In his note, Stack refers to several disputes with the IRS that cost him more than $40,000 and "10 years of my life." He twice started software companies in California that ultimately were suspended by the state's Franchise Tax Board. Stack listed himself as chief executive officer of both.

In 1985, he incorporated Prowess Engineering Inc. in Corona, Calif. In 1994, he failed to file a state tax return and was suspended in 2000 by the tax board. He started Software Systems Service Corp. in Lincoln, Calif., in 1995. That entity was suspended in 2004. Denise Azimi, spokeswoman for the Franchise Tax Board, said Stack did not pay state taxes in 1996 and 2002 - a bill totaling $1,153.

Dude... just pay your damn taxes. What a pathetic thing to throw your life (and potentially other people's lives) away over.

These situations always remind me of the Buck Wheat skits on SNL when he got shot.

Interviewing the shooter's former elementary school teacher:

"Was he a good student?"

"Oh yes. He was always attentive, very polite, and did his homework on time. He was a lovely boy."

"Do you think he was capable of shooting Buck Wheat?"

"Oh yes! Defintely. It's all he talked about. 'One day I'm going to shoot Buck Wheat' he'd say."

Why is this not terrorism? How is his message any different than those left by jihadist martyrs?

Call it what it is: a suicide attack. Or if you are an Israeli or Faux News viewer, the somewhat redundant homicide attack is acceptable...

IgG4: Why is this not terrorism?

I think it is. But with no one to prosecute and no organization to investigate, etc. etc. it's a bit of an academic distinction.

Shouldn't we be waterboarding people to find out if he was involved with others who think the same?

Strange how that only works for some "terrorists" according to the right.

As defined by the Patriot Act, it is.

IgG4: Why is this not terrorism?

Apparently one bozo claimed it wasn't terrorism because Stacks was an American. Same as shooting OB/GYNs and blowing up federal buildings with fertilizer bombs.

You know, terrorism is what non-Judeo-Christian swarthy people do.

I'm of the opinion that the only reason this doesn't happen more frequently is because they keep extending unemployment benefits. Therefore, people can still feed their families. When the unemployment runs out, and people start getting hungry, and can't feed their kids...then, and only then will the pitchforks and torches come into play.

IgG4: Why is this not terrorism?

He wasn't attacking the State. He was attacking a portion of the State. The terrorists of today have a problem with "the West". It isn't the IRS, DMV or any other TLA. It is the USA (a TLA btw). FWIW, the dude said FML, I want to cause pain.

I hate taxes but killing IRS folks isn't a solution. The problem is in Washington. Vote them out, change the laws.

I haven't been watching the news, but are you saying that they are not reporting this as an outrage?

Well, if not here's mine.

Stupid motherfarker should not kill oneself over less money than what it cost to commit suicide.

Get a rope, slit your wrists, whatever, just if you are going to kill yourself over money then be frugal about it. Really, just stick to your convictions, no point in giving the IRS a plane over your dead body when all the IRS wanted was about the amount it would cost to fill the planes fuel tank.

BlorfMaster: because it was one guy, and not a group threatening to do more.

Terrorism doesn't require that.

Are you and I in terror of another IRS place happening tomorrow? No.

He didn't just off an auditor or something. He wanted a big impact that would be widely seen. His intention wasn't to mess up a building, it was to send a message. And that message may inspire more such acts. Whether he's actively leading a group or inspiring copy cats is a relatively moot point.

And no, I don't work for the IRS. But plenty of Americans work for the federal government.

Poor little rich guy.

Well, after a night of drinking, I'm going to go apply for some part time jobs then eat my macaroni and cheese dinner. Maybe I should start thanking God that I haven't been able to make much money in my life.

Take it easy, dude. There is no fixed and set definition of 'terrorism.' Most 'definitions' only state that it is an asymmetric act of violence directed against a civilian-area target intended to attract and maximize media exposure to some sort of message. It is the 'message-sending via asymmetric violence' part that is the hallmark of a 'terrorist' act. Any fear of additional attacks is icing on the cake rather than a core attribute.

I don't see anybody saying he did the right thing, and I do see lots of white Christian folk denouncing it.

While this is terrorism, this is unrelated to religion. Muslim extremists (to which your post obviously refers) commit terrorism in the name of their religion.
