That's kinda cool. Amenhotep III was one of the major pharohs, second only to Rameses II when it came to building things. Rameses was fond of taking things Amenhotep built and sticking his name on them. If you don't know who Amenhotep III is, he's the Pharoh right after Hatshepsut, the first female Pharoh.

"The head of Amenhotep III, which alone is about the height of a person"

He must have been quite tall. I thought people back then were shorter.

Head buried in its jammies?

Is that some kind of fancy talk for being uncircumcised?

2010-02-28 07:26:14 PM
This is what the Egyptian Culture Ministry should be doing more of, finding new antiquities instead of bullying foreign museums into returning old ones.

Same goes for Greece and Italy.

No, for you young folks... you see, a long time ago, Steve Martin was funny. He was _really_ funny, because cocaine does that to people. He used to be on this show that was also _really_ funny, mostly because everyone on and around the show used cocaine. Anyway, one night on that show, he sang this song called "King Tut", which was a novelty song because they were parading the corpse of King Tutankahmun around the US at the time, and it was pretty funny (funnier still if you were on cocaine, of course), and one of the lyri...

You know what, nevermind. I've got onions to tie on my belt and quarters to turn into bees.

/wikipedia (pops) is really farkin cool

Um...FAIL.

Thutmose III followed Hatshepsut. Thutmose III was a military genius.

Amenhotep III was Akhenaten's father. Amenhotep III was the son of Thutmose IV, who rediscovered the Sphinx after it had been engulfed by sand.

One thing to consider is that the statue was designed to be looked up at. Thus if the effect of foreshortening is taken into consideration, the chin would appear more pronounced
