ftfa: charged with felony attempted assault and misdemeanor criminal possession of a weapon.

Did they charge everyone in the class with possession of a weapon?

I support the No. 2 Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

"The boy lashed out with a sharp pencil and inflicted a scratch treated by the school nurse... The 11-year-old, whose name wasn't released, was suspended from school and charged with felony attempted assault and misdemeanor criminal possession of a weapon."

I remember when I was about a week into junior high and some kid in my math class wouldn't stop bothering me, I gave him a mean left hook that sent him out of his chair and sprawling on the ground.

Back then I got a stern talking to in the principal's office and a note to my parents.
Today, I'd be looking at 5 years in juvie, unless they decided to try me as an adult.

In the matter of a single generation we have decided to criminalize being young, hormonal and stupid.

The kid got a scratch that required a mere bandaid FFS.

I have a little black dot on the side of my right wrist; it's the end of a pencil lead that was thrust into my arm in the second grade with great violence and malice.

Let me just say that if a girl takes you into the wooded gully during recess to play a game of "I'll show you mine if you show me yours" you'd damn well better show her yours when it's your turn.

biatches get all stabby if you don't show them your wiener.

Well, if you stab them first, then you can look all you want and not have to show them anything.

When I was in 7th grade this kid stabbed another kid with a compass. The kid who was stabbed got ran over by a train a few years later. I don't know what happened to the stabber. They weren't very popular.

"ftfa: charged with felony attempted assault and misdemeanor criminal possession of a weapon."

Somebody tell me they're kidding, right? Gonna saddle a kid with a felony for this? At this rate, we'll all be felons within 10 years.

I would have been buried under the jail when I was a kid. We used to do this kind of stuff on purpose (shooting paper clips with rubberbands, paperplanes with needle nosed tips, sticking one another with pencils, etc).

/beam me up away from this insanity

Wow. I am -so- glad that I'm not in the younger educational system now. Good gravy. Assault charges for a scratch?

I wonder what they would've thought of someone tossing a ceramic pot at a teacher (with plant, mind you). Or throwing a chessboard at a fellow student. And the worst punishment I had was suspension, where I learned later that my mother used to dread getting phone calls from the school to come get me again.

Good times!

/Would probably have a long criminal record in today's school environment
//Feel bad for both kids

Interestingly enough, both the word 'pencil' and the word 'penis' share the same Latin root word, penicillus, meaning 'something to stab girls with'.

I've been stabbed with a pencil and sliced by a boy running with scissors.

Jailtime? No.

LOL I had a dot on a finger for many years, but it did eventually fade. I still have a faded mark on a toe from stepping on a pencil years back.

whidbey: Weird. I think I got stabbed with a pencil by some asshole back in school a couple of times...

I got stabbed in the back of the hand in first grade and still have a faint black dot there. I think maybe the teacher told him not to do that again.

The worst part was when my mom tried to dig the lead out with a needle. Ugh.

misdemeanor criminal possession of a weapon

It was a freakin' pencil! I bet every kid in math class had one. What are they supposed to do, finger-paint their arithmetic?

The assault charge is arguable, but possession of a weapon? That's just retarded. Er, I mean, uh, silly.

You know what? I have some scary kids in my school. How many times do you give them in-school suspension? Kid might be a really violent guy. Just sayin'.

2010-02-10 05:54:34 PM
what ever happened to letting kids deal with their own problems? Some kid tries to stab you with a pencil, you beat the crap out of him.

I'm 27 and we did all kinds of harmless crap in gradescool that would put you behind bars today. The next generation that coming up thru grade school right now are really going to screw this country up when the realize the world is an ironic, hilarious, and cruel place.

2010-02-10 05:54:40 PM
I am not very good at math myself and I know I have gotten all stabby while working on some problems. I wish I understood math better, but I just don't get it. I have struggled through every math class I have had even with outside tutoring from a PhD in mathematics from Duke( yes I know Duke sucks). I can write a pretty decent paper though. I guess it's the whole right brain left brain thing.

Well, there's a troublesome precedent there. According to "Zero Tolerance policies", anything which COULD be a weapon, IS a weapon. Which is why you can't have a screwdriver, even if you need to put in some screws. Now once you establish that a pencil CAN be a weapon, it IS a weapon- for anyone carrying it.

And the beauty is that the idiotic nature of "Zero Tolerance" is there is no tolerance. There are no exceptions. If you judged an accusation based on merits and showed tolerance of reasonable situations, it wouldn't be ZT anymore.

I have a good sized dot of pencil lead near my right knee cap because some arse on the bus tripped me and I landed on a pencil tip. That was in 1991 and over time it has oxidized...or something. Either way the doctor says that it is fine.

/ Yes,the pencil went underneath the top layer of skin on my knee.

I did this to a kid in high school once. Kept calling me a fag, told him to stop or I'd stab him with the pencil. He didn't stop, so I stabbed him. He them yelled "OWW! FARK!" (well, not "fark" specifically) and then he got in trouble for swearing in class. It was pretty awesome. I mean, seriously, who calls someone a bundle of sticks?

2010-02-10 05:58:30 PM
Isn't that why they started making pencils out out of graphite and not lead? Same old stabbing fun with none of the poisoning risk!

Well, he was good with a compass, so it stands to reason that he became an engineer.

I assumed that everyone had one of these. I know I do. Oh wait, I just checked and it's gone. I used to have one, for decades, but apparently after 30 years or so it goes away.

Anyways, let me just add the obligatory comment: FELONY??!??! LOLWUT???!

I too was stabbed with a pencil in grade school buy an angry kid. It left a black dot on my palm for a good 10 years. My response, stab him in the ribs with a mini swiss army knife I carried. I merely grazed the little SOB (the blade was small and did not lock) and he went crying to the teacher. She took my knife, ripped me a new one, and put my knife in her desk. I managed to sneak it right back out of her desk at the end of the day and went home. There was no further mention or follow up to this incident (whew). This was back in the 80's, it seems like the "no tolerance" policies of today are taken quite seriously.
