I guess old whales don't like kids in their tanks.

//wouldn't be surprised if it did that for whales too.

I hear their periods attract bears.

Note to self: Don't go walking in the woods during my period.

So menopause is natures way of congratulating you on surviving years of walking around like a well seasoned steak, huh?

What about Exclamation points? am I safe walking around the woods if I have an ! ?

cuzsis: This is the third time this particular whale (Tilikum) has killed someone...

Nootka 4, Tillikum, & Haida 2 Keltie Byrne February 21, 1991
Sealand of the Pacific, Can
Attack
20 year old Keltie Byrene slipped and fell into the whale pool. She was dragged, screaming across the pool and repeataldy submerged. Other trainers attempted to rescue her, but she eventualy drowned.

Tillikum Unknown Guest Sea World, Fl July 5, 1999 Accident
A dead, naked body was discovered in the early moring, draped over Tillikum, an adult male. The man had hidden in the park after closing, removed his clothing and jumped in with the whale. This was Tillikum's second fatal incident, the first being the 1991 death of Keltie Bryene.

And then today.
"The trainer was explaining different things about the whale..and then the trainer that was down there walked away from the window..and then Telly (the whale) took off really fast in the tank and he came back, shot up in the air, grabbed the trainer by the waist and started thrashing (her) around," Biniak said.

I like the way the article says "Biniak said the whale, named Tilikum, or Telly for short, does not typically have a trainer in its tank because it is too large."

Too large? How about b/c it's KILLED 3 PEOPLE?! Geeze. But I suppose that's not politically correct or something. :rolls eyes:

Obviously, this whale is less safe than the others. But I still contend that research into whale behavior would probably help prevent many of these. For all we know the whales are in "the rut" or something and will smack anything around that gets too close to it.

/still likes whales.

OMG!!!

A friend of ours was in Tokyo for business and was treated to whale for dinner.

He said it was better than steak and wanted it again. At $100 a pound, his japanese host said that if the US would stop protesting the hunting of whales, the price would be more affordable.

Fark Me To Tears: FTFA: Emergency personnel were called to the park around 2 p.m. and found a person dead, according to Orange County Fire Rescue spokesman John Mulhall.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to the theme park after receiving a call that an employee had been attacked and injured in the killer whale tank.

Witness Victoria Biniak said she saw the incident from a viewing area.

"The trainer was explaining different things about the whale..and then the trainer that was down there walked away from the window..and then Telly (the whale) took off really fast in the tank and he came back, shot up in the air, grabbed the trainer by the waist and started thrashing (her) around," Biniak said.

Biniak confirmed that the trainer who was attacked was a woman and the attack was violent enough for her shoe to fly off.

Biniak said the whale, named Tilikum, or Telly for short, does not typically have a trainer in its tank because it is too large.

Tilikum is a nearly 30-year-old, 12,300-pound bull Orca.

Part of the park has been closed, witnesses said.

The sheriff's office is conducting a death investigation at the theme park.

Somewhere near Miami, Carl Hiaasen is furiously scribbling notes for his next book.

Didn't he already cover this in "Native Tongue"?

Claude Ballse: Reading this thread made me wonder where I can buy fuel for a whale oil lamp? I mean I'm not going to buy one if I can't fire the thing up, you know? Can they run on cow lard? You know, if SeaWorld would recycle their animals, I might just have a shot at getting some whale oil as well as a really cool souvenir.

Anyhow, I gotta pee.

I think they'll run on any rendered fat. There is ample fuel, waddling down the aisles of your local Wal Mart.

Only works on older whales. Younger whales don't have a connection between their minds and mouths.

This is weird. Yesterday, or day before, I think there was a pic in a thread of a trainer on the nose of a whale... anyway, I saw a pic and though, "I wonder how many times the whale eats the trainer?"

Freaks me out sometimes. I don't believe in clairvoyance, but damn. I was singing Taking Care of Business in the shower this morning and it was on when I started my car. Yesterday, a song came on that I initially thought was the Cars, but was Bad Company or something... I switched stations and the first song to come on was the Cars song I wanted to hear. Maybe it's because they only play ten different songs on the radio anymore so my chances are one in ten?

It has happened a bit.

What the hell am I talking about?
