What else is there to do in Iowa besides drugs? I know Jesus saves, but he can't make you trip balls

And, according to statistics from the Johnson County Multi-Agency Drug Task Force, there are drugs in Iowa City that officers across the state have yet to encounter.

Aren't these the same people who said they caught a kid with a gram of weed worth $1,000?

From TFA: "Another number that jumps out from the task force's 2009 statistics is 100,000 plus, indicating the number of wild marijuana plants the team destroyed in 2009. All of those plants were destroyed in one "field" and was one of the largest wild grows ever discovered, Blomgren said.

"It was unlike anything any of us had seen," he said, estimating some plants were 12' tall. "Some of them were like trees."

However, Blomgren said the marijuana -- "good old fashioned Iowa ditch weed" -- was not intentionally grown."

So it was wild hemp, which is not a drug but just looks like one. They're using "100,000 plants" to pad their numbers and justify their existence. What a farking waste of tax money.

Typical prohibitionist propaganda.

TFA doesn't say what street corner to visit.... it names an entire city and an entire county. That doesn't mean anything. It would be fail if he said see so on so on such and such a corner.

fail tag just barely trumps the dumbass tag on this one.

Now, I've never grown the stuff but it is my understanding that a plant that size isn't producing anything even remotely smokeable. Big surprise there, they tore up a bunch of foliage and make it sound like they just nabbed Escobar.

DMT "lab" my ass. What they caught was a some 20-something stoner with a big glass jar, some paint thinner, and rootbark.

Extracting DMT is easier than finding a weed dealer in college.

Without looking at the article I immediately thought Iowa City. Go figure. A Big 10 college town with 50% of the students from the Chicago area. When I lived there the marching band would play "Cocaine" by Eric Clapton at every football game. Then someone decided that was not a good idea and told them to stop doing that.

You're right, submittard, convincing readers with evidence that hits home is a terrible premise.

When it comes to drugs, if you can smoke, snort, shoot up or simply swallow it, chances are you can find it right here in Johnson County.

Nicely done. Shoot, swallow and Johnson all in the same sentence.

2010-02-27 11:22:25 PM
For instance, on March 27, 2009, an investigation led the task force to a residence in Iowa City. Inside, officers found what appeared to be some sort of active lab, but they had no idea what the manufacturer was trying to produce.
"We were absolutely stumped," Blomgren said. "We had never seen anything like that."

We don't know what it is, so it must be illegal? Is there a paragraph missing here or is this just a recent Supreme Court ruling?

Total time: an hour of work, a day or two of waiting. If you can't put in that much effort, you're probably better off not having it.

If it takes a day or two of waiting to score pot on a college campus, you are doing it wrong. Really wrong.

/Also, why would a "noman tek" article not be "kosher" on this site?

I fail to see the fail here. The newspaper is simply observing that drug cops are incapable of controlling this region. What are they supposed to do, ignore it?

I've lived in Iowa most of my life, and Iowa City has been a great place to get drugs for the last 30 years. A student body made up of kids studying to be doctors, pharmacists, and writers. Surprise.

Iowa---it's not ALL about the meth

When I lived there I was friends with a chemistry grad. student who made LSD and XTC in his apartment. He was expelled from Northwestern as an undergrad due to his crack addiction. Iowa it is then! Meth. wasn't really big when I lived there, but I am old.

Des Moines was meth central back in the early 90's when I lived there. I'm sure that hasn't changed. At the time I'd bet Mason City was a close second

I started third grade when we moved there; I was more than happy to leave after graduating high school. It's a shame how much the city's declined over the years.
