the cassette bots were always some of my favorites, Ravage is frekin' badass.

Man I am a dork?
2003-04-18 11:02:37 PM
Glad someone else appreciates the almighty pink Beastbox.

Speaking o' Transformers... say Matt, where's that Soundwave figure you still owe me eh?
2003-04-18 11:05:29 PM
In the mail, I-Mock, as always! ;)
2003-04-18 11:23:48 PM
Haha, I think there's a better chance of my left nut turning into a pink gorilla/tape hybrid before this Soundwave of yours (that may or may not exist) arrives. :o
2003-04-18 11:56:04 PM
Ravage was definately bad-ass, he was one of the few cheapo-transformers that had actual metal on him. But I had to make RatBat my favorite once he was released.

BTW, I really want to buy the new Laserbeak from Armada. He can turn into a gun/video camera/and bird. But I am not sure I can actually justify spending money on a transformer at my age. :(

2003-04-18 11:58:59 PM
Man, haven't thought about Laserbeak in ages...

/wants his Army of Darkness review...

Shockwave's voice has to be one the best things to have come out the Transformers dynasty. What a cool sound.

With his rational mind and loyal lil' cassette bots, Soundwave should have been the natural choice for leader, not the hotheaded Megatron. When I was a wee lad, I used to think that Soundwave might have been Optimus Prime's long-lost brother.

Perhaps a faint family resemblance? Maybe they share some spare parts?
2003-04-19 12:23:07 AM
erm, I meant "Soundwave's" voice, not "Shockwave." Shockwave was a pompous bag of bolts.
2003-04-19 04:13:55 AM
I hade soundwave and buzzsaw. I agree he had the best voice.

"Eject Eject"

I can still remember it like it was yesterday. I have to go to kazaa now.
2003-04-19 06:40:17 AM
"So you wanna rumble with rumble"

Yeah, I'm a dork too...
2003-04-19 06:47:42 AM
god i lost so many of those casettes in the sandox and overgrown weeds near my house.

does anyone remember those toys that were about casettes sized, but had a rip cord, and had a car or a motorcycle that would shoot out of the actual casette looking thing, which served as the base? i can't remember the name of those things. i would sell my record collection for a set of those. anyone got a link or a name?
2003-04-19 06:53:44 AM
Damn that brings back memories. I've still got my Soundwave and cassettes - I don't know how many times I convinced myself that it could really play music... ...u just had to listen really hard ;-)
2003-04-19 07:05:45 AM
I bet Hasbro could make Soundwave play stuff when different tapes are put in him.
2003-04-19 07:43:16 AM
Laserbeak all the way!!!!

And the dorks have the most fun too...
2003-04-19 07:45:04 AM
i thought the pink gorilla was gonna be that one where you could put one finger in the nose and one in the ear and one in the anus.
2003-04-19 07:49:06 AM

Definitely the coolest voice. Even beats out Leonard Nimoy in the movie.

Someday I hope to actually touch a girl.

Transformers was a good cartoon. I watched it a nice many times when I was a youngin'.

I don't watch cartoons anymore, but I do see a few minutes of them here and there. The newer cartoons appear to be made by complete lunatics. 30 minute dosages of insanity; no wonder kids are shooting eachother in schools.

Kids need to be forced into watching Mr.Rodgers and Sesame Street.
2003-04-19 08:55:04 AM
Everything's gone Pokemon...shame
2003-04-19 09:23:54 AM
You think this is cool, you should have seen the battle in which blaster and soundwave killed each other. It's one of those import episodes japan. It's actully damn creepy. Alot of the characters have different personalitites and voice styles then you remember. Grimlock was constructing engrish sentances and sounded 10x smarter then his U.S. version, despite his new odd accent.

Robot cassette tape you must leave! Yes, ok, I will!

On that note, I need a source of Beast Wars NEO episodes and the newer Armada shows, as far as I'm aware I have any other episode to trade. Transformers, Victory, Headmasters, Masterforce, RiD, Beast Wars, Beast Machines. (im sure im missing some titles in this list, including the one shot episodes and such)

I also have somewhere around 1/3 to 1/2 of the thundercats episodes, if anyone is sitting on those. I was gathering all of them for a birthday present for a friend who loved the show. And once again, I can return the favor.

Andonbray is here all week. Try the veal. You've been a wonderful audience.

With the announcement of the Transformers game coming out on PS2, I foresee even more Transformer hype in the next few months.

I believe the official announcement is goint to be at E3.
2003-04-19 10:08:53 AM
the Transformers movie is badass, there was scene toward where SoundWave fought Blaster, and thier cassetts was beating the shiat out of each other
2003-04-19 10:09:22 AM
Rumble's awesome, so are the most of the episodes before the movie came out. First 2 seasons ruled. Then they went downhill as they tried to market more transformers than they had cartoon episodes to develop character. The worst is when another constructoclone is made... You have 5 robots, all supposed to have their own personality, and yet, don't. Only one I remember was Mix Master, just because he sounded more like a turn table DJ.

