\Lot"ter*y\, n.; pl. Lotteries. [Lot + -ery, as in brewery, bindery.] 1. A scheme for the distribution of prizes by lot or chance; esp., a gaming scheme in which one or more tickets bearing particular numbers draw prizes, and the rest of tickets are blanks. Fig. : An affair of chance.

Our Canadian little brothers are learning from us. If you have problems, sue someone. This guy should never be allowed welfare again.

Damn canadians.

2003-04-19 11:50:11 AM
Why is he going after the full amount? Didn't he have a few $1 or $5 dollar winners out of all those entries?

Come to think about it, he should go after the amount of the jackpot, not the cost of the losing tickets.

This might be an idea how to get poor people to save money. "nsfw"

Can't we just making being dumb a crime?

If a person sues and loses, they should have to pay all of the court costs and the other party's legal expenses. I bet that would cut down on some of this fibrillose bullshiat.

I'm also a firm believer in workfare not welfare. Have these people work on painting the lines for roads, help to pave the roads, cleaning up, do administration, etc. to earn their government assisted livings.

No wait we don't want then shiat might get done and then we the sheeple might get a tax break that won't, arguable, break our backs in the long run.

That happens in Britain. Britain has fewer a$$hat lawsuits. QED.

2003-04-19 12:02:10 PM
That lawsuit is stupid enough to be from California!

But in California, a jury would grant the money.

God, I hope he wins something.

This guy is obviously an idiot, but the truth remains that the lottery is a system that preys on the ignorant and poor, and in some states in the US it's put forward as a way to fund education.

When I was in college that was the conclusion of a econ grad student who did a study on the composition of those that played the lottery: It came down to the fact that the people who played the lottery were almost always those who need the $5/$10/$20/$100 a week they spent on it. I'm not against the lottery pre se, but given that the government is supposed to have the best interests of it's citizens at heart (perhaps a fatal assumption) I think it's a bad racket for the government to be in, and an even WORSE way to fund education.

Lottery: A tax on people who can't do math.

2003-04-19 12:04:41 PM
Raven_1138: Good job on that (very disturbing story, btw).

Literary farkers, now I've seen everything. :-)

2003-04-19 12:05:21 PM
Fark needs a "Quebec" tag for Canada the way it has a "Florida" tag for the US.

2003-04-19 12:05:54 PM
So there was this Jueish fella see.....and every night he prayed to God to let him wind the lottery.
He prayed EVERY NIGHT FOR YEARS that God would just once, let him win the lottery.
So one night after about twenty years......he was praying and God decided to talk to him.
God said...."Benjamin for almost twenty years now I have been hearing you say the same prayer every night.....you know it would help matters if you would just buy a ticket just once."

Only if it's shown beyond a reasonable burdon of proof that the lawsuit was frivolous. How would you like to lose a legitimate complaint and have to pay the other party's legal fees on top of that? The person in the right doesn't always win, you know.

Two Words:

Mandatory Euthanasia.

There should be a general intelligence test. Everyone must write the test. Those who fail the test are 'put to sleep'. There would be much less of a burden on us intelligent, working, tax-paying people if we simply disposed of the less-intelligent in a humane manner.

Stupid Dumb Quedecois who makes me, a French Canadian look bad. I hate you all. Quebecois i mean

2003-04-19 12:22:48 PM
Speaking of lottery, I noticed these multi-million jackpot games where you pick 6 numbers out of 40 have these odds of winning. Now when the prize money goes up several million, the odds of winning changes. Seeing as how there are only 40 numbered balls and you pick 6 no matter how much the jackpot is worth, why would it be harder to win? If 1 person plays or 1 million people play, its still 6 out of 40. Just one of those numbers things I guess. Stupid numbers.

2003-04-19 12:24:31 PM
Duck_man:

Dont you mean everyone should take the test instead of everyone should write it? Looks like you fail...Goodbye!

2003-04-19 12:25:39 PM
95% of lawyers need to be shot.

I blame the dumbass judges and jurors often times also. For awarding large sums of money to idiots with ridiculous lawsuits.

Who else thinks it should be mandatory to IQ test jurors? :P

Yet another reason why we need a Canada tag, such as the one Bmr68 so graciously posted above.

OBB perhaps you need to devote a larger portion of your enormous brain to absorbing dark humor.

What I am getting at there is that if these people were halfway-smart, they would have skills, and therefore be gainfully employed, rather than leeching off of the system and burdening society. If we didn't spend billions keeping these pathetic scumbags alive for no apparent reason, we could put the money into education so that there are no more stupid people. (well, the US would probably spend it invading other countries but hey, whatever floats your boat...)

My tax dollars pay for lazy stupid people to live and I'm tired of it. If a 'blue collar' working, taxpaying person needs, say, some expensive dental work that isn't covered by good-old Government health care, they can't afford to get it so they don't. Then someone on welfare who needs the same thing gets it paid for because they are on welfare.

Who deserves it more? Someone who works, pays taxes and supports the infrastructure or someone who is a career couch-anchoring loser?

It doesn't make any sense that I should support others' laziness.

/rant off

The odds of winning don't win, but the odds of splitting the prize go up drastically with more tickets purchased

2003-04-19 12:28:27 PM
If this happened in SHERBROOKE, Quebec shouldn't it say -

ne chapeau on welfare spends all his money on lottery tickets then sues when he doesn't win

2003-04-19 12:28:55 PM
don't change

2003-04-19 12:30:08 PM
Duck_man- if you hate it so much, why don't you move somewhere else?

2003-04-19 12:30:38 PM
Or perhaps a more acceptable, less extreme solution would be a simple 'stupid-tax'. Much like a traffic violation, if you do something stupid, you pay a fine.

Ok enough farking...back to work. I should have to pay a $50 fine for coming in here.......

2003-04-19 12:32:52 PM
Monroeski - with the exception of a few small things, such as listed above, Canada/US are still some of the best places to live. Doesn't mean we all can't still complain about everything. :)
