Russia vs Canada is going to be a great game to watch, providing NBC doesn't f*ck it up.

They'd have to be interested in airing it first.

It's not like they own the rights to the Stanly Cup Finals either, so why would they want people to get excited about ice hockey?

Yeah, Germany really hasn't played as well as they're capable of so far in this tourney, either. If they bring their "A" game, it won't be easy for Canada.

Just hoping for more matches as high energy as the Canada/U.S. speed fest. No one on the ice was dogging it.

Scott Niedermayer is still a flaming cheap shot penis.

What does this even mean?

NBC has been airing all hockey games, with very very minimal interruption on MSNBC/CNBC.

Hockey has it's own goddamn channel, where NBC is pointedly *not* f*cking it up and people are biatching that they want it on the Broadcast Network?? Why?? So we can hear Bob Costas cut back and forth from hockey to figure skating every 5 minutes?

Christ people, be careful what you wish for. Think a bit.

Settle down, MSNBC will air it on tape delay right after a rerun of Dateline NBC's To Catch a Predator.

My only beef is that I'd like to see the games in HD, but that's a minor problem given how well MSNBC has covered the games. They aren't even going to commercials during the TV timeouts, I love it...

Where do you live? The basic HD package thru Comcast where I'm at comes with all the news channels (and a slew of other cable channels) in HD.

I wasn't exactly pining to see Keith Olbermann in HD, but now I'm pretty stoked to have MSNBC covered in ye olde high def.

Here's what it means:

Having the games for most viewers in standard instead of guaranteed HD.
Having the games aired three hours after the fact in a world where information is instantaneous.
Having commercials that are 30 seconds long during a break in the action that is 10 seconds long.
Having Pierre McGuire farking up the broadcast instead of off somewhere farking goats.
Having intermission and post-game journalists who barely know what a puck is.
Having the game start late (even tape delayed) and making people watch 20 minutes of women's curling.

Since everything is tape-delayed anyway, there's no reason to cut into coverage with other non-live events. 60 million people had to watch MSNBC. That's better ratings than American Idol got that night. NBC could have aired the hockey games on Sunday live, and still done their ice dancing tape-delayed later. Hell, they cut to the end of the US/Canada game because they realized how bad they farked up.

NBC is absolutely farking this up by ignoring common sense and trying to squeeze every penny out of the Olympics.

Some of these people are so farking stupid, it's baffling. Every game of the entire hockey tournament has been broadcast live with limited (or no) interruption.

The mere idea that NBC would blow off the millions of dollars in ad revenue they make in primetime simply to show hockey that the vast majority of people could give two shiats about shows such a fundamental lack of understanding it's not even worth discussing anymore.

Wow, 2004 jokes. Why not bring up the 1960 World Series if you want to talk about ancient history?

The fact remains, a team of Canadian NHL All-Stars beat the Soviets. Trying to compare that to a team of college kids, most of whom never sniffed the NHL, beating them on Olympic ice is absurd.

But whatever, own that podium.

I'm outside of Boston and for some reason I don't get MSNBC in high-definition, yet a friend in another suburb does. I guess maybe I'm not on Comcast's super-duper-high-def plan or something. On the bright side I think I get CNBC in HD so the Canada-Russia game will be good to go...

Because the alternative is the soul crushing realization that more people do, in fact, care about Figure Skating and things that used to be in the X-games than they do about Olympic hockey. I was introduced to hockey over the last year and now I really enjoy it, but I also know that for my share of viewership, there's thousands of middle age women who really do, in fact, want to hear how some Eastern European ate dirt at 5am and sold his body as a sex worker to pay for rink time to do Ice Dancing, or whatever the sob story of the day is.

There's that awesome Canadian inferiority complex we've all grown to love so much. Keep it up and maybe someday people might actually start giving a shiat about Canada.

You also gotta love how saying shiat like "We Canadians are a dignified people unlike you fat rude lazy asshole Americans" every five minutes equates to acting dignified to them. Sounds like a bunch of passive aggressive crybaby bullshiat to me.

Now go ahead and tell me about how the canadians British burned down the White House in 1812. That never gets old. It's got to suck when your proudest moment wasn't even really you. That's like Al Bundy bragging about his dad scoring five touchdowns in one game.

Sports the USA owns the podium own:

- Obesity
- Complacency towards it's own blatantly corrupt government
- Killing for money
- Sticking it's nose into other peoples / nations business
- Being hated on by the rest of the world
- The worst "first world" education and health care system out there
- Driving a car around the same track over and over and over again (NASCAR)
+ alot of other good stuff

Things that come out of your mouth as you see them: ribbing

Things that come out of your mouth to everyone else: typical US blowhard

Back to hockey, I have to give kudos to the US team for capitalizing on it's chances vs Canada. I think both teams will medal, so i'm not overly concerned.

The biggest difference here is that when Canada wins, it focuses on the patriotic aspects of the victory, and thats indicative in how Canada celebrates.

When the US wins, everyone just groans at the prospect of hearing the country blather on about how good they are, while shoving a Big Mac down their gullets.

Explains alot.

Yeah, it's isn't. The USA gets Switzerland/Belarus. Russia is sitting there waiting to see if Canada can manage to win their game against Germany.

And hey, I hope he's right about us facing Russia. Means we're guaranteed no worse than a silver medal, and he'll have four years to cry in his poutine about not getting any medal.

But I guess it won't matter, since someone in Scotland once slapped a rock around on some ice with a tree branch.
