I bet the chicks were hot too.

What do they mean that the arrests were "mostly for indecent exposure." Could the writer of the article not get all his facts right or something???

/Ann Arbor is a whore!!!

Ann Arbor, Michigan-AP -- Streaking is just not the wild and crazy fun it used to be.

Only five people were arrested for running naked in the University of Michigan's annual "Naked Mile" just after midnight. That was everybody who ran.The event used to draw hundreds of runners and thousand of gawkers, but this year's run was a rather subdued affair. The arrests by university police were mostly for indecent exposure.

Things I don't like about this article:

1. Bad punctuation.
2. "That was everybody who ran"
3. It didn't explain why thousands did not run and gawk this year.
4. The above is the whole article.
2003-04-17 10:12:51 PM
Jabber those that provided a decent exposure were arrested for something else.

i wondered about that wording also.

You ever tried running naked? Your penis just gets in the way. And with today's average penis size on the rize, the attraction of running naked is probably going to go down.
2003-04-17 10:13:49 PM
nudity should be encouraged.

Sad. A interesting, if... odd... tradition, ruined by prudishness. Prudishness, in Ann Arbor of all places!

They must've forgotten the vaseline. Woulda slipped away easy.

Yeah, I know! First it slaps against your knee and then it slaps against your solar plexus. :D

That can be painful.

Their school publicly condemmed the event and threatened to expel anyone and everyone who participated. That would be reason enough for me not to want to participate.
2003-04-17 10:21:03 PM
Well, it would be nice if they explained Why they stopped doing this...
2003-04-17 10:22:10 PM
Just another example of how the fun is being methodically sucked out of life.
2003-04-17 10:23:40 PM
Skywalker1122 with any serious running you get massive shrinkage though, no matter how hot it is.

This is the year I finally do the Bare Buns Fun Run (5k clothing optional). While I'm still young and (somewhat) fit.

I live in Ann Arbor, and this used to be a gigantic event, A friend of mine even ran in it one year, wierd how it's just died over the last year or two.

Perhaps the spring in Michigan has been as cold as it has been in New England. There's not much to show off at 36F.
2003-04-17 10:28:30 PM
Were any of the spectators arrested for contributory indecent exposure?
2003-04-17 10:29:46 PM
I live in Detroit and went to the naked mile a couple of times a few years ago. It was mostly a bunch of wang flapping around and chicks you didnt really want to see naked, but there were some cute girls doing it.

One of the times I went down there, two drunk naked chicks started making out in the water fountain. Heh...
2003-04-17 10:30:09 PM
This alarming decline in the rate at which attractive young coeds run naked through the streets of Ann Arbor is downright un-American. This is a tradition that must be upheld.

I demand that Congress commission an immediate and thorough investigation! (To be headed by me, of course.)

2003-04-17 10:31:06 PM
Yeah, well the Naked Party around the corner was pretty biatchin.
Not to mention, as a student at UofM, I have never heard anything but praise for this great tradition. The only people who really get pissed off about it are the administrators and the shop owners who get balls on their windows.
2003-04-17 10:32:04 PM
Makes me sad that the year I was in AA (last year) was the year (or thereabouts) they really cracked down on it.

Still, it's a great town.
2003-04-17 10:33:37 PM
I drove down the street (I go to U-M) right before it happened. Lining the back of the crowd were cops, cops, and cops. They know about it, it's illegal, they know where and when it will be, and they see everyone that's doing it. It's just running right into their arms. It's not a lack of interest, it's a lack of wanting to be arrested.

Add that to the hundreds and hundreds people with cameras, and the advent of the internet, and the widespread circulation of amateur porn, and it's just not worth it. The people would rather be photographed naked when they're drunl at frat parties.

I don't think either article pointed out that about 10,000 people attended the event last night anyway.
2003-04-17 10:34:16 PM
"With the large crowds and the heavy emphasis on taking pictures for the Internet, the Naked Mile is no longer something the team wishes to be associated with," said former men's lacrosse team president Greg Walker in a written statement released that year. "It used to be a fun outing, but for the past two years, it has become increasingly uncomfortable and unsafe. We don't want our team to be linked with the circus the event has become."

"It's basically become an exploitative event," said senior Mike Panetta, adding that he believes the fear of finding themselves naked on the Internet deterred many students from participating. "I don't want to be looking on the Internet and find some picture of me in my underwear on some trashy website."

That explains it. Same phenomenon that is killing nude sunbathing in those German parks.

Sifl but if he didn't surf gay porn sites, he wouldn't ever have the danger of seeing himself in his underwear.

that's one ugly paddywagon scene.
2003-04-17 10:40:48 PM
Ewwwwwwwwww. Dangling nads while running.
2003-04-17 10:41:38 PM
well damn, I got a article posted, a man arrested for saving his dog from a fire, it was on for 6-7 posts, then got. Damn.
2003-04-17 10:43:44 PM
Shouldn't be getting naked in public if having people see you naked bothers you.
2003-04-17 10:44:48 PM
What happened to that dog link anyway? here's the story anyway, since I thought it was pretty funny / stupid.
2003-04-17 10:50:33 PM
from the "hands off" link:
...students who do disrobe may be arrested for disorderly conduct and indecent exposure, which is punishable by up to one year in prison and a $500 fine. According to the Michigan Sex Offender Pubic Registry Act, those who have been convicted of indecent exposure three times must register as a sex offender.

hmmm.. perversion of justice
2003-04-17 10:57:18 PM
It's mainly cause the people that were naked, you wouldn't want to see naked to begin with! Duh!
2003-04-17 10:57:21 PM
what haven't perverts and cops spoiled for the rest of us?
2003-04-17 10:57:46 PM
"You ever tried running naked? Your penis just gets in the way."

No kidding. My penis always winds up slapping my face.

2003-04-17 10:59:56 PM
I promise not to be naked in public at all during my upcoming road trip!
2003-04-17 11:00:31 PM
that sucks skin... i have sympathy for you
2003-04-17 11:02:29 PM
Well hell, even I can't figure out why I'm going to take a road trip to that poor guys house...

Ain't that always the way it is. The good looking women (or men, for those of you into that type of thing) are always the ones that ain't be gettin' naked, but the fat chicks, they always be takin' off more clothes than should be legally allowed. The people that are most likely to get naked are usually the ones who should not even be allowed to bathe, or shower, naked.

glad to see bush is returning us to our Puritan roots

Dude, that was my penis slapping your face, sorry.

Theflyingdutchman my luck with nudist women has been pretty good. Of course, these are all just girls in the woods having fun (not public). Hiking, skiing, that sort of thing.
2003-04-17 11:07:19 PM
Of course, there was that little incident with the nordic team where the girls decided to film themselve skiing naked to top the alpine skiiers videos. They tucked pretty well though, so the alpine guys just got to see their asses.
