And the society of victims takes another bold step forward...sweating and muttering under its breath, looking furtively around for One Of Them.

This was submitted (and rejected) a few days ago in a much better writeup. I personally feel that I am rubber, and that the author is glue, and no matter what he says, it WILL bounce off of me and stick on him.

Then again, I dunno if the pansy ass momma lovin ninny who posted this could take such punishment.

Four square anyone?

This headline was extremely creepy to me. I just finished reading Palahniuk's "Lullaby" yesterday.

Good book though.

The thing is, in school if you whack another kid with a stick or a stone, odds are you will get in trouble. But if you keep harrassing him and calling him names, you will probably get away with it. And then he will skip the stick and stones and go Columbine on your ass.

2003-04-17 10:46:09 AM
okay so did anyone ever truly believe that being called names didn't hurt at all?

I think that saying but just to try and help you ignore the constant taunts
and name calling
and teasing
and and and

*takes a deep breath*

sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never...

oh fark it, it didn't work then...it won't work now

Yes, well, no one is exempt. Better to learn the tools to defend against it and build a stronger psyche earlier, then take a fall late in life when we least expect it.

When I was young I figured adults were civil because they had grown out of the bullying stage, realized it was useless. These days I know that children learn to bully from the adults they watch, but young victims don't necessarily understand it.

blah blah blah blah blah. but what do i know? :)

So does this mean parents can now go back to giving their children a good spanking when they done wrong? And principals can go back to the paddle?? And if your woman won't shut the *ck up you give her a quick backhand- OUCH - hey...

Just to give it some whimsical thought here instead of dismissing it outright without reading the actual article like all of you are doing....I kinda agree.

Harming people is harming people. Does it really make a difference whether the pain inflicted is physical or emotional? Sure, one is more easily quantifiable, measurable, and visible than the other, but does that make it more serious?

Psychological torture is the most brutal form of torture there is.....the ability to completely and totally crush a man without ever laying a finger on him. To a lesser extent, there is teasing and emotional bullying. Jockeying for coveted social positions among our peers. We call it soap opera, drama, playing mind games, whatever you will....it's still an inflictment of punishment on someone. 99% of the time physical force is rarely ever used or applied. Now, tell me: does that make it any less important?

Caution, tastless joke coming up:

What do you tell a woman with two black eyes?

Nothing, you already told her twice.

In a related issue, are there any other high school farkers alive? Besides the fact that Fark is a sausage fest, I think these forums need an infusion of young blood.

Back on-topic, in my little eighteen year-old world, words give people eating disorders. That's gotta hurt.

i always knew my mom was full of shiat when she'd tell me that.

Wow, my punctuation went to hell in just two sentences. Touche' me.

If you know what you're doing, Ishkur, you can return saucy japes from your peers via fists and kicks to the vitals. Or rather, if you don't spend all day on Fark letting your muscles atrophy. Which I don't. Honest.

Ishkur: There's no doubt that bullying and name calling can be harmful, but calling someone "doody-head" is a far cry from psychological torture.

Hey Rumsfeld, yo momma so stupid it took her 2 hours to watch 60 minutes.

Yo momma so stupid she took the Pepsi challenge and chose Jif.

Yo Momma so poor she waves around a popsicle stick and calls it air conditioning.

Yo mama's so big, when she went to the airport and said she wanted to fly they stamped Goodyear on her and sent her out to the runway.

2003-04-17 10:58:40 AM
I gotta agree with the majority here. If someone kicks me in the nuts and calls me a fag, I'd concentrate on the nuts first and formost. After that, I'd still be thinking about how much it hurt to get kicked in the nuts by the person who called me a fag.

Let's face it. If one truly believes in the axiom, one has enough self-confidence that it's a truism. Those that can't handle a little teasing clearly aren't cut out for survival and shouldn't be allowed to breed.

2003-04-17 11:03:06 AM
shiatfark. I've been counseling for over 5 years and telling people that the words cant hurt them.

If someone calls you really bad stuff in another language, does it affect you? Not a bit. It's not the words that are hurting, but the reception of those words. change how you react to the words and you change the entire victim/bully dynamic.

This is almost the cornerstone of Phil McGraw's stuff as well. change how you react to life and your life will change.

however, it would be a sumbiatch to get that across to a highschool kid getting called out by a bully. I was the victim back then, scrawny and meek and often black and blue. I feel bad for them.
