In fact, a source said Monday, it was an inside joke cooked up by game-presentation staff and carried out by paid actors who are, in real life, engaged.

The 'actors' weren't very good actors...

I can't see what in the world the appeal of faking a wedding proposal which fails at a game would be. Can't watch the video, but I imagine the general feeling in the crowd after that would be embarrassment, awkwardness and a general bummed-out feeling. Where's the benefit in that for anyone - the fans, the team (through promotion), anyone? How could that possibly be a good thing? Why would you fake that?

Why are the so many worthless attention whores nowadays?

All rebuffed marriage proposals at sporting events should be immediately met with the always amusing "asshole...asshole...asshole" chant.

destitute college kid: Why would you fake that?

It's a case of believing what people say. They always say "wouldn't it be funny if she said 'no?'" and "I would laugh so hard if she shot him down."

Then it happens and people start thinking "oh, wait, I'm kind of a piece of sh*t for wanting that to happen."

BDR459: Why are the so many worthless attention whores nowadays?

I think, due to scale, Hollywood has gotten bigger. So, "actors", getting paid to act, is why.

Not really. If she says "no," it's his fault for putting her on the spot before they had a good conversation about their future plans.

With proper planning, having that conversation before "popping the question" doesn't diminish the surprise or the romantic nature of getting down on one knee and presenting the ring. It does, however, go a long way toward preventing serious embarassment.

I usually start the local Bruins games off with a rousing game of "Guess who in the chorus is pregnant", so I have no idea what you're talking about.

wage0048: Not really. If she says "no," it's his fault for putting her on the spot before they had a good conversation about their future plans.

The point I'm making is that people always SAY things they don't mean. Like look at all the Winter Olympics threads. Everyone's demanding that they get rid of puff pieces and everyone always says "it's only the boring sports that get coverage."

Well, guess what, if you don't like what they're showing, you're probably interested in a fringe sport that nearly no one on earth is interested in. Just because you're a loser doesn't mean you get to determine what everyone else should be interested in. In fact, you probably wouldn't even watch anyway, and then they'd have NO viewers.

How is this news? They've been doing this at NBA games for years...no, DECADES now.

These half time, 7th inning stretch..etc proposals that go wrong are ALWAYS FAKE. Who keeps pitching this stupid ass stunt to teams?

2010-02-16 05:35:41 PM
I don't get why they say 'no' as the stunt... About 10-years ago I was at a Chiefs game when a guy proposed and she said 'yes', everybody around them bought beers for them for the rest of the game...

2010-02-16 05:38:20 PM
Seen this stunt twice at Air Canada Centre. Same dumbass both times.

The fact that we are talking about it, its been on multiple news programs and I'm sure the youtube clip has a few hits would indicate that this was a successful stunt.

Stupid and not creative, but successful.

Hoboclown: What about that seemed fake? Is there something obvious I'm missing, or was it just the bunch of people who shout "FAKE" at everything finally being right about it?

I think it was the real lame acting. And the fact this WAS done in the NBA last year. I hate people that yell FAKE at everything, but even I called this fake as soon as I viewed it.

My girlfriend always screams FAKE when we're in the bedroom. It's like she's psyching herself up or something.

/sigh
//won't someone love the stump?