I laughed at the Slagfest entry. Slow and Lumbering, with no good qualities to speak of. I normally don't like X-E all that much, but I read this one all the way through.
2003-04-19 10:10:22 AM
BeatWars was badass aswell, best episode was when DinoBot died
2003-04-19 10:11:53 AM
Transformer's game? Man you graduate college, and spend your entire life playing, designing, and programming video games... You'd think someone would go,"Hey man, we need someone who spent their whole life in games to help us out."

It sucks having to code a MMOG all by yourself because no jobs around. Oh well I'll go back to my coding.
2003-04-19 10:14:03 AM
Algert, I'll buy that... I started getting into Beastwars and their bases, right about the time, they changed it.

Transformers armada is gay, and is just trying to capitalize on Pokemon. I haven't been able to watch it for more than a minute without being disgusted and turning it off. But thats Hasbro for you, they go where the money is with absolutely no pride whatsoever. They got the 2600 titles and they sue like wild over anything related to them.
2003-04-19 10:40:53 AM
Beast Wars pwns. They show the CGI cartoon every saturday morning on channel 5 in the UK - watch it! The characters and plots are more likeable and interesting than most BBC "drama comedies"
2003-04-19 11:01:38 AM
Hm...I'm not as sure that these things would make any money if they were re-realeased. It's not that they weren't cool (they were some of my favorites, too), it's just that I'm not sure kids can relate to them. I mean, as a kid, I had a lot of tapes for my boombox, so Soundwave and his spawn were very cool. But most kids now probably wouldn't even know what a cassette tape WAS. Everything's digital now. And making Transformers out of MP3 players, MiniDiscs or CD's would be pointless.

I suppose the pushing-thirty dudes who played with 'em as kids (read: ME) would buy up a few, but that likely wouldn't cover the expense of the re-issue. So, at that point, you're pretty much admitting that you're just going for the nostalgia market as a toy company. Which can be a hard thing to admit to yourself.

Still, no matter what...I'm STILL kicking myself for selling off my complete-in-box Starscream and Soundwave (w/ Buzzsaw) at a rummage sale during early high school. NOT because I let them each go for $2.50 (who could've forseen eBay?), but because I wish I still had them to play with, dammit.

2003-04-19 12:31:08 PM
i hope this works
2003-04-19 12:31:55 PM
This is not the greatest cassette in the world. This is just a tribute.
2003-04-19 12:32:26 PM
guess not
2003-04-19 12:35:50 PM

--mmm, i want thundercats... :) and if anybody has SwatKats episodes, i want those too :)
2003-04-19 12:42:13 PM
Junin: Kazaa is good to try, though it's a bit like fishing.
2003-04-19 01:04:33 PM
Big time Transformers fan from the past. Can't get into the new episodes though. I don't think it's because I've matured either. I just can't stand the japanimation style now adays. I really, really don't like that style at all. The big eyes, little nose...just don't get it.

Speaking of old time cartoons: The one where the car's gull wings turned into wings, and the motorcyle turned into a helicopter, was that m.a.s.k or something like it? i guess in the time it took me to write this i could have checked it out on imdb but im just too lazy
2003-04-19 01:14:22 PM
Wheres the Constructicons?!
2003-04-19 01:22:34 PM
Man, I am kicking myself. I remember taking a whole bunch of Transformers out into my backyard and blowing them apart with my pellet rifle, after I had "outgrown" them. Why didn't I put them in a box and forget about them?

2003-04-19 01:22:57 PM
Canook: M.A.S.K. is correct
2003-04-19 02:02:50 PM
It'd be a bargain at a dick enlargement center, but with a Laserbeak figure it just seems indulgent.

...dick enlargement center?
2003-04-19 02:03:53 PM
I owned the original Soundwave, and his three cassettes. But the others in the article I had never even heard of until I read this. Strange.

Yes, M.A.S.K was badass. I spent the better part of a week going thru X-E's archives looking for M.A.S.K and voltron with the 27 parts articles. I finally found both in the same one, if my brain isn't fried.
2003-04-19 02:15:58 PM
Armada isn't that bad. They even killed a character last episode, though if the rumors behind an upcoming figure being an upgraded version of him, I guess he'll come back somehow.

But we are FINALLY getting a UNICRON figure from this toyline, so it's all good.
2003-04-19 02:22:08 PM
About the only good thing we're gonna be getting out of the Armada is a Unicron figure. It's not the same exact one from the movie, and it's for some Unicorn storyline the show is going to be going into, but still, it's an honest to God 16 inch tall Unicron figure that lights up. Yay.

And I still have Slugfest and Overkill amazingly, even if their paint is scraped off a good amount, and Slugfest's lasers are missing. Oh wel.
2003-04-19 02:24:10 PM
Necro-- I used to do that with my Star Wars figures with my friends in his basement. If I knew then what I know now...

Aw, hell. I'd still put bb's in C3-P0's noggin. Obi-Wan would be spared, though.

In ze name of the Pax Zvbertronia and ze Predacon Alliance... you are under arrezt.

(Loved the scene in that episode when Ravage turned into a cassette again - they were gonna play the original theme song there, but couldnt get the rights.)
2003-04-19 09:30:03 PM
