In response to Marvel's explanation and apology, Tea Party Nation founder Judson Phillips told Yahoo! News that it "sounds less like a genuine 'we're sorry' than it does a 'we're sorry we got caught' statement."

Because they're not sorry. Marvel thanks you for the publicity bump on this issue. Thank you for playing and please never make the case that Captain America agrees with you.

2010-02-12 11:12:38 AM
Sorry they got caught? They published that shiat and sent it out internationally. They aren't sorry they got caught, they're sorry you people are such sensitive ladies.

According to the teabaggers, blacks dont pay taxes, they collect welfare.

more of a follow up. I think in the last thread, Marvel hadn't issued a statement about it.

Also what were these Tea Partyers doing sitting at home reading kiddie books instead goin out and being bootstrapy?

Not only is this a repeat, the apology has been greenlit too

Comic Books are a challenging read for most teabaggers. Plus they don't hold up well to the drool and sticky fingers.

Yeah. For this and a few other reasons:

1) Whining that comics lean left as they incorporated Obama after the election

2) Whining about the protrayal of President George W. Bush

3) Whining about Captain America turning his back on conservatives

/I need to get on top of researching why all of the others were added.

I wonder which of the Teabaggers first sat down to read his or her latest Capt. America comic and noticed their political movement had made it to the big time.

I've had people who support them tell me "Well maybe you should go to a rally and see what they're about instead of believing what the media tells you".

I let them know that I've gone to one and they were mostly racists and conspiracy theorists and largely ignorant of everything.

2010-02-12 12:27:42 PM
The comic book is not even THAT offensive to teabaggers.
They are just used as an example of people who oppose the government. They are not necessarily lumped together with the super villains -- they are shown as a contrast to the super villains.

Marvel didn't and shouldn't apologize.
They have rights just like the teabaggers have rights.
And Captain America fights to defend ALL of our rights.
With his mighty shield.
All those who oppose his shield must yield.
For the Red and The White and The Blue will come through
When Captain America Throws his MIGHTY SHIELD!!!!

If teabaggers had a comic.

2010-02-12 01:04:30 PM
From what I read about this, it seems like the comic addressed a very valid problem that the Tea Party has: too many doors on the tent. In the comic, Cap'n and Falcon were trying to flush a violent organization that had latched on to the Tea Party folks.

In reality, the Tea Party has suffered mightily because of its allowance of any group with a conservative-seeming bent into their protests. That inclusion, thanks to the internet and publicity, acts as a tacit endorsement of all the groups that decide to latch on. Pro-life, gun nuts, fundies, subtle supremacists (more subtle than the KKK or Neo Nazis, anyhow) all get to put their stamp on the Tea Party's image.

The Tea Partiers want the government to rein in spending, expansion, and debt. These all seem like reasonable demands, even if you disagree with them. However, when you throw in all that other, unrelated politics into the mix it just gets messy, unfocused, and opens them up to mocking. Cap'n was going to do them a favor by taking out an extremist group from their ranks. How ungrateful a party.

The Democratic Party has had this problem for years with fringe groups that dilute the practical message. It takes a while to establish boundaries.

2010-02-12 01:06:04 PM
Oh boo farking hoo. All politics aside, I really detest the sort of person who thinks they have some ownership or say in a fictional character just because they claim to have been fans of it as a kid.

Talk about an unearned sense of entitlement.

The teabaggers are the whiny douchebags of the new decade.

Why should Marvel apologize? What, are they afraid they will lose a small portion of their readers?

How many teabaggers are active comic readers? We all know they can't read.

If I were Marvel, I would tell them to piss off and make them even worse. You would get more readers that way. Maybe even have Cap throw a shield at the teabagger leader.

I should call my buddy Sean, he qualifies: educated, military vet, NRA and DU member, republican, and black. I'm sure he'd love to be on Fox News, and he lives in DC anyhow. However I can also easily hear him saying: "Remember when right-wingers used to mock left-wingers for being "politically correct" and taking offense at relatively benign things? Remember that?

That could de-rail the story a bit.

Marvel took it easy on the teabaggers.

The signs and rhetoric coming from real teabaggers is far more inflammatory and racist. Marvel watered down the insanity plenty.

No surprise that angry, stupid mob reacts in typical stupid, angry mob fashion.

I assume next week Cap and Falcon will be investigating and battling voter intimidation by the New Black Panther Party, right? Eric Holder has no interest in doing it. Cap might not fit in, but Falcon will.
