Thats actually not that bad of an idea

That would be a great way to slow grave yard over crowding.

If that became main stream, just think about how many plots you could sell out of five acres compared tho the conventional way.

Kind of neat, but I highly doubt that two people with bars the length shown would be able to create enough torque to get it in the ground.

(subby here.)

Another thing to contemplate is what kind of different preparation techniques the mortician would need to use...

Any Farkers that are "in the business" care to comment?

I'm thinking nailed to a 2x4 Jesus style?

Screw coffin page.

Coffins are usually nailed.

I know a couple where the husband used to bury people for a living for some years. I'm sure the topic has come up, think I'll text him and see if he answers.

Why? For viewings they'll still be horizontal. Then you seal them up in the coffin thing and stick them vertically into the ground. Who gives a shiat what they look like once the lid is closed?

I agree, if we are going to keep doing the archaic practice of burying whole bodies, at least make it space effective for the still living.

Don't most states require a standard depth below ground surface for a corpse? This doesn't look like it would them you deep enough.

2010-02-10 11:06:40 AM
That is twisted.

That would be a real fun funeral

Putting the fun back in funeral

That, or die in the close proximity of one or more necrophiliacs.

I just want to be cremated. Bodies decomposing creeps me out.

Yeah, I know, died and in a fire.

How about if you just bury an ordinary casket, but oriented in that "standing up" position?

I'll stick with the viking funeral. Stick me on a raft, push it off, torch it up. Done.

I'm not sure it would be accepted by Jews.

proletarian: Don't most states require a standard depth below ground surface for a corpse? This doesn't look like it would them you deep enough.

Around here you have to put the body in a sealed coffin, then place that in a concrete sarcophocas, and then bury that. I figure there will be no zombie apocolypse here as the farkers can't get out.

2010-02-10 11:14:50 AM
Or we could just cremate them and save even more money.

You sure you want to be cremated? Had a crematorium here a few years ago where the guy wasn't cremating the bodies. He would put crushed asphalt and whatnot in the urns. I think he wound up burying the bodies.

i'm thinking that soon after burial the body would "collect" at the bottom? liquids, chunks and all. Not a problem for me as I want to be cremated, but I could see how some people wouldn't like it. Having to exhume the body, would simply require a trashbag, I guess...

Unless you can get the morticians to not perform the embalming, there's no way a corpse is going to decompose any more. Around here they drain all the liquids out and replace them with preserving fluids; you'll look a lot like you did when you died 100 years from now.

Plus they require a sealed casket, have to put it in a vault that's also sealed, and then buried altogether.

/going to get cremated
//then used to fertilize a tree or two
///I won't care

Poppyale: Well, how about the fish swimming to the right of the duck?

Well, it's obviously just swimming. The duck, on the other hand, is a part of one of the coffins. I can understand the fish on the far left, as the fish has been a Christian symbol for thousands of years. But a duck?

/In the name of the Mallard, the Goose, and the Holy Platypus, quack quack.

2010-02-10 11:24:07 AM
The whole embalming idea just seems wrong to me. Bodies should be allowed to decompose naturally. In fact, I much prefer the idea of a sky funeral or being dumped out in the ocean.

The idea of being preserved and buried... just strikes me as ungodly wasteful.

you don't have to be embalmed. Funeral Homes will try to tell you you do, but it isn't true.

Buddy just texted me back and said burial requirements vary per state and most states don't really have anything specific with regards to how a body is buried but are more concerned with the where.

He says that its more of a short list of where you cannot than where you can.

That's better than what happened here in NH. The bodies were stacked like cordwood in the back yard.

What's even worse is being filled with chemicals, then sealed in steel and concrete so you don't decompose. I want to be wrapped in linen and put in one of those old-timey pine coffins so I turn back into nice wholesome dirt.

Bendal: Around here they drain all the liquids out and replace them with preserving fluids; you'll look a lot like you did when you died 100 years from now.

That's just a lie morticians tell people so they shell out for embalming. Bodies are really only preserved for a maximum of a few weeks. Unless you feel like spending tens of thousands of dollars to be done up like Lenin. He gets regular yearly maintenance to look that good.

2010-02-10 12:02:32 PM
A friend of mine & his sister came up with the idea of freezing the body solid (well below zero) with the toes pointed down, then simply firing it into the ground with an air cannon.

They figured that if you dressed the body in stripper-style velcro-latch clothing, you'd save even more because the clothes would wind up in a little pile on the ground after the internment.

Green burials have started becoming popular. There are several burial sites that are actually nature preserves, your fee to be buried there goes towards maintaining the site and you either get your ashes spread there or go the "pine box and winding sheet" route with a small marker on a tree.

/I don't need a monument to the fact I existed taking up real estate
//Cremate and dump my ashes in the wild
///take my love, take my land, take me where I cannot stand, I don't care, I'm still free, you can't take the sky from me
