No where does it say he was ditching school.

I'm not a real newspaper editor, but I probably would have mentioned the face in the title and then been more specific in the body of the story as to which part of the face was hit.

That's just me though.

Poppa Boner: No where does it say he was ditching school.

He's 16... he was either skipping or is a dropout. Whichever it is, still sends the message of "goto school or get shot in the face".

Is it wrong that I thought this had something to do with a gay correction camp?

No. I thought scared straight was a religious bible camp for suspected gay kids. Until I read the article...then it was just kind of sad in a different way.

You probably have a higher chance of getting shot at school these days than out on the street.

Euclid Elementary...that's where ALL the students are scared straight.

You never saw the documentary from the 70s? About the juvies who spent time meeting with inmates at a New Jersey maximum-security prison in an attempt to get them to straighten up?

Was that from the 70s? I thought that was more recent. I remember one episode where an inmate some one of the kids hold on to his inside-out pocket or something--can't quite remember.

For some reason I didn't think of the right "scared straight" until I looked at the article.

A friend of mine has a rule: If the word "Heights" is in the title, it's a bad neighborhood.

*One exception to the rule is Friendship Heights in DC, which is bad in another way.

I don't know where to begin.

1) 16 is a little young to be a senior.
2) Senior-ditch-day isn't a holiday. It's senior ditch day. Why would a reporter care?
3) WTF does his lack of reporting on this apparently-known Holiday have to do with anything?

If you're here because you yourself are on senior ditch day, you probably ditched too many classes to begin with. Finish your lunch and go back for the afternoon.

Stiz: He's 16... he was either skipping or is a dropout. Whichever it is, still sends the message of "goto school or get shot in the face".

Not necessarily, at 16 he would likely be a junior in high school, if he had a free period at the end of the day, or if there was a shortened school day he could very easily be out of school at that time legitimately.

2010-02-10 12:49:14 PM
FTA: The shooting was reported at 1:34 p.m. on 49th Street near Trojan Avenue, said police spokesman Gary Hassen. A witness reported hearing two gunshots.

Strange, I heard that Trojan Avenue was a pretty safe place. It's a pity violence broke out. This puts a pin hole right in that myth.

Gigglesnort! True, there you shoot the little twit and just call the landscaping service to take care of it- or slip the housekeeper a quick $50 for 'extra cleanup'. Must be nice...

1) Yes, because juniors never decide to go on an undecided holiday ever.
2) It's San Diego. Try reading the UT sometime.
3) And where does it say that, might I ask?

I'm actually in school, but whatever.
