As Chicken Little as this comes off at first blush, I'd be lying if I didn't confess that much of what this guy is ranting about isn't both A) totally plausible, and B) exactly the kind of crap I've been worrying about for years, given China's population, expanding wealth, and social views.

If China ever decided they wanted to explode all at once, and start knocking shiat over on a global scale? There really ain't a hell of a lot anyone would be able to do or say about it. Especially us.

I don't know. There's a whole lot of good ol' boys that have .30-.30s out there and are pretty good shots from huntin' deer. And there's a whole lot of people who would never consider picking up a gun but would if their way of life was threatened. I think we'd give them a run for their money.

Was my thought as well. There are a whole lot of people in the US with guns. Many of them wouldn't mind using them on invaders, either. Hell, I know more than a couple people who have guns and ammo buried in various places.

But really, it's the nuclear thing. We could probably glass the entire Asian continent the minute Chinese subs show up on the coast.

The Chinese won't invade us with tanks and helicopters. They'll invade us with IOUs. They'll make out better in the long run if continue to subjugate us economically rather than militarily.

2010-02-12 07:33:11 PM
In his speeches going back to 2004 and 2005, General Chi, Minister of National Defense of China between 1993 and 2003 and then a top military official (he is 80 years old), described how China would attack the United States first, for the victory over the United States would, in his opinion, mean the victory over the rest of the world as well.

Yea, oookay. All they have to do is get on the beach first. As a wise Japanese Commander once said on the subject of invading America, "You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass." - Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto (Japanese Navy).

If any foreign military gets so close as Hawaii. Their whole country goes boom. Literally turned to ash and glass in less than a minute.

Nobody is invading us.

Pretty sure the OP wasn't talking about China attacking the US, just China throwing their weight around in the rest of the world.

And he's right.

Fighting in two undeveloped shiatholes (Afganistan & Iraq) has pushed our military to the limits. We don't have the resources to go toe to toe with China should they decided to start muscling around countries in Africa or in the rest of Asia.

China owns a huge chunk of our debt, almost anything electronic is now made there, and our armed forces are worn out. That doesn't give us a lot of leverage.

I think the US and most of the western would could do without China's products if they REALLY had to. China, on the other hand, is still largely a poor rural country that has no domestic market capable of purchasing the goods they produce. They absolutely need the US and others to keep their economy running, and the high economic growth rate is pretty much the only thing keeping a lot of their population tolerating the authoritarian single party leadership.

I'm not saying they don't have a good deal of leverage and the ability to fark around in smaller ways; that's pretty much what a country with China's stature has always been able to do. I'm just saying that they aren't in a position where they can go batshiat insane and expect to come out on top.

War Is Not Far from Us and Is the Midwife of the Chinese Century

The following is a transcript of a speech believed to have been given by Mr. Chi Haotian, Minster of Defense and vice-chairman of China's Central Military Commission in 2005.

I'm very excited today, because the large-scale online survey sina.com that was done for us showed that our next generation is quite promising and our Party's cause will be carried on. In answering the question, "Will you shoot at women, children and prisoners of war," more than 80 percent of the respondents answered in the affirmative, exceeding by far our expectations

...

Our Chinese people are wiser than the Germans because, fundamentally, our race is superior to theirs. As a result, we have a longer history, more people, and larger land area.

The bottom line is, only China, not Germany, is a reliable force in resisting the Western parliament-based democratic system. Hitler's dictatorship in Germany was perhaps but a momentary mistake in history.

...

The first issue is living space. This is the biggest focus of the revitalization of the Chinese race.

Anybody who has been to Western countries knows that their living space is much better than ours.

But the term "living space" (lebensraum) is too closely related to Nazi Germany. The reason we don't want to discuss this too openly is to avoid the West's association of us with Nazi Germany, which could in turn reinforce the view that China is a threat.

...

"The relationship between China and United States is one of a life-and-death struggle." Of course, right now it is not the time to openly break up with them yet. Our reform and opening to the outside world still rely on their capital and technology, we still need America. Therefore, we must do everything we can to promote our relationship with America, learn from America in all aspects and use America as an example to reconstruct our country.

...

China's great economic expansion will inevitably come with a significant development in our military forces, creating conditions for our expansion overseas. Even since Napoleon's time, the West has been has been alert for the possible awakening of the sleeping lion that is China. Now, the sleeping lion is standing up and advancing into the world, and has become unstoppable!

...

To resolve the issue of America we must be able to transcend conventions and restrictions. In history, when a country defeated another country or occupied another country, it could not kill all the people in the conquered land, because back then you could not kill people effectively with sabers or long spears, or even with rifles or machine guns. Therefore, it was impossible to gain a stretch of land without keeping the people on that land. However, if we conquered America in this fashion, we would not be able to make many people migrate there.

Only by using special means to "clean up" America will we be able to lead the Chinese people there. This is the only choice left for us. This is not a matter of whether we are willing to do it or not. What kind of special means is there available for us to "clean up" America?

There has been rapid development of modern biological technology, and new bio weapons have been invented one after another. Of course we have not been idle; in the past years we have seized the opportunity to master weapons of this kind. We are capable of achieving our purpose of "cleaning up" America all of a sudden. When Comrade Xiaoping was still with us, the Party Central Committee had the perspicacity to make the right decision not to develop aircraft carrier groups and focus instead on developing lethal weapons that can eliminate mass populations of the enemy country.

From a humanitarian perspective, we should issue a warning to the American people and persuade them to leave America and leave the land they have lived in to the Chinese people. Or at least they should leave half of the United States to be China's colony, because America was first discovered by the Chinese. But would this work? If this strategy does not work, then there is only one choice left to us. That is, use decisive means to "clean up" America

...

The reason that the United States remains today is that it has never seen war on its mainland. Once its enemies aim at the mainland, they enemies would have already reached Washington before its congress finishes debating and authorizes the president to declare war. But for us, we don't waste time on these trivial things. Comrade Deng Xiaoping once said, "The Party's leadership is prompt in making decisions. Once a decision is made, it is immediately implemented. There's no wasting time on trivial things like in capitalist countries. This is our advantage."

...

Marxism pointed out that violence is the midwife for the birth of the new society. Therefore war is the midwife for the birth of China's century. As war approaches, I am full of hope for our next generation.

Bolded for emphasis. Do any of you really believe that the Minister of Defense for a country like China would actually give a speech like that? You have to be beyond insane to try to make favorable comparisons between your country and Nazi Germany, and threaten the US.

Think about it: China imprisoned/executed people who were responsible for getting a little lead in their products because it hurt their reputation abroad. Do you think they'd have a high ranking official actually say these things?

Also, I can't find a single reputable news source that mentions it.

Is MAD really even a valid concept nowadays as Obama is giving the Russians full access, whom are buddy-buddy with China? Russia already has, or will very soon have first-strike capability because of this. They won't be worried about surviving a dozen ICBM submarines in the pond with their dozens, if not hundreds of underground cities. The destruction of the U.S. won't mean the end of the world, just the destruction of the U.S.. Even if nuclear weapons were off the table, it would be pretty farking hard for the Chinese to march on the Americas. The only options are boat, plane, and the Bering Strait. None of those are so convenient or tough that we wouldn't be able to take care of them long before they even saw the border.

I can only assume he means the population at large, most of whom has been concerned about terrorists. There was an interesting couple of stories about how China, unconcerned about the ruthlesness of Sri Lanka's assaults on the Tamil Tigers, gave the government money and weapons (new window). And China got a new port out of it.

Outside of that, articles by loopy people are always fun. I was half expecting him to bring up the idea of all of China linking arms, and building a bridge to Hawaii.
