(Des Moines Register)   This little piggy went to market. This little piggy stayed home. This little piggy had roast beef. This little piggy had none. And this little piggy went "wee wee wee" when an eagle carried him away for a delicious meal   (desmoinesregister.com) divider line 68

"if a hawk looks down and they look like rabbits, ive seen hawks get dogs before then just fly away and rip out its throat, hawks dont care.."

no lady the hawk was hungry

A stray cat had kittens in the burn pile in my back field. There has been a hawk just sitting there watching the pile every day this week.

Coincidence?

So, the climate, you say, has been making pigs fly? I see.

Eagles need bacon too. To deny them bacon would be animal cruelty.

I'm glad I don't have to worry about hawks. I just have to worry about raccoons and other things getting into our trash. We've been fined a few times by the city for it. Anti-freeze and marshmallows did the trick.

I do pity the first eagle that tries this when mama pig is just inside the door of the hut.

Eagle vs. piglet = lunch for eagle
Eagle vs. full-grown sow = feathery smudge on the sow.

/Farmer would probably get fined . . .

I saw a video a while back that documented eagles swooping down on young deer, grabbing them by the head, and yanking them off of cliffs. They'd let the fall kill them and chow down.

Animal cruelty cases don't get too far in the wild.

I wonder if the farmer could just set out some fish for the hungry eagles and see if that keeps them off his piglets? At $600 a pig, that's a bargain if it works.

Then again, who'd rather have fish over pork?

economics of Livestock farming:
A piglet is of no $$ value unless ALL the following is true;
1, The piglet is from registered stock with pedigree.
2, The Piglet is intended for breeding stock and not butcher shop.
3, The piglet is free of deformity
AND/ OR
4,The piglet IS for market ,none of the above is valued, the $$ value is equal to auction price daily or Futures priced guarantee MINUS the feed and alloted space to grow to sale weight .
In other words,if its a meat piglet it ain't worth shiat..dollar wise. A piglet may consume 75 cents to 1.00 a day in food. Give the guy a $20 and tell him it's from organic first growth tree fibers. A full grown Hog or a Full Grown Cow or Lamb lost would be news worthy This crap is for the feel good hippy vegans.

2010-02-22 06:34:31 PM
The whole thing could be avoided by feeding the pigs inside. Too complicated for an organic farmer, I guess.

Let's be honest, if there were herds of pig where this grizzlie lived, he'd be eating bacon. He eats fish because that's what's around.

Actually, a pig in the size range described is about worthless. Get them up around 20 pounds or so than they sell for around 40$. If a bird flew off with a pig worth 600$, than that would be very newsworthy.

Hates pigs, love pork.

Whaddya mean, "farking hawks" - hawks are awesome. They are nature, they are beautiful, and they are an important part of the eco-system to keep the rodent population in check. Not so much little yap yap dogs.
