chess records called it that.

Grant might have won the Civil War but that was nothing compared to that time Reagan ripped off his shirt, flexed and the USSR exploded out of sheer amazement.

A college friend of mine -- who's basically an ok guy except for his creepy Reagan fetish -- would absolutely say this doesn't go far enough. He's like Christian Slater in True Romance except he'd say "if I had to fark a guy, I'd fark Reagan."

For him, his dream is to spend his Reagans to own the nicest house on Reagan Way in the Reagan Acres section of Reaganburg, just off Reagan Highway in the heart of Reagan County, with a short commute to his job at www.reagan.ron where he works long days so his children Ronald, Wilson and Reagan can go to Reagan University.

Strangely enough, he is a lifelong registered Democrat. He just thinks that Reagan's sweat cured lupus and his urine was actually made of real gold.

And it took an amendment to the constitution to end slavery in the Northern states. Lincoln's proclamation only affected the states that had seceded from the union.

Not at the time of the Civil War.

I don't think Civil War heroes from EITHER side should be lauded in this manner. Lincoln gets credit for maintaining the Union, but on the front lines, a lot of what both sides did was absolutely despicable. The entire conflict was regrettable.

Giving Grant war hero status for that? Might as well put Lt. William Calley on the 2-dollar bill, take it to Taco Bell, and slaughter your innocent intestines.

Yes at the time of the Civil War. Maryland was a slave state and did not secede from the Union. They were exempt from the Emancipation Proclamation since they were not at war with the Union.

I don't care, but I do want to point out Grant had a very corrupt administration.
