The officer said Sampson was yelling and cursing and stomped the flag and took him into custody.

Wait, Sampson took the officer into custody?

Do they not have editors?

Mugato: I'm torn on this. On one hand there's abuse of power but then he did assault six teenage skateboarders.

From the linked article about his arrest, it says the 6 utes were blocking his driveway and refused to move. If that's accurate I'm on his side. I know it's wrong to lay your hands on these little shiatheads but they go out of their way to provoke. At least the ones around my house do.

I'm from a time when you got caught screwing around with your neighbor they would kick you in the ass. If I went home and complained to my dad he would ask why the neighbor did it, once he found out why he would kick me in the ass.

My favorite part is how dude is convinced there's a conspiracy that's out to get him. The CPD is "cooking the books" and refusing to log calls about skateboarders JUST TO GET HIM.

Yeah but this guy sounds like a wackjob, with the flag upside down and everything.

From TFA, just before the comments:

We want our site to be a place where people discuss and debate ideas that foster stronger communities. We built this for you. Please take care of it. Tolerate broad thinking, but take action against obscene or hateful material. Make it a credible and safe place worth preserving and sharing.

Best laugh I've had in a while.

Don't cops usually hate skateboarders?

Maybe it is the perfect collaboration. "Billy Bob", heh.

That's pretty much how I was brought up too. Friend of the family that I occasionally did work for would get on my case if I got too juvenile. His favorite line was, "Your mother gave me permission to beat you."
Thing is, he was telling the truth.
Sorry about the threadjack.

From what I read in TFA, douchebag coins can be handed out to most all of the participants involved.

This guy sounds like a wreck.

How much of an a-hole do you have to be for the police to sideagainst you with a group of skateboarders?

2010-02-28 01:11:36 PM
The officer in question returned and an argument ensued. The officer said Sampson was yelling and cursing and stomped the flag, and the officer then took him into custody

Waitaminute, have we found the one city in the country that will arrest you for defiling the American flag?

2010-02-28 01:11:59 PM
Yeah, I'm inclined to believe this guy is a bit of a nut. The flying the flag upside down thing is pretty sad. This guy is a bit too old to be crying wolf.

2010-02-28 01:14:02 PM
From the article about the original incident, "After the statements were reviewed and the investigation concluded, it was determined that Sampson initiated the conflict, including "intentionally striking [one of the juveniles] in the face with the heel of his palm, causing a minor laceration to [his] right lower lip," and "grabbing [another boy's] jacket (which was torn in the process, the report states), preventing him from leaving the area."

I bet the guy's got a REALLY HIGH PITCHED VOICE when he becomes hysterical.

I've dealt with skateboarders at a C-Store where I worked, they're nothing but punks. Destroying property, damaging curbs from where they jump off from, scraping paint sliding on the sides of the curbs.

When I point and tell them of the sign "NO SKATEBOARDING ON THE PREMISES" they ignore it, flip me off and I end up calling the cops.

They even threaten to harm me with their skateboards. Skateboard is a weapon and every kid that has one should be taken away from them.

I see them high or drunk all the time when skateboarding.

Every school should have prison bars and armed guards. The kids are outta control and need to be leashed 24/7.

2010-02-28 01:19:17 PM
Also for the original article, "Sampson admitted, however, his 15-year-old son hangs out with the boys against his wishes.

He got beat up by his son's friends.

You lost points with the prison bars and armed guards.

I like that the guy's own son hangs with the skaters, against his wishes. If this guy can't even control a 15 year old, how does he expect to run a city? And I'm guessing his boy probably has a few 'battery by touch' stories he could tell.

2010-02-28 01:46:32 PM
FTA: Alan Lee Sampson, 54, was charged with battery last week following an altercation with six teenage boys.

The dude was acting like a senior citizen with an inflated opinion of his self-worth. And he's only 54. Shiat, they weren't even on his lawn.

If they really were blocking his driveway and wouldn't move, he should have called the cops period. Them being asshats doesn't necessitate elevating the situation to assault and battery, aggravated battery, and/or worse. Bet they'd have been gone by the time the cops showed up.

2010-02-28 02:02:27 PM
I'm with the guy all the way. Anyone here who has dealt with shiathead kids, especially skateboarders, and has dealt with douchbag cops will agree. Taking matters into your own hands is the only way to deal with kids being dicks. It's not a matter for police because they will overreact and shoot the kid or taser him, or they'll arrest you for something.

There's no need to be a coward and call the police because kids are own your lawn, be an old man and yell at them to get off your lawn like all the other old people. The police rarely help in matters like this.

If this guy doesn't win the election he should move, cause these kids can do whatever they want to him now and the police won't help him. So he'll have to take matters into his own hands and they can call the cops and let them abuse him nice and legally.

Anybody who wishes to move to the "Emerald Coast" should wisely read this article before making a decision. It shows perfectly how the cops and politicians behave in this area. Basically, always remember that this area is called "The Redneck Riviera" for a valid reason.

Yeah picking a fight with half a dozen people 1/3 your age who all have something in hand to use as an improvised weapon, and probably poor judgment and impulse control, is a really bright idea.

The first time the old man lays a hand on one of them, the rest will will think "now I can legally break this deck over this asshole's skull because its self defense!".

Problem is: It's not accurate.

One of the stories states that EVERY witness EXCEPT Sampson and his daughter dispute the Sampsons version.

I came from a time when kids playing in the streets was not a reason for some old fark to be a dick.

I feel sorry for every adult in this thread who has had a bad experience concerning skateboarders. The vast majority of skateboarders I know are some of the most mellow, don't wanna hurt anybody, kind of people I've ever known. Granted, I've only known college-age 'boarders (my hometown was so small that we didn't have that many paved sidewalks, and really only the main roads were paved, so it wasn't a very skate-friendly place), so maybe high school 'boarders are as bad as you all make out, I don't know. Just don't assume they're all punks; there are good 'boarders too.

And after reading TFA, the man sounds like a sad, drippy douchebag. Flying his flag upside down because he was having emotional distress? If he's 54 and ex-military, could he be suffering from some sort of PTSD that's manifesting itself as a deep distrust of the police and authority institutions in general? It would make sense for why he's running for office, so that he can keep an eye on things and satiate his paranoia.

/I have been watching WAY too many crime dramas that deal with the mentally unbalanced

But one question: why all this hostility directed towards skateboarders? Of course it could just be doughty middle-age being jealous of somewhat less doughty youth, but I don't think so. I tell you, it all seems very queer to me...

Occupied residential private property is alot different than a schoolyard or industrial park on weekends. .

Like I said: Everybody knows the rules, and mostly abides by them. If the cops a dick, he writes the ticket. I pay mine, but that's just me. I have a friend who has all of his in a frame. There must be 30 of them, from 5 different states.

None of that applies here anyway: They were skating in the STREET, not in his driveway.
