We're in the process of collecting all the haoles and getting them out of Hawaii.

We'll be returning Hawaii to the Hawaiians.

Have fun with it for the next few hours!!

Yep, the shuttle just landed... they dropped off the "science payload" at the space station!

Warnings are local, Advisories are international.

If there is an Advisory is issued, take it as gospel and get the fark out.

It's God's punishment for Hawaii having mandatory employer-provided health care.

I was lightly scanning the earthquake thread (with a brazillion posts) and they were mentioning a 130 ft wave and some island. Anyone know what this is?

Juan Fernandez islands. There was reports, according to CNN, of a 40 meter wave hitting those islands. Unconfirmed as of now, AFAIK.

2010-02-27 08:28:22 AM
I have a friend who lives there, and I'm trying to alert her. Hopefully she watches the TV this morning so she's aware of it, or at least reads my message. I wonder how big the wave will be at shore height. A 10 foot wave underwater can be fairly large when it hits land.

I live so far inland of the beaches here in Los Angeles, that they woould need to drop Montana into the ocean with a helecopter before I get wet.

Will the last person to leave the islands scoop up some Kona coffee for me? Thx.

Remember, if the ocean starts to recede abnormally, don't walk towards it to get a better look...

Thank you. I'm trying to count on my fingers and toes to see what time EST this story was posted. It says no casualties but so far I've read over 78.

It's times like this that I regret being able to read conversational nerd. Just enough to get by on Fark but not enough to read y'alls perty colored graphs.

Will someone in here be my special translation buddy? Being a Fark exchange student is a scary lonely place.

The last I heard, this was only being reported by CNN, an organization (as someone brilliantly pointed out in the other thread) that reported the Space Shuttle Columbia as traveling 18 times the speed of light when it broke up.

Not sure I'm going to trust them with the 130 ft. wave report.

Essentially we're waiting now to see what kind of waves will hit Hawaii and possibly California. That's all I've been able to gather.

From the warning text..

A TSUNAMI HAS BEEN GENERATED THAT COULD CAUSE DAMAGE ALONG
COASTLINES OF ALL ISLANDS IN THE STATE OF HAWAII. URGENT ACTION
SHOULD BE TAKEN TO PROTECT LIVES AND PROPERTY.

Hawaiian farkers on the beach might want to take heed, NOAA is usually a bit understated so URGENT ACTION might be a hint to start phoning a few friends who are still sleeping and find a nice patio on high ground to brunch at, don't forget you cameras!
