I guess you people in Jersey really like your smoked ham, huh ?

2003-04-21 04:32:27 PM
I probably would have gone with the Dumbass tag.

2003-04-21 04:46:07 PM
Can't anybody pull off a decent robbery anymore?

2003-04-21 04:46:48 PM
Mmmmm steamed hams.

2003-04-21 04:47:30 PM
Ooooh, bad luck for the robbers. Couldn't they have picked an easy store to rob, like a 7-11 or something?

2003-04-21 04:48:05 PM
At least they were not so stupid as to try to rob a donut store.

I would have immediately shot the 3 customers and then shot at random through the door where the cops were until all of them were dead.

Next, I would have grabbed the money out of the register and left in a quiet calm.

Stupid criminals, don't carry a gun unless you are going to use it.

Newark, NJ... 'nough said.

I like the story of some (now deceased) moron who tried to rob a gun store with a knife

I thought the article said they tried to fire, but it jammed.

ISeeYourDisease "Stupid criminals, don't carry a gun unless you are going to use it."

The entire reason that criminals carry guns is so that they don't have to use them. If they have a gun and so does the clerk, the very presence of a gun can sometimes be enough to stop them from shooting. Then again, if NO ONE had guns, then there wouldn't be any shooting at all!

Grabbed him by the THROAT! Woo! Now that is police brutality.

Justified, but man. Good stuff.

I should have said "unless you are prepared to use it".

They should have used the gun as soon as they lost control of the situation.

I though criminals carried guns to intimidate?

If no one had guns, they people would just get knifed or suffer some other fate.

"Everybody take it easy! I'll take a Pastrami on Rye and whatever cash you have in the register....oh, are those Funyons?"

Gun's don't kill people, the small pieces of lead moving at over three-hundred miles per hour kill people.

That cop was lucky that gun jammed, a 9 mm submachine gun would have sprayed his organs all over the alley.

2003-04-21 05:01:23 PM
If they had been killed in the attempt, I'd be proud to nominate them for a Darwin Award.

2003-04-21 05:01:58 PM
See their names? They are clearly terrorists.

Is this not IRONIC?

I think such a tag is justified.

Newark, no wonder. What a shiathole.

I don't know about the rest of you, but if someone tried to shoot my with a gun, and it jammed, I'd smile, then unload my clip in him. If you're prepared to take my life, be prepared when I give you the same favor.

Rincewind:

You can't simply take everyone's guns away. Are you suggesting that this criminal got a 9mm sub-machine gun through legal means? Probably not.

Even if there were absolutely no guns in existance, would that make things better? Knife robberies are usually a lot nastier than gun robberies. People are scared of guns, but won't just run away from some guy with a knife as easily.

Take, for instance, the incident in New York where the bouncer was stabbed buy the guy who wouldn't stop smoking. That was probably because Mr. Big Bad Bouncer just wasn't scared of a little Asian man with a knife, so he got stabbed in the leg and bled to death. If the smoker just pulled out a gun and put it in the bouncer's face, he would've backed off immediately and would probably be alive today.

Now I'm being an idiot for starting a gun debate, but I'm really just saying it's pointless for ANOTHER random clueless person to blame violence on guns.

Now, I wonder what sentence this guy will get, seeing as he actually tried to machine-gun a cop down but his gun jammed.

Now, notice that these people were charged with "Attempting to shoot a police officer." If you want to start a real flame, how about the fact that it's a worse crime to shoot a cop than to shoot someone else? I suppose the lives of cops are just worth more than the lives of other people. I'd love to see the logic behind this...

"Well, people are shooting cops. How do we get people to stop shooting cops? Let's make really harsh penalties for cop killers!"

So, if these tougher penalties can protect cops, wouldn't overall tougher shooting/murder/attempted murder penalties protect everybody?

That's the problem with these damn cheap automatics nowadays... when you need to blow somebodies brains out they decide to jam up and you get nicked.

Eek. Started entirely too many sentences with "now".

Just goes to show you... People are stoopid.

A 9mm automatic to rob a deli? I know a sandwich in NY is something like 10 bucks, but they wouldn't have that much money. If you have that kind of firepower, you should be thinking a little more upscale, like a bank. Or something.

And my favorite part is this understated gem: "The detective grabbed Mohammad around the throat and, with the help of Officer Mark Conroy, who was in the area on a separate investigation, was able to subdue him."

"Able to subdue him". More like this guy is going to be walking funny for a while. He's lucky he'll still be able to eat solid food.

2003-04-21 05:22:59 PM
Did anyone else notice that almost all the cops in the area were there investigating other crimes? Looks to me like it might be hard to find a business the hasn't
been robbed recently.

"Get your stinking paws off me, you damned dirty ape!"

BadBatsuMaru: "but I'm really just saying it's pointless for ANOTHER random clueless person to blame violence on guns."

I'm not blaming violence on guns, I'm just saying that violence wouldn't be so deadly if there were stricter gun control laws. In no way do I think that violence is a result of having a gun. That's ridiculous, like saying that owning a baseball bat makes you want to join the Mafia and whack people with it.
All I'm saying is that if a gun is involved in a crime, that chances that someone will be killed will go up.

EatHam how dare you see their names. You are shining a "dark light" on the religion of peace.

Racist crusading bigot.

Small pieces of lead moving at over three-hundred miles per hour don't kill people. Massive blood loss and/or destruction to bones and internal organs kills people.

Alright! That's two Jersey City stories on Fark in the past three days. I love this place.

I am truely surprised that they lived through the ordeal. (The suspects that is). With arabic names I am surprised that the police didn't just start blasting when they saw their nationality. They could justify it with "I thought they were terrorists that were hungry". Might even get away with it. They showed restraint showing that they aren't "profiling". Me, I would have started blasting away. Fark 'em. Guess it's a good thing I'm not a cop. (In their case)

2003-04-22 06:27:57 AM
Three hundred miles per hour? It'd be nice if bullets moved that slow, they wouldn't hurt as much.

All I'm saying is that if a gun is involved in a crime, that chances that someone will be killed will go up.

Perhaps. But what does that have to do with gun control laws?
If someone is committing a crime - like, say, robbbing a deli - I'm guessing that their respect for the law lies somewhere between Jacktown and Squatsville. What makes you think that someone who is willing to threaten others with violence in order to pilfer their hard earned cash gives a damn about some gun control laws? They're willing to do something illegal AND unethical, so why on earth would they care about a lesser law that doesn't even have ethical implications (ownership of a gun not being in itself unethical)?

2003-04-22 06:15:15 PM
The robbers apparently did not see the Krispy Kreme next door.
