Jackass rich farks with more money than brains.

The Gumball Rally should be good for a few really funny submissions as the racers head across the country. I wonder if any of them will make it - maybe by driving 65 the whole way...

Their official website implies that you ought to comply with the laws, and that they cooperate with law enforcement. They also mention that you might get stopped by a cop who wants to take pictures with you instead of arresting you.

It's interesting to me that they don't say anything about the number of people injured (killed?) while driving two or three times the speed limit. Or does being rich and stupid also somehow make you incredibly lucky? (Think: OJ)

Fifty-five of his closest friends poured into fast cars and supple driving shoes . . .,

Wow, fifty five fast cars, and fifty five pairs of supple driving shoes. That spells "party" in any language.

On the subway today, a man came up to me to start a conversation. He made small talk, a lonely man talking about the weather and other things. I tried to be pleasant and accommodating, but my head hurt from his banality. I almost didn't notice it had happened, but I suddenly threw up all over him. He was not pleased, and I couldn't stop laughing.

Sven_Burger: Se7en (no Googling for me; watched it a month back)

Last year's gumball adventure began in New York and ended at the Playboy Mansion in Beverly Hills. The year before, gumballers raced from London to Moscow and back.

I bet the run from London to Moscow was sweet (okay, get in your English Channel jokes/implausibilities now). I would think the European cops would be a lot more forgiving than Americans, except maybe in the U.K. I've never really seen helicopter chases on T.V. shows from anywhere on the mainland, and I bet once they got out to eastern Europe they just outran the cops.

Just as a heads-up from the main page, Bam Margera, Ryan Dunn, Tony Hawk, Bucky Lasek, and others are participating in this year's race. I guess this was the one that Johnny Knoxville did when they went to Russia.

I can't believe someone was actually arrested in Tennessee!!! That state lets drunk drivers off left and right - One case... TRY 4 DUIs in less than a year - No jail time, just a gentle pat on the wrist. He probably wouldn't have gotten arrested if he was drunk in Tennessee. Worthless state should be removed from the damn map!

I don't care what any of you say.

i'd... hit it?
2003-04-18 09:15:57 PM
Five years old? I remember the movie Gumball Rally in 1978.
And as for someone arrested in Tennessee, Gracie, why are you so shocked? There's chronic DUI drivers in every state. Hey, at least the THP didn't shoot any of the Rally driver's dogs, did they?
2003-04-18 09:17:00 PM
Now that sounds like fun! Fast cars, naked women and lots of parties...
2003-04-18 09:17:15 PM
Oh man, what I'd give to be driving down the highway with my grandparents as 50 Ferraris go flying by at 190 mph.
2003-04-18 09:18:05 PM
Sure, sounds like a blast--at least until one of these morons slams into some poor driver at 150 miles an hour and kills someone's child, father, mother, etc.

But hey, sounds like a great idea, guys, go right ahead and risk the lives of everyone who is unfortunate to be sharing the road with you.

Rich idiots.

my sister in law is a nurse in indianapolis. She said someone from jackass was in her hospital and that he was paralyzed and had brain damage. Anyone hear about this?
2003-04-18 09:21:18 PM
Honestly if I was wealthy. I'd be doing the same stupid shiat. Hell, I'm already a persistant violator according to the NYS DMV. I also have to ride the bus now.

anyone know if there are any geeks in this thing that have a blog or whatnot? possibly doing updates from the road? it would be sweet to follow their progress online...
2003-04-18 09:24:56 PM
Yeah, and I could trip walking down the sidewalk and crush some kid in a stroller... blah blah blah

This is what I want to do when I'm rich too, Warcupine. Hell yes! If you're a bad driver, you're going to kill someone or be dragged kicking and screaming out of your SUV and be killed by someone like me eventually, so why not have it be behind the wheel of a fine automobile.

My favorite part of the story: "By midday Thursday, bleary-eyed gumballers nursing Bloody Marys..."

Wake and bake, or drink.

You gotta understand - the interstate through Tenn is a long, straight, mostly flat wide open space. If you want to, and can figure out where the troopers sit, you can freakin FLY. Take it from a native, whose father in law was a moonshiner.
2003-04-18 09:36:14 PM
I hate Tennessee's DUI laws and I hate the Tennessee Lawyers and Especially the Shelby County Sheriffs for being such disgusting asshats!!! If you want to speed, drive drunk, run people off the road - go to Tennessee!!! I know it may be out of your way, but apparently it's worth it. Sleezy son's a biatches down there. Sorry, I need to go breathe into a bag.
2003-04-18 09:36:20 PM
How do they figure that the 'Gumball Rally' was inspired by the 1984 motion picture 'The Cannonball Run' when the motion picture 'The Gumball Rally' was released 8 years prior, in 1976?
2003-04-18 09:36:58 PM
They do view the tickets as trophies, maybe they pull over willingly?
2003-04-18 09:37:46 PM
2003-04-18 09:38:49 PM
Well, Ggracie, I once again state that I didn't know that particular problem was specific to Tennessee. Funny, because every freakin DUI that I know of went to jail. Mostly pals, but hey - lived there a long time and never saw anyone get off. New Jersey, however, up here we just took a guy off the street with 57 arrests. Took the NJST that long to figure it out. But of course, I never argue with generalizationists.
2003-04-18 09:40:27 PM
My mistake, Cannonball Run II was released in 1984. Cannonball Run in 1981. Either way, it's stupid to claim that the Gumball Rally was inspired by Cannonball Run.
2003-04-18 09:41:30 PM
Of course, how could we make that mistake, Gumball Rally is such a well-known movie and all..
2003-04-18 09:43:10 PM
They're going to be driving through Phoenix tomorrow.. I think I'm gonna camp out along the freeway and watch for them. I have a few videos on my computer from last year's rally. A guy in an BMW M3 outrunning the cops... mmm...
