Now thats Change!

2010-02-16 04:55:28 PM
If the new bill has single payer I'm all for it.

2010-02-16 04:58:38 PM
Difficulty: Must include single-payer system.

2010-02-16 04:58:46 PM
I would also enjoy a single payer option. Probably wouldn't use it myself, but I'd like to see it out there.

2010-02-16 05:01:33 PM
Can you just lump mine in with my Geico payment?

2010-02-16 05:01:53 PM
Boehner will still cry about it.

2010-02-16 05:01:59 PM
A large majority of the public (who can understand what it means) want to see a single payer system or option in the bill. Maybe someone will listen this time.

Sure, it's not like there's not an existing bill that already has bipartisan support (pops) collecting dust in committee or anything.

and yet every single day you manage to summon up the strength to shiat in your own mouth and start talking.

bravo.

I'll bet you he gives them 72 hours.
and they'll still balk.

It is not that I don't want the current system fixed...or that I am a little nervous about more government involvement in the healthcare system, or even that I am somewhat concerned about getting the bill for half the third-world's health expenses....

The problem is that I just don't trust Congress (Democrats, Republicans, whoever) to come up with a way to do it that is in anyway sensible, and doesn't make a bigger clusterfark out of the current mess.

2010-02-16 05:41:32 PM
from what i've read, it's not a new bill, it's just the compromise between the two that they had already worked out.

2010-02-16 05:55:48 PM
If 'new bill' is language for 'bill that isn't an insurance industry handout and does what the President actually wants' then this is a good thing. If they are going to do a real new bill, then it should be written by the White House, submitted by suitably liberal members of the House and Senate, co-sponsored by everyone possible and rammed through. If the GOP filibusters again, make them stand up and read bullshiat. Then cover the airwaves with images of the GOP preventing a straight up and down vote, with notes of how many Americans die every day without insurance.

You do know more Americans Die each day with insurance than without. Now lets actually find out how many died because of lack of insurance and how many died because insurance farked things up before we go all moonbatty.

Do you really think more people die each day from surgery mistakes than people dying because they can't afford to go to the doctor?

For fark's sake, just pass the Senate bill and if there are problems, fix them later. I don't want to be waiting in suspense to see if they're ever going to require insurance companies to cover pre-existing conditions.

surgery mistakes, denial of claims, depression from Insurance bills, denial of treatments by insurance companies.....

Do you have any valid stats to back up your claim that giving everyone insurance will keep everyone alive?

This bill is about insurance reform on all levels - not just who can afford it.

So far from what I can tell

The death rate in America is approx 2,540,000 a year

The death rate for those without HC insurance is quoted at 45,000.

Actually it looks like a massive influx of $ into the insurance industry scam.

Make Medicare availble to everyone and move on.

Just STFU and do it.

Simple;
The public gets access to same health insurance that the public buys for Congress.
Ban every insurance and pharma lobbyist until legislation is passed.

What problem?

While I fully understand the vast implications healthcare reform has for both the country's and my future. I find this never ending cascade of lies and bickering so disillusioning that my response to this trite offering is a profound:

7of7: If the new bill has single payer I'm all for it.

Like I said in a post last week: Do it right, or don't do it at all.

None of this "some people get gov't insurance" or "marketplaces for coverage" or any of that crap. Socialize the entire damn thing or do nothing.

Half measures are going to produce something costly and ineffective. Going all the way with the concept will produce something costly and partially effective. There is no need to spend us into the ground needlessly and so if we're going to spend it, spend it right!

With single payer, we'll at least get something working until the government robs the program blind like social security or can't meet the medical needs of an aging/growing population like with medicare. At that point we revisit the issue and figure out what changes need to be made in order to continue covering everyone.

That, or nothing. If I'm going to pay for it, I want to pay for something that's worth a shiat -- even for only 20, 30 years.

Give us the House bill MINUS the "you must join" part and I am in.

mediablitz: Give us the House bill MINUS the "you must join" part and I am in.

I'd accept that. The mandatory part should only exist if a free/subsidized form, in a public option or single payer, exists.

Reminder: If it's good for insurance companies, it's probably not so good for people.

I still think they should trash the bill and make a new one, one page long. Strike the words 'over 55' from Medicare. Ta-da!

Everyone has to be in for it to work. Otherwise the rational thing to do is to not buy insurance until you're sick, and then only sick people will have insurance and it will be extraordinarily expensive which sort of defeats the purpose.

But you need a public option too, to guard against the threat of oligopolists rigging the system in insurance markets. In most places there are only a few insurance providers.

The moment I began hearing talk about dropping the mandate is when I knew health care reform was in trouble. You can't pass it without a mandate and expect anything but complete failure. Restricting underwriting practices that harshly without a mandate that covers at least a good portion of the population will never work.

I'm talking about the "if you don't pay, we (insert whatever the latest proposal is here)" amendment.

Here's what they should do. Re-title the health care bill. Then name it something cool that you can't vote against like "The capitalist influenced providing life saving medical care for all Americans Act"

I mean, its not like anyone read the last bill and its not like theyre gonna read the new one. So what is actually in it is irrelevant.

An-Unnecessarily-Long-Name: Actually it looks like a massive influx of $ into the insurance industry scam.

That's why it needs to be rewritten.

I'm sure the process will go much better the second time. I can't imagine the GOP would have the gall to obstruct, delay, posture and then bail on the bill a second time. I can see no fault in this cunning plan.

GaryPDX: Splicing together two half turds is still a turd.

Gary knows, he read the last health care bill. He also read the next one and has already decided he hates it.

Only if it's done in the 'sunshine' by being televised on C-Span, etc.

No more back room deals and insurance company stroking... make everyone know that everything they say will be seen and heard by the american people.

Personally, I would like to see all Insurance companies forced into being Not-For-Profit and get their anti-trust status removed and have caps set on overhead. (just like just about every other government contract system.. cost + fixed fee).

And if that doesn't work, move onto a single payer system and let them go screw themselves.
