Hero tag is deserved here. He lived to 70 because it took that long for the reaper to get up the nerve to try for Mr. Howard.

How so? The man seemed to be a walking bullet magnet, nothing heroic about that.. probably a pretty poor soldier if he is that bad at not being hit also 36 years in and only a Colonel? My dad did 2 tours and Vietnam and didn't get hit once.. (Armor one tour and Attached to a South Vietnamese unit as a forward combat advisory the other and member of the 82nd Airborne) he does tell a story about a sniper taking a crack at him. Also when back in Saigon about going to the movies in town with one hand on a 45 tucked into his shirt, and I'm sure there are things that he would rather not discuss.

Jakevol2, THAT is how you troll.

that is a good troll.

what I was expressing was true sentiment. You won't find me swelling with pride for anyone in the military for any reason ever.

Since you seem to be one of those people I'm sure you don't care but you are about the biggest piece of cowardly shiat to dance on someones grave. It doesn't matter whether or not it's a soldier. What's wrong are you too chicken shiat to talk shiat to a living person?

maybe, maybe not. You will never get the chance to find out.

Is this for real? Before you start typing, read up a little first instead of proving what a retard you are. The guy received a battlefield promotion from Master Sgt (E8) to 1st Lt. Think about the time in service needed to make E8... wait you probably can't since only your dad had the balls to be in the service. Finally after all those years enlisted, to get a battlefield commission and earn the rank of Col.

Then try reading all the medals he earned and what he did to get them before running your trap about being a "pretty poor soldier."

Juniper Jupiter: Hey, stupid question here...

He died December 23. They're burying him two months later. Why did it take so long? Is it because it's at the largest National Cemetery?

/Or did it take that long to cremate a guy with steel balls? :D

I have heard rumors that there have been some issues with the administration of Arlington in the last few decades. Something about improper funding and lack of respect by the powers that have been.

he probably got the promotion because as the bullet magnent he was he was standing to close to his Luey and was responsible for getting his LT killed.

Short story. Maybe relevant.

I went to my son's college parent's night tonight. The English teacher talked about her lesson program and about her usual assignments. There were her two major ones, including one that would involve interviews of experiences of the Viet Nam war. The write up by the student would constitute a unique oral history.

That was what she usually assigned. She said she had to change the assignment year. She would let any military experience count because over the past several years have been fewer and fewer folks with actual Viet Nam war experiences.

Where are you going, my little one, little one,
Where are you going, my sonny, my own?
Turn around and you're two, turn around and you're four,
Turn around and you're an old man going out of the door.

RIP COL. Howard.

If you get bored up there, there are a few trolls in the area who could use your attention.

Fading light dims the sight
And a star gems the sky, gleaming bright
From afar drawing nigh,
Falls the night.

Day is done, gone the sun
From the lakes, from the hills, from the run
All is well, safely rest;
God is nigh.

Then goodnight, peaceful night;
Till the light of the dawn shineth bright.
God is near, do not fear,
Friend, goodnight.

Shiat, if a zombie Howard doesn't, I WILL.

Trolling is trolling, but trolling like this? Seriously? The Rockwell scale of hardness now needs to be adjusted to account for the unquestionable, insurmountable might of Col. Howard's balls, and yet a worthless lump of fatass like Jakevol2 is gonna choose this moment as the moment to troll? I swear, Drew and moot might as well be the same person, because I can't even tell the difference between Fark.com and /b/ anymore.

Congratulations, Jakevol2, you are are now a bigger farksock than 1.56*10^5 racist, socially inept tweens lurking on 4chan. I hope you're happy, and if this post ends in doubles, you have cancer. Good luck with that.

I did RTFA. And yes I as in the service 4 years in the USMC .. first gulf war though I didn't get do much since my unit was the last combat ready unit on the west coast... SOC battalion, I carried a 60 so please keep your uninformed opinions to yourself. So what that he was E8.. promotions were fast and furious during Vietnam and battlefield promotions to officer were not exactly rare. (though still not common) The point I was/am trying to make is that when you get in multiple FUBAR occasions in combat then something is wrong with your methodology. (Translation: Sloppy) I'm not detracting from his service which is admirable when anybody decides to serve. In other words the best fighters go in and make the fight as lopsided as possible (the enemy doesn't shoot back because they are already dead) Who would you rather be next to..the guy who has been wounded multiple times on multiple occasions or the guy that does his job without getting himself hurt?
