A franchise will not be moved to Hamilton. After Basillie's near-scare, the NHL owners realized they'll get a lot more if they make someone pay a ginormous expansion fee to start a team in the Southern Ontario market currently being bled dry by Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment. Winnipeg, Saskatoon and Quebec City are fair game though.

He has already played for the Thrashers AHL team in Chicago. They are trying to bring someone in that has name recognition since everyone else is traded.

I do like Chelios, but I also completely understood why the Wings decided to not sign him again. I'm not quite sure what the Thrashers have in mind, but let's hope that Chelios is worth whatever they pay him and his age and mileage aren't detriments.

Why the Islanders? NY can't support 2 hockey teams? Didn't the Isles have a dynasty back in the early 80's or something? I don't see them going anywhere.

You're absolutely wrong here. He could easily have a cushy 6 figure front office salary somewhere in the hockey world. He could have gone that route years ago. He'd rather toil down in the AHL to get more minutes and play more than give up playng the game, he supposedly still conditions harder than anyone in hockey. Clearly the guy keeps playing solely for the love of the game. You gotta admire his determination to keep playing, regardless of how much of an asshole he was in the 90s.

I have to agree with Emrom here. I do not think you can call Chelios a sellout if he is willing to put in a great deal of time at the AHL level after a career with 3 stanley cups. If you want to criticize someone, then aim at the following:

Thrashers Ownership and GM who is running a team measurably improved by a past his prime 48 year old.

Thrashers players who cannot hold onto a roster spot when competing against a past his prime 48 year old man.

I would say they should move them temporarily to Kansas or play out of MSG and then tear down and rebuild the current stadium (assuming that stadium size is the only issue and not the location

I think that the Islanders are in a decent enough geographical location that if they start winning again, they will also draw once more. However getting a new stadium has not proven very easy for them.
