(Atlanta Journal Constitution)   It's probably not the best idea to re-name the bus route through the heart of an Asian community the "yellow line". Some people take offense to that sort of thing   (ajc.com ) divider line

Petit_Merdeux: If it really runs through the heart of the Asian community, it should be called the yerrow rine.

Winner!

My step-daughter is half Filipino and half white. Her dad calls her "my little twinkie" cause she's yellow on the outside (looks asian) but completely white on the inside. ;)

Actually, that would be the onion belt.

Mad Scientist: I rode a bus on this route. The biggest hassle was at every stop light, we had to get out and run around the bus, then get back in.

Then you had to take another bus 30-minutes later...

It sounds like the Asian community in Doraville has put a chink in the armor of MARTA's reputation. One may need to squint to see it, but the reveal of these racist practices may slant the whole Asian comminuity against them.

Used to be a touch of country in the city.

Now it is a touch of Seoul (and Mexico City, Saigon, Phenom Penn, etc).

Gotta love Chambodia.

jehovahs witness protection: Fake outrage. The people who ride this bus line don't give a flying fark. "Activists" are just nutbags trying to get attention.

There was a thread some time ago, where some camera couldn't see black faces (quite like that Better Off Ted episode), and someone that sold HP printer inks recalled a conversation that went something like this...

---

Farker: so you need a new printer cartridge. Black?

Customer: you assumed I need black. Is it because I'm African-American?

Farker: what would you have said if I suggested a colored cartridge?

---

Like this, but Asians and public transport. Now if London Transport (to give an example) renames a line to the Piccadirry Rine, maybe we have a story!

I am happy that H-mart finally opened up there. I hated having to drive to Duluth to go to one. I finally got a chance to check out the new Chef Liu on Buford Highway this weekend, and damn that place makes awesome Leek Pie and Shanghai Soup Buns.

It is pretty sad if people locally aren't smart enough to navigate by where the transit goes (like using the destination name, or major street name, or even just letters/numbers), they are so dumb they have to use colors.
It is even more pathetic to complain about the colors.

Alright, let's nip that kind of talk in the bud.

Yeah, this is a slippery slope for sure.

But a veritable chink in MARTA's armour for sure.

That's just a bunch of gobbledygook.

I heard good things about Cafe 101 (which happens to be just down the hill from the station in question). China Buck's, which is next door, is my favorite take out.

If you called it the white line and ran it through my hood, should I be offended? Call it "Whitey's Bus" or "Cracker Line" if that's what does it for you. I appreciate the buses because driving in a foot of snow sucks.

Buhaha... sorry had to laugh. But no really, come on. Someone can be offended with anything anyone does. Are we all supposed to stop living too, or is it always going to be just this one thing.

Why does MARTA need to name lines? There is the north/south line, and the east/west line. Oh and a little branch on the east side for the Doraville line.

2010-02-09 09:50:36 AM
Just rename it to the #FFFF00 line.

A bit of an overreaction, I'd say.

Also, FTA:

"In her response to Yasutake, Scott said, "while it was certainly not our intent to be contemptuous in changing the name of the Doraville Line to the Yellow Line, we thoroughly understand the historical perspective that you shared with us on this matter."

"As a result," Scott continued, "this gives us added impetus to increase both our internal and external cultural diversity efforts to maximize the Asian American community's inclusion in the Authority's contracts and procurements, job recruitment, community outreach and sensitivity training."

/evasive response is evasive
//basically saying: "OK, we heard you and sent a polite reply. Now, leave it alone, 'cuz we ain't gonna change it."
