Welcome to the 20th century.

2010-02-23 09:48:51 PM
Not sure what the big deal is. I would be happy to be served by a woman while on a submarine.

/spends a lot of time inside submarines

I thought I read somewhere that woman were actually better for submarine-type operations, since they're usually physically smaller and consume fewer resources.

Navy plans to allow women to serve on submarines. Seaman receptacles.

//don't think I'd trust a sub otherwise filled with horny 18-25 year old men
///the potential for it to end up as a full-length bukkake video, with balls touching, just seems too high.

Do they even HAVE sammiches in those things?

In that case they should use midgets. They'd be able to make the submarines half the size.

Don't know about the latest ones but the Los Angeles class ones my husband was on were pretty darn tight. We went back for the decommissioning of one a couple of years back and on the tour I was again struck at how men over 6' could manage to walk around without bashing their head on something. You also couldn't be very wide.

/still have my honorary submariner card

they will soon, now that there'll be someone to make them.

/looking forward to seeing what the pregnancy rate will be

Hmmm.... Who came up with this idea? Just curious. DNRTFA.

This is a repeat from like... Two months ago. Headline was funnier then.

"Navy to let women serve on submarines. Sandwiches, mainly"

Them decks'll need swabbin' fer sure. There'll be seamen everywhere...

Or it could be a sub with an all women crew. The navy does have their image to uphold afterall.

So how do they plan to get a pregnant sailor off those things during a cruise?

Seeing as how pregnancy is rampant in the surface fleet, it's only a matter of time.

2010-02-23 11:50:35 PM
Hmm...submarine banging sessions!

It would be just a matter of time till we hear news about seamen who couldn't hold onto their torpedoes for too long.

Men and women in extremely close quarters with no privacy for 6 months at a time... I bet the JAG lawyers are already gearing up for sexual harassment cases.

I hope I'm wrong.

Lt. Cmdr Dodge: Men, at ease. I'd like to introduce you to the newest member of our crew, Lt. Emily Lake. Emily is part of a pilot program to test the feasibility of women serving on submarines. She's going to be our diving officer.
Stepanek: Can she do a one-and-a-half inward back in the layout position?
[Laughter]
Lt. Cmdr Dodge: All right, look, gentlemen! I know this is an unusual situation. Can't be easy for Lt. Lake here to be thrown into a jungle such as this, and I know it will make things hard on all of us...
[Laughter]
Lt. Cmdr Dodge: Let me re-phrase that. It's going to make things *difficult* on all of us as well. But if we just work together as a team, I'm sure we can handle ourselves...
[Laughter]
Lt. Cmdr Dodge: *Comport* ourselves as professionals. That is all.

They're Sailors.

Honor. Courage. Commitment. They better be adult enough to handle this.

Besides, the military is VERY GOOD at handing out mandatory shots. Mandatory birth control shots for women, anyone?

I wonder how many billions of dollars it's going to cost to make this accommodation? Is this going to compromise our national security. I'm all for women's rights, but there are good reasons why women should not want to be cooped up in a tin can under the sea for months at a time with nothing but sexually frustrated men.

2010-02-23 11:53:57 PM
You smell that, that perfume smell...smells like pregnancy

You seem to think the sailors aren't farking each other silly already.

How delightfully innocent you are.

I used to work on Los Angeles class subs installing new communications equipment, and I'm over 6 feet tall. It was uncomfortable. There's literally nowhere you can stand without being in somebody's way. I was really glad I didn't have to set sail in one of those things.

Honor, Courage, Commitment -- and a bunch of 20something men and women in good physical shape locked up together for long periods of time in cramped quarters.

Submarine service is voluntary. I wonder how many sailors are going to have their spouses/girlfriends demanding that they get out of submarines.

IIRC this was a major issue with having Men/Women serving together in the nuclear missile silos.

Now what is the over/under, in years, on women in the Infantry.

/my guess is at least another 20 years but probably never.
//has no problem with it IF they have to follow the same standards. ie 42, 53, 15:56

Don't worry, both will be very lucky. Wait, I take that back. If it's certainty then you can't technically call it lucky, right?
