towatchoverme: dwh1963: towatchoverme: dwh1963: That's the problem with leftists: They're completely ignorant of both history and human nature.

Not true.

For instance, I think we all realized you're an ass after just a single, solitary post.

Really? Do you dispute my analysis? Be specific. How are you going to get the entire world to come to peace?

Why you gotta pound on someone who is obviously just some noodle-headed hippie moran as though he's somehow emblematic of "all leftists?"

I'm slightly to the left of Nancy Pelosi, and i have an MA in history and, i promise you, a VERY realistic sense of human nature.

Besides ... wasn't FDR a Democrat? Churchill was both left and right at various points in his career. Wouldn't call those guys peaceniks and appeasers.

How about we just agree that idiots come in all shapes and sizes and they're always just that: idiots.

No argument there.

Not sure why you can't scroll up, but here

Thanks, zab. I saw it.. just didn't know it was him. Gotta admit, it does explain a lot...

Story time: I am Canadian and some years ago I went on an exercise in the States. On our way driving back, my buddy remarked that by and large, Americans were supportive of their servicemen/women, but in Canada we were largely held in open contempt.

We were driving back north, still in the States, and a car full of American civilians went by us and waved, shouting things like "Good job, Canucks" and so forth. Immediately we were across the border, a car full of Canadians flipped us off, swore at us and called us "baby killers" and so on.

My buddy and others in the convoy were pretty pissed off, but I told them that this incident was just one more indication that we and others were doing our job.

/Proud of the time I served.
//Good headline, Smitty.

Thank you for your service. The Canadians have done good work in the WoT.

Jakevol2: It's hillarious how easy it is to manipulate a bunch of kneejerk reactionaries. I just have to challenge your world view a tiny bit and the spittle starts flying.

I am ammused by all of your impotent rage.

Fail! It is not that you are challenging our world view at all. It is that you are being a douchebag. HUGE farking difference between the two of them, and the fact that you cannot see it makes you a retarded douchebag.

Jakevol2: dwh1963: "I, (NAME), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God." That's the oath I swore. I don't see anything in there about fighting only leftist-approved military actions. Your butthurt over wars you disagree with is immaterial.

BLAH BLAH BLAH

Wow! You sure did show him!

glenlivid: ps: I always hear the "baby killer" story, but in the 43 years I've been alive I have never once heard anyone call anyone else a baby killer. Pretty sure that whole thing is an urban myth.

Yeah, not so much (new window).

Jakevol2: yeah sure the UCMJ exists, but if a soldier or sailor is well liked he often gets little more than a slap on the wrist when he infracts against it. Every single female service person I knew when I was in the service had been date raped by a male service man. When these females tried to file complaints against their attackers their superior officers told these women that if they continued with their complain, charges would be filed against these women for fraternization and conduct unbecoming.

Citation needed on favoritism.

And one or two examples do not represent the whole, because I know about a dozen women in the military who have never had any problems, and have certainly never been date-raped.

so that is how it really is in the military. It's still an old boys club with a death and rape culture attached to it.

I'm sure you've got facts to back up that assertion, no? And that you can demonstrate that the prevalence of rape is higher per capita in the civilian vs military arena?

Something from within the last year or so would be good.

when you start providing facts is when I will.

No, you won't.

Comparing Military and Civilian Rape Rates.
To place military rape rates in context, it is valuable to compare them with civilian rates. Comparisons of the crime rates of civilian and military populations during peacetime periods in 1986-92 reveal that contemporary peacetime rates of rape by American military personnel are actually lower (controlling for age and gender) than civilian rates. However, the data also indicate that peacetime military rape rates are diminished far less from civilian rates than are military rates for other violent offenses. This "rape differential" is also reflected in the World War II data: U.S. Army rape rates in Europe climbed to several times the U.S. civilian rates for that period, while military rates for other violent crimes were roughly equivalent to civilian rates. Thus, in both contexts studied, a rape differential exists: the ratio of military rape rates to civilian rape rates is substantially larger than the ratio of military rates to civilian rates for other violent crimes.

Ah yes, a variation on the "go look it up yourself" argument, proof positive that you are full of shiatt.

YOU made the claim about rape in the military therefore the onus is on YOU to provide proof to back up your claim.

Urinal Gum: This man is the best person to ever live. I would be lucky if a man half as great as him would shiat in my hollowed out eye sockets.

John Wayne said the same thing when they were working together on "The Green Berets." The good Colonel obliged him... nine months later, a fully-grown Chuck Norris emerged, leaving a cancerous crater within The Duke's poor, addled body.

The only other time he tried to take pity on some crack whore. The end result was a mildly literate, fat loser who failed in the Coast Guard and has carried a chip on his shoulder about military folks ever since... "before it became an eight-week self-esteem camp," indeed.

dwh1963: No butthurt on my part. I know what my oath entails and to whom it applies. It's far more complex and meaningful than your simplistic protest-sign slogans.

I'll ask you the same question that I asked Jake: What have you ever sacrificed for something larger than yourself?

I do a lot of charitable work, if that's what you mean. I don't owe you any specifics, especially if you're going to paint me as a liberal/commie/hippie...and yourself as some kind of noble freedom fighter.

And since my initial comment that you misunderstood was "war is a racket", I'll just leave you with this: The man who said war is a racket was a retired Marine Major General (and medal of honor winner). He was the first high ranking military official to step forward and identify modern war as a tool for big business...not freedom:

"I spent 33 years and four months in active military service and during that period I spent most of my time as a high class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism. I helped make Mexico and especially Tampico safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefit of Wall Street. I helped purify Nicaragua for the International Banking House of Brown Brothers in 1902-1912. I brought light to the Dominican Republic for the American sugar interests in 1916. I helped make Honduras right for the American fruit companies in 1903. In China in 1927 I helped see to it that Standard Oil went on its way unmolested. Looking back on it, I might have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on three continents."

Had he seen the open war-profiteering, fraud and abuse that has taken place since his time, he would have been absolutely disgusted.

As George W. Bush said it best: "Money trumps peace".

Cool. You found a military man you you'll listen to. So that brings the total up to...one.

Oh, and way to take Bush's comment out of context. He was talking about POS Europeans unwilling to do the right thing because it would hurt their companies' profits. You know, exactly the same reason they voted against the invasion of Iraq.

Occam's Nailfile: Jakevol2: what I was expressing was true sentiment.

Just looked at your profile.

You won't find me swelling with pride for anyone in the military for any reason ever.

Nor would we find you without an open box of Suzy-Qs nearby.

Nor would we find you in the company of an even partially sober woman.

Nor would we find you successfully completing a job application.

I could go on, but to be honest, you strike me as the kind of man that would take their internet anger out on their grandmother, whose basement you live in, and withhold a few meals from her out of spite for your lot in this world. Looking at you, it's clear life has not been kind to you, and you have little to look forward to. So I won't provoke you further. Rather, I'll suggest that you find SOMEONE you can look up to as a hero, and try to emulate them. Maybe you will then gain some character and not die bitter and alone, listening to Sammy Hagar, wallowing in self-pity and Krispy Kremes.

all I am going to point out is your HERO as the topic of this thread was dropped hours ago. How soon you forget about someone you were choking up about at the start in return to go after someone whose opinion you did not like. So much for feeling that pride in an "honorable" man. You would rather act with dishonor in his shadow to defend your pride...over someone you have never met and who would not give you the time of day if you had.
